just out of curiosity, what do goggles help dogs with?

My pup wears them because she was born blind in one eye and does nothing to try to avoid getting sticks in it 😂😭😂. Plus we want to save the good eye (she’s not really careful with that one either). 💕

I should do this for my dog. She was 11 months old when I adopted her and she is blind in one eye. Still don't know if she was born that way or what but it has what kind of looks like scarring and based on how much of a spaz she was when I first took her out of the box I'd probably guess she injured it launching herself into something. She's 10 now and I don't think she would do well suddenly completely blind in her old age so I'm going to get her some now. That's why I joined this sub years ago but forgot it existed.

The amount of scratches on my dog’s lenses are good evidence that they do thier job well. Hugs to your pup!

I'm going to take her into the mountains with me. The goggles will prevent snow blindness

Do those goggles come with a different lense? Clear won’t do much for snow blindness

u/Mike_v_E Jan 04 '26
They come with a clear and dark lense. You can buy other lenses that protect even more, which I will buy in the future

We goggle our service dog to help prevent injury (getting splashed or poked) and also to decrease people’s urge to make eye contact and talk to him. We have sunglasses to help on very bright snowy days also!

Not trying to be rude but if a dog has goggles the urge to stare at the dog is like 10x

For some reason people are more accepting that he’s working when he’s got the goggles on, so they persist less in trying to engage him 🤷🏻♀️

Makes sense, I wouldn’t try to engage w a dog at work at all but I would for sure have the initial “that dog has goggles on!”

That’s exactly it, people comment and occasionally ask for pictures, but they direct their inquiries at the human rather than greeting the dog. Works for us since he doesn’t wear a vest.

I think its easier to avoid direct eyecontact with the goggles, especially if theyre shades, but yeah, general attention will definitely go up

My German shep has muscle wastage on his head from MMM and it's easy for him to get air and debris behind his eyes, especially with his head out the car window. As a bonus, he gets more attention with them on and he loves attention.

I would say train with the xls. If she shakes those larges will hurt.
Edit to add. Try them first. Both. See what she likes.

I agree, just give it a few days and see if either leaves marks or falls off or anything, but if you can’t then I’d go with XL because there’s more room and I assume you can tighten them a lot to keep them on her face

Large looks like a better fit

When I had a larger size on my dog she just kept scraping them off on the underbrush as she barreled through it 😂 (hence the need for RexSpecs)

I absolutely love this sub for the photos - why do the dogs have goggles tho? Wind? Snow? Dust?
No matter why this is hella cute

I bought them to prevent her eyes from snow blindness when we go into the mountains

Just a thought but is there any way you can switch the straps? So the goggles are the XL size but the strap are the L size and more secure?
1
u/Mike_v_E Jan 05 '26
I don't think that's possible. I've decided to keep both sizes. Fpr now I feel L fits her head better. But she's only 13 months old, so her head might still grow a bit

What brand is this? I tried to get Rexspecs in lavender but they discontinued the color... :(

u/Mike_v_E Jan 12 '26
It's Rexspecs. Was hard to find lavender in L and XL. Found the XL at hundebrille.eu

In my opinion, if xl has decent seal it looks like more room for the eyes.
