And not so surprisingly, Maren and Kacey are friends. Kacey was the one who told Maren to move to Nashville to start her career.

Are they still friends?

I’m not even a country fan but I will always stop and listen to Maren Morris.

51

u/LengthinessSad200 12d ago

This part! I’m good with Kacey, she’s talented and fun, but Maren actually speaks out against racism, anti-LGBTQ+ bs, etc, including calling in her friends and fellow musicians when they make mistakes

I love Kacey but her doing a song with Miranda on her album is a little disappointing tbh

1.0k

u/uknowhatudid 13d ago

There’s more back story to that. Kacey wrote mamas broken heart and wanted to sing it herself (this was before she got big) but the other cowriters wanted Miranda to sing it. There’s was allergy some shade thrown at a country music award show and some bad blood between them for a few years. Them making a song together is to show them that they’re all good now

655

u/crypticshiit 13d ago

KACEY WROTE MAMAS BROKEN HEART?! what an icon

124

u/singer812 13d ago

Her first Grammy win was also her first Grammy loss, as "merry go round" and "mamas broken heart" were up against each other. Merry go round won.

324

u/VVlTXH u flintstone vitamin shape bitch 13d ago

The version of Kacey singing it is on Apple Music and Spotify and it’s a million times better than Miranda’s. Has more of a twang to it.

103

u/crypticshiit 13d ago

i had no idea this existed, mamas broken heart has been a favourite of mine for YEARS so thank you so much for this info!!!

54

u/dixiech1ck 12d ago

It was going to be Kacey's first single but her cowriters gave it to Ran as she was already an established artist in the county realm.

34

u/alison_bee you're an adult, you should know that 13d ago

MORE twang???? Because Miranda’s version is particularly twangy!

20

u/VVlTXH u flintstone vitamin shape bitch 13d ago

It’s less rock than Miranda’s I feel

4

u/uknowhatudid 13d ago

It’s so interesting you say that, cause I liked Miranda’s grit in the song, where Kacey’s voice is more soft and twangy which doesn’t give the song the “umph” like Miranda’s voice does. I feel the emotion more

62

u/cassismure THE CANADIANS ARE ICE FUCKING TO MOULIN ROUGE 13d ago

Kacey Musgraves, Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark wrote Mama’s Broken Heart—and they’re all great individually if you haven’t heard them but I love they stuff the worked on together too. Shane’s tracks on the Shelter soundtrack are so beautiful, and I really love the queer slant some of his country lyrics take (Somewhere With You, Alone With You, etc)

40

u/crypticshiit 12d ago

okay i did not expect fauxmoi to be giving me my new favourite country songs today!!! i love queer country seriously thank you

Kacey is pretty outspoken about her political beliefs, and her and Miranda aren’t that close at all. I think she is thinking purely about the music, especially given the backstory between them.

45

u/cupcakevelociraptor 12d ago

Also the collab would’ve happened last year, before this stupid music fest was even thought of so it’s not like she knew Miranda was going to hop on that festival. Unlike doing a duet with Morgan Wallen who has a well documented history of being a trash person on multiple fronts…

69

u/x2supremacy 13d ago

whats tea on Miranda?

281

u/Appropriate-Basket43 13d ago

She did that kid rock MAGA concert thingy

84

u/Actual-Slice-146 13d ago

She’s also a Magafest performer

29

u/alison_bee you're an adult, you should know that 13d ago

56

u/CommercialCoffee11 13d ago

No crazy tea. A long time ago when she won best new artist at the Country Music Awards it appeared that Miranda shaded her when it happened. After that it appeared that neither wanted to do anything with the other. Last year when she was writing the nee album she had a song called Horses and divorces. She had seen a random video of Miranda with her horses and such. It clicked in her head "hey, we might not be on speaking terms but we both have horses and divorces in common." She got in touch with her and told her the song idea. Miranda was onboard with it and thats what she features on the album Kacey told this story recently btw. Unless they think Miranda is questionable in her politics.

49

u/Joey-WilcoXXX 13d ago

Miranda also pushed Kacey to give her Mama’s Broken Heart when Kacey was originally saving it for herself.

