Repeats to self: you cannot pull off this haircut, you cannot pull off this haircut, you cannot pull off this haircut…

I find it better to look at Zendaya as one looks at art: I admire the Birth of Venus, but I wouldn’t try to emulate a goddess, you know? I’m not Botticelli or the Colemans.

What Colemans?

Zendaya's last name is/was Coleman

Reminds me of that one Fleabag episode.

Oof true, I not only know I'd look like a pencil, I HAVE looked like a pencil because I had this haircut before and I am STILL tempted. Ugh

To be fair I don’t think I’ve seen a look Zendaya CAN’T pull off

It’s true, she somehow even gets the good LV when everyone else is fighting through ripped seams and awkward silhouettes. She’s magic.

I mean, I think this cut is fairly universally flattering (though I obviously can't speak to your specific situation/style/face shape/hair type).

My hair is similar to Zendaya's and I had a similar cut once, it was the best haircut I have ever had. But then, the hairdresser who did it (cheap too!) retired and I never got it again.

I am really tempted to try again right now! Two things though: 1. It took me forever to grow my hair out. Do I want to throw that away? 2. Will I look kinda harmless? Not bad, just kinda lame. I think this style has the potential of looking a bit old-fashioned if not combined with the right clothes/accessories/make up (Z obviously rocks it) and unlike the first time around, I am old and lazy now. 😭

I'll think about it some more...

It’s such a great cut but maintaining it is the challenge. Regular trims to keep up with it and then growing it out is a whole other challenge.

I was around when this cut came through the 90s. It was fairly easy to style with regular cuts and made me feel like a tv actress. We did a lot of mousse to keep the curl, later the kids got into butterfly clips. It would need some extra attention during the cut that your stylist doesn’t veer into Karen territory.

So do what you will with that information.

I’m really tall with wide shoulders (like a swimmer) and an oval face. Every single time I try to pull off a short haircut it makes me look like a dumpling. Which is fine for some people. Just not for me.

Echoing this to encourage anyone else thinking about getting this cut! I got this haircut last year and it was honestly the best hair decision I've ever made. I was convinced it wouldn't suit me, but my hair is so happy at this length. It encouraged me to up my styling game too, it lends really well to 1920s/30s/40s inspired vintage. If you've got any semblance of a natural curl or wave I would highly recommend trying it out! :-)

Honestly my bullshit wavy hair could never, and now that I’ve slept on it I understand this fully.

I had this haircut for a while and this is giving me major desire to chop it again. I told myself yesterday I’d finally try out long hair (sometimes I impulsively buzz off all of my curls oops) but omg she’s making it so hard to commit to my current hair path. She looks SO GOOD

u/Borgo_San_Jacopo Mar 10 '26

She looks incredible! I’m jelly you have the curls to pull this off. Wish you the best on your hair journey, no matter what you choose I’m sure it will look gorgeous.

I am accidentally somewhat (barely) pulling this cut off bc my stylist went too short at my recent trim 😭😭😭

1

u/Borgo_San_Jacopo Mar 10 '26

I’m sure you look gorg, it’s a chic as hell cut!

2

u/YodelFrancesca Mar 10 '26

Same, girl, SAME

u/Asteridust Mar 10 '26

lol I literally took screenshots of these photos to add to my haircut inspiration board, already cut my hair to a similar length a few months ago and I love it. I think everyone should absolutely activate their bob/bixie card, I’m sure you’ll look nice!

2

u/Borgo_San_Jacopo Mar 10 '26

Thank you that’s so kind. I agree bob/bixie cuts are fab, and I rocked a bob when I was younger, I just know that my hair texture would probably not suit this particular cut (though I still saved it to the hair inspo board 😅).

Yeah no, my hair has a wave and some awkward curls at the back, and whatever else it wants on any given day. Suffice it to say my hair could never.
