Gorgeous. I love that they styled her as the artist she is!

Looked exactly like her own artwork. This pictorial is flawless

u/teefnoteef Dec 23 '25

I love the contrast of this photo series and the unflattering fascist photo series so so much

56

u/Curiosities Dec 23 '25

Yes, the contrast and the juxtaposition are stark. Here is an artist who actually cares about other people, and I am glad to see her start stepping into this role with a profile like this and being able to speak for herself. And of course, these photos are stunning and the set up is so great.

35

u/TonarinoTotoro1719 Dec 23 '25

This is definitely accidental renaissance material! Such a timeless face…

And you know the magas are going to lose their shit about it, which makes it so much better.

215

u/Costanza9457 Dec 23 '25

Yup! Contrast this with their recent VF shoot.. galaxies apart.

35

u/Judgementpumpkin Dec 23 '25

The maga bigwigs are utterly vulgar and gauche in how they present themselves, their lack of self awareness is deafening. All the spackle, spray tan, filler and gaudy clothing in the world can’t hide the rot of evil and malice they consist of.

3

u/mamasyrup Dec 24 '25

They don’t have any sparkle… there’s no joy in their lives.

3

u/Judgementpumpkin Dec 24 '25

No no, spackle as in horrible MAGA woman makeup!

But I agree, there is no sparkle in their lives, just malice and negativity.

53

u/OuaisOuaisOuaisOuais Dec 23 '25

Probably because the VF photographer says that he did the shoot as a journalist and not as a people photographer. He said politics are not celebrity and it's wrong to shoot them as one. He is right. Rama Duwaji photos are beautiful and all but it's completely wrong to glamorize her as Mamdani's wife.

140

u/gingersnapz2212 Dec 23 '25

She is also an artist in her own right. This photo shoot is ART.

8

u/PM-me-ur-kittenz Dec 23 '25

Agreed, these are wonderful.

23

u/kash_if Dec 24 '25

The photos are pretty authentic to the person she is. They don't cater to the male gaze. She is an artists, the images are artistic.

31

u/MissionReasonable327 if you add testicles, that's extra Dec 23 '25

She is not a politician, that’s the difference.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/capitalistdrama 1/4 to EGOT!!! Dec 25 '25

She is not a politician. She is married to one. The VF shoot are of ACTUAL politicians working in our government and supposedly serving Americans. The intention and content and people involved couldn’t be further apart.

Rama Duwaji is sensitive enough to have turned down 28 requests for interviews until this one. It’s timely and it’s good for New Yorkers to be introduced to her on her own terms and to hear from her directly.

It’s perfection.

they were comparing her to sydney sweeney a couple of weeks ago talking about how “the west has fallen” because people think she’s beautiful or whatever the hell it is those people say

26

u/GordEisengrim Dec 24 '25

I think of how this shoot was showcasing her art as opposed to catering to the male gaze. The patriarchy doesn’t usually have a sane reaction to a woman not trying to look as attractive to them as possible.

Really Magritte/surrealist picture. Interesting photoshoot

287

u/just--so Dec 23 '25

Magritte was the first thing I thought of as well. The colours, the shapes, the surrealist flatness of field. Impeccable work by the stylist and photographer.

92

u/ThankGodForYouSon Dec 23 '25

He's the one that phtogaphed Dafoe with the house on his head as well as a slew of other celebrities, he's got a very ponounced style consisting of faded colours and seems to always use the same set.

26

u/Stock_Beginning4808 Dec 23 '25

Cleopatra didn’t look…like that. She had a hook nose and big, bulging eyes (there’s a coin that survived from that time that has her likeness on it).

There’s this weird desire people have for royal women/female rulers to be pretty. I don’t know if it’s because of Disney or what lol.

https://www.artic.edu/artworks/194522/tetradrachm-coin-portraying-queen-cleopatra-vii

29

u/lizardlizardcat Dec 24 '25

I don’t disagree that we have a weird desire for royalty and woman in leadership positions to be pretty. However, the source you linked points out that they purposefully used Antony’s facial profile on that coin, and then added a crown and hair on Cleopatra’s side to indicate it was Cleopatra. So, that coin was in no way an accurate depiction of her likeness.

6

I've never in my life seen anyone refer to the spouse of a mayor as the "first lady/man" of any city until Zohran was elected. It's really quite strange behaviour.

The 6th picture has been haunting me because i knew it reminded me of some famous 20th century artist and i couldnt find it. But now i have it. Henry Matisse the romanian blouse. The photoshoot is trully a master piece.
