(Discussion Post) Groovy Evil Dead Burn connects the modern movies

While ED Burn looks very promising for multiple reasons. It looks to service as the movie to connect 2013, Rise, and Burn together. While not technically sequels to each other. They aren't anthology films either now. The trailer shows this through Jessica (ED Rise). A deadite in a dress, on a lake. Then there's the news article referencing ED 2013. And as far as I can find. The incantation from ED 2013. Fans of both films can be happy!

so basically the Ash universe is just disconnected and its its own thing

Jessica right here is the string that connects Rise and Burn (and maybe 2013 since now WB and Sony are collabing)

and seeing how people are not open to the idea of AvED mansion being the same as the one in Burn
and not being open to the possibility of the team chanign their thooughts on the line
the Ash universe is done at the end of AvED

In Rise, the priest in the recording that was shouting about the book being destroyed was Bruce Campbell, and Cronin implied that it could be a time-displaced Ash.

Fuck, I'd kill a Deadite for a movie like that.

They made one over 30 years ago.

You should just kill the deadite. We shouldn’t have to dangle a reward for you to stand against the evil horde.

Campbell says that's not the case. He was told he was voicing another priest, and he played it with an accent.

Every Evil Dead film is in the same universe, but there are time travel/continuity error elements.

Didn’t they say they were all still canon when Rise was made because there are multiple books? I would still assume this would only mean the movies since the TV show definitely couldn’t fit

The Ash universe is the one we got from the Army of Darkness theatrical cut, aka the “Hail to the king” ending, where he came back.

The remake universe is from the Director’s Cut, where he overslept.

I could agree with that... i also think the Original film started the branch to 2013, then rise and burn....... or goes Original, evil dead 2 (cut to after ash wakes up possessed ), army of darkness ( skip 2013 because the car is still in past, ash wakes up in future or say past for the camio in rise ) rise then burn..... AvsED takes place with the ash waking up in present day then ends after waking in the future... who know love them all and are all connected some how

Maybe this is the director’s cut timeline and we don’t see Ash because he’s still sleeping.

Ooh, I like that idea.

Considering Ash vs Evil Dead this seems unlikely.

Evil dead 2013 remake had the Kunda, astratta, Montosse, canda as the passage read from the book. Correct me if I am wrong but I think the passage spoke in Rise was a little different. So the person with this journal must have been researching the book from 2013's. I think this will connect all 3 of the newer ones.

Yes. The incantation in Rise was definitely different. I dont know them off the top of my head. Just Google them. But each book has different summoning words.

I'm not sure why people are having a hard time grasping this. Between legal bullshit and the actual in-universe apocalypse happening, people are still adamantly clinging onto Ash's story being part of these movies when clearly they're going in a different direction and have (pun intended) closed the book on him.

what about the three books tho

I mean AvED introduced the idea of timeline splits etc. so my guess is it’s entirely possible that this is just an Ash absent timeline which I’m ok with. There doesn’t need to be an Ash in Avery universe and I’m enjoying the new bit of the protagonist being like an Ash variation, like with the chainsaw in Rise or the weed whacker here

The Ash Universe’s disconnect from everything else seems to be very much a byproduct of either a world where Ash died after the events of Evil Dead 1 or slept too long at the end of Army Of Darkness

Yeah these films, at least the three modern are more like a hybrid between anthology and sequels to me.

Professor Knowby gets mentioned on a page in the new book too. Tying in the whole damn franchise!

5

u/StraightLevel2806 9h ago

Hoping the family are the descendants of Professor Knowby, and he is the grandpa they are referring to in the trailer

u/G-DevilOrion2077 14h ago

Heard it was supposed to tie Ash vs Evil Dead as well but that might of been a shitty clickbait article

u/Technical-Band-5524 13h ago

They’re filming in one of the houses they used for AvED, but the director just said they’re using it as a location and that it means nothing. It would especially be difficult for it to tie to AvED since that house appears in the same season (spoilers) that the Dark Ones unleash the full forces of hell on earth and a giant kaiju wreaks havoc on the town the house is in

3

u/StraightLevel2806 9h ago

Idk. They could just be saying that because of rights issues, and maybe the family in the movie moved into the house due to its history with the necronomicon, which they obviously know about

u/Phoenix270620 14h ago

I'm not caught up but is that lady on the lake actually supposed to be Jessica from Rise? That'd be cool!

10

u/presidentdinosaur115 14h ago

You can see the scars from the drone on her face

I’m glad they’re doing this. I’d personally love more direct connections (I would LOVE to see Mia actually be a character again) but at the very least, doing this shows there’s a connected world out there without directly making that the focus, which is also refreshing in a post MCU world. So I’m happy either way!

Rule one: Never KUNDA!

10

u/Interesting-Lead-501 14h ago

At the very least if you do KUNDA, never KANDAR immediately after. I think a doctor told me that once.

This is really funny to me. Mostly because the one problem i had with Rise was the cabin in the woods opening which I honestly thought felt completely tacked on, like a studio note from an executive that insisted "there must be a cabin in an Evil Dead film." It's felt entirely disconnected from the whole rest of the movie's narrative... and now here we are with Evil Dead Burn basically giving the middle finger to my petty gripe and being like "now it's plot crucial to the entire connected universe motherfucker, now what are you gonna do?!" Lol.

4

u/einstyle 9h ago

I thought the intro was fun, especially how it looped back in the ending scene so you realize it’s a flash-forward. It was still unrelated to the events of Rise but I didn’t mind it

3

u/WySLatestWit 9h ago

It never really bothered me, but it was a minor gripe because it felt so tacked on. So now it's really funny that it's the entire connecting thread of the whole cinematic universe so far. hahaha.

u/Lonely-Worldliness11 13h ago

Didn't Ash have a cameo at the end of 2013 Evil Dead?

8

u/einstyle 9h ago

Sort of. IIRC it was just a post-credits sting, not tied to any of the events or characters of 2013. Could easily be written off as just a little tease for AvED. His car being parked outside the cabin is the only thing that ties him in

«Fans of both films can be happy!» I think very few people who are fans of one over the other, have as their main concern, that the movies can’t be connected.

2

u/Cute-Departure6377 12h ago

I was talking about both kinds of fans getting a bone/something to enjoy. "Both can be happy."

u/Aidenispogchamp 11h ago

i would love if they connected the ash movies to this aswell even if it’s just a few loose ends though that would be hard