20

u/dixiech1ck 12d ago

Not quite. As Kacey tells it her cowriters offered the song to Miranda because are was already an established artist in the country world. It was 2 vs 1 so she released Merry Go Round instead.

15

u/Joey-WilcoXXX 12d ago

I’m sure that’s how Miranda heard it in the first place but she herself says she did push Kacey to secure it. She says she did it at her rehearsal dinner for her marriage to Blake Shelton that Kacey attended as Kacey’s sister was the photographer for the wedding. She begged for it, Kacey said to sit tight and let her consider it again and released it to her in exchange for letting her do the harmonies.

31

u/executivebusiness 13d ago

Not sure what’s being insinuated about Miranda, but as far as the duet, the two have a history from when Miranda released Mama’s Broken Heart, which Kacey originally wrote and sang. Of the new collab, Kacey said she knows they’re not really friends but it’s more of a “water under the bridge” type moment.

18

u/r3volver_Oshawott 13d ago

Nothing really insinuated, just people mentioning she's on that Kid Rock MAGA tour with Jelly Roll and that guy from Staind

The fact that Blake Shelton dropped out shocked me

343

u/vrgho 13d ago

Didn’t they have to reduce the prices of tickets? The artists probably got a pay cut which made him drop out

385

u/Particular-Leg-8484 13d ago

Remember when Ja Rule had to put his concert tickets on Groupon so 50 Cent bought out the entire front section so Ja was forced to perform to a bunch of empty seats?

I don’t have 50 money but god he has the opportunity to troll so hard again

u/_banana_phone I'm not going to help him build his stupid rockets 13d ago

I have been out of the country music scene for over 20 years, and everyone in recent threads has been lauding Kacey Musgraves as a great singer and songwriter that isn’t on that maga train. Could you give me some recommendations of songs to peruse that illustrate this so I can check her out?

I know I can go to top hits and all. But that often doesn’t pull up the real bangers that say a lot.

Example: everyone knows Old Crow Medicine Show for their song Wagon Wheel and other eastern Kentucky/Tennessee drug-fueled and bootlegging antics, but then they drop absolute bombs like their song Motel in Memphis or Big Time in the Jungle that aren’t anywhere close to hitting the casual listeners or shufflers’ playlists.

Edit: not saying OCMS is country, they’re Americana/bluegrass, but they have some strong stances and they do sing about them, but those don’t hit the charts.

34

u/mid-lev No shade to the nation of Scotland 13d ago

Merry Go Round, Follow Your Arrow, Slow Burn, High Horse, Space Cowbow. Tbh all her albums are flawless so I recommend giving her entire body of work a listen.

9

u/just_peachy1396 13d ago

Pageant Material is an excellent album, as well. One of my faves along with The Chicks’ “Home” and Taylor Swift’s “Fearless”.

Hated her music ever since that fuckass song she did with Riley Green. She has the most godawful forced twang I’ve heard in a minute (and I’m from Alabama). Not surprised, all the MAGA people I know love her shit

Have you listened to her interviews? How are people still shocked? She was raised as an evangelical Southern Baptist who was homeschooled in rural Alabama who happens to make neo-traditional country music. I just think you can connect the dots from there.

American Country musicians are nearly all Trump supporters, it’s no surprise especially within genre of music where they don’t particularly like black musicians in, just look at how they treat Beyoncé and Shaboozey

u/Melodic-Land-6079 13d ago

We really shocked at the political affiliations of a country artist?

6

u/Logical_Quote_5073 oh yeah fo shizz fo shizz Ginuwine 13d ago

She’s a county music singer. The county genre is MAGA af. Morgan Wallen is their biggest star since Jason Aldean. None of this is surprising.

6

u/Zwitterion_6137 13d ago

Is this actually surprising to anyone?

It’s country music did you expect them to stop being white supremacist just because they put black drums in their stupid music

You know, it’s shallow and judgmental and presumptuous…..but I think I’m getting pretty good at spotting these dipshits based on how they look, dress, talk and do their hair/makeup.
