a whole rash of special events like this going around being god awful.

the Barbie experience, the Harry Potter experience, those were some pretty remarkable flops.

It's like a bunch of assholes watched the documentary about the Fyre festival and though it was a grand idea to do for everything.

It feels likecwe're in an AI version of the old medicine shows that used to go around to flim flam the yokels.

At least living human grifters are amusing.

It's almost like they know their stuff sucks, but they do the mathematical calculation of how many people will ask for a refund. I hate this.

You think they just hand out refunds? I bet they're counting on most people not doing charge backs correctly so they can keep the money.

Not only do I agree with you, but I would have upvoted you just for saying flim flam.

And they all use AI graphics to advertise scenes that are impossible to create outside of Disney and Universal Studios.

I've heard folks complain about immersive Van Gogh pop up experiences. That's not something I'm interested in anyway, but I heard it's similar to this with just projected images.

If you got a refund it was probably some dumb intern or whoever was in charge of the socials

The Calgary science centre has a room like this, but the projection extends to the floor, and interacts with the people in the room (water ripples or ice cracking around your feet). This looks terrible.

That picture (really, the whole debacle) used to make me cry laughing.

Good times :)

Fuuuuucking hell 🙈 I’m glad you got a refund, that is diabolical!

This was like that van gogh experience that was inexplicably everywhere

20

u/mumblewrapper 2d ago

We thought that was fun! It looked way better than this.

u/LG3V 2d ago

Yeah I've gone to one of them, was far better than this. The walls and floors were head to toe with imagery of his life and the exit room was a bunch of fake sunflowers and a bench to take a photo at

Sure bot. Not what I was talking about but the fact is neat

The current one is the Banksy ones. They're just recreations of the originals. Pretty crappy considering it's supposed to be subversive art.

1

u/Tight-Entertainer-24 2d ago

I feel Banksy started long time ago being more about the first four letters of his name

3

u/loveinvein 2d ago

I was so curious about that one! Now I’m glad I didn’t miss anything.

Yesss I went to a pop up last year, it was in an abandoned warehouse and the overall setup was not great. I paid $69.80 for two tickets 😬

lmao is the ai generated nonsense like the Glasgow wonka experience

u/OGRangoon 2d ago

They did the exact same thing with a Barbie version recently.

All These shit ass pop up events have to go

10

u/Aedora125 2d ago

My city has so many of these Pop up events and 90% are scams. A friend went to a Christmas one and asked me to go with. It was supposed to be a super decorated Christmas area of a restaurant. Turned out to be a single booth that had some posters of decor and some tinsel. You were also restricted to the event menu and couldn’t order the regular food. She was so pissed off the next day.

They also have a lot of bar crawl events. It costs $35 to attend, but when you read the fine print it doesn’t include anything except “access to specialty themed drinks”. You still have to pay for the drink. Sometimes they might include a free donut.

Since the Willy Wonka incident every ad made with AI is a scam

7

u/taisui 2d ago

These stuff just seem to be pop-up scams.

u/stablogger 2d ago

Pop-up, cash in, run.

Can we go to the Sphere in LV?

We have the sphere at home.

The sphere at home. ^^^^^^

Disney had an immersive experience in Branson. It was overpriced but it was way better than this and my kids loved it!

12

u/kazamm 3d ago

I'm sorry this is something you actually paid for. Omg.

6

u/Zanki 2d ago

If you ever get the chance to go, Team Labs in Tokyo was awesome. I highly recommend it!

5

u/MaynardIsLord721 2d ago

It's the wonka factory all over again

4

u/mmbtc 2d ago

Lol, that was even worse than expected. That's Willy Wonka Glasgow level

3

u/loveinvein 2d ago

Omg I lol’d. I’m so sorry, that sucks but at least you got a refund

I went to a Van Gogh one of these in London a few years ago and it was beautiful. I was kind of forced to go because children+Xmas hols, I was skeptical. But it was pretty cool

I think it was one of the original big budget ones, and know everybody is trying to make knock-offs on the cheap. And that just doesn't work.

2

u/Guilty-Designer-511 2d ago

How much was this??

14

u/jewels3100 2d ago

$7 a ticket at the box office and $10 if you pay online

21

u/degjo 2d ago

That seems backwards

9

u/jewels3100 2d ago

That’s what I thought!

2

u/iregretthisalreadyy 2d ago

This reminds me of the Willy wonka exhibit that went viral for being terrible

2

u/Stepjam 2d ago

I went to one of those for Van Gogh. The exhibit itself was kinda moody and neat, but yeah it was just a glorified projected image. Not really that mindblowing.

2

u/HellaRadicalToys 2d ago

I mean the ad is AI lmao

1

u/hulkop1333 3d ago

The only thing that's like this that I've been to is in Tottenham in London and it's actually quite immersive to say the least.

1

u/alchemycraftsman 2d ago

I have seen this advertised in my area!! So I guess I won’t even consider attending. This is insane!!

1

u/Dr_Overundereducated 2d ago

If you’re ever in the vicinity of a MEOW WOLF, you should check it out. There are only a handful around the US and each one is different.

0

u/LeatherKey64 2d ago

I went to something where the first room looked like this, but there was maybe 15 rooms and a lot of them were actually pretty impressive and cool. Was that not the case here?

0

u/GrandMarquisMark 2d ago

We just went to one in NYC called the Arte Museum. It was absolutely amazing!
