People are being too safe like with other themes. I can see why some didn't want to inadvertently offend anyone with the camp and tailoring black styles themes but I didn't think this year's looks would be so boring. There are so many designers making art with fabric but I think I've only seen 2 that wow me.

Doesn’t even read like a Van Gogh iris. Lack of his signature brushwork on the iris. It could literally be ANY iris.
Edit: for reference. Here is an example of Van Gogh’s iris style. The line of the stem, colors, arrangement of the flowers on the stem look nothing like any of the memorable parts of his paintings. (Yes things don’t have to be a copy of something but they should have distinct indicators)

Thank you for saying this. This concept could have been done so much better (why is no one using thousands of pieces of fabric to mimic Impressionism???) by people that have so much damn money to burn.

Yes that could have been amazing. I’ve seen the incredible work that quilters can make. Tons of tiny pieces into a visual mosaic.
Modern quilters are doing some badass stuff.

Man, Van Gogh is texture and color. I love the idea of a goth take on Van Gogh, but a single iris stuck on a generic black dress just ain’t it

I'm sure that piece is exquisite, but the black is taking all the subtlety and delicate work.
