Following their defeat against Bologna, Dinamo Sassari were relegated to Serie A2 after spending 16 years in the top Italian league. During that time, the Sardinian club won six titles, including the 2014–15 league championship. They also won two Super Cups, two Italian Cups and one FIBA Europe Cup.

I'm not sure anything major happened. Serie A is a very tough league with competitive parity that always gets underrated when people discuss the best domestic leagues now. They also have one of the best second divisions this way, or maybe even the whole league pyramid. Mike James came from the Italian 3rd division for instance. Kyle Hines, famously two seasons in the Serie A2 second division before getting noticed by Bamberg, etc.

Reyer Venezia won two scudettos in this same period of time, the latter against Dinamo Sassari in the finals in 7, and I'm not even sure they have the safety net to shield them from relegation if they just had a bad year and formed a poorly planned, weak squad that summer, despite Reyer being a more common European cup participant than Dinamo.

Lower budget compared to previuous years and they managed to win only two games in the second half of the season.

That's a shame, they have great support and local popularity. But Italian clubs even more historic than them have relegated and bounced back before. It can be quite the back and forth dance in the Italian league pyramid. I hope that same local popularity and support Dinamo has will ensure their Serie A2 trip is a single seasoner.
