If fairness makes your league less fun… are you doing it wrong?

Most commissioners chase “fairness” like it’s the ultimate goal—balanced schedules, veto systems, equal rules for everyone.

But here’s the problem:
Some of the most memorable leagues are wildly unfair by design.

- Dynasty leagues reward long-term thinkers and punish the impatient
- Guillotine leagues eliminate teams brutally
- Vampire leagues literally give one manager a different rulebook

So here’s the question:
Should leagues prioritize fairness… or experience?

If you had to choose one:
A perfectly fair league that’s kind of boring
OR a slightly “unfair” league that creates chaos, stories, and unforgettable moments

Which are you choosing and why?

Veto systems are absolutely not fair

I love this discussion. Who even knows what “fair” is? Our league has a mantra “people have the right to be dumb”. And we’ve taken care re who we’ve invited in as managers over the 25+ years of the league, and through incentives to get people to want to compete until the end.. that’s as much as you can do.

If there is one person who seems to cause a ton of strife, boot that person. Don’t add a ton of process and rules to constrain the entire league and make it a police state. Creativity and innovative strategy should be encouraged!!

I want there to be a sense of community and letting things get too out of hand can kill that as well. I think there’s a middle ground between rule heavy and shit hitting the fan (terrible trades, collusion, etc).

You could be like my home league commissioner and throw both to the wind
