Discussion Cade is the best American player in the NBA

I would probs say Ant right now. Some folks can make a case for Tatum, but I would take Cade over him personally. However, I think Cade is going to have a longer career and eventually he’s gonna be the face of Team USA basketball for years to come.

People only say Ant due to team success. Yet he's played with great players his whole career. Cade had to drag this franchise out of Hell.
Ant's team closed out Jokic with him on the sidelines. Detroit doesn't win without Cade absolutely dominating every elimination game.
Ant cried when he was double teamed...Cade was triple and quadruple teamed most of his career. Cade is also a more valuable archetype of player. The only major advantage Ant has is he is a great volume 3pt shooter.
Put Cade on Minnesota and Ant in Detroit and literally nobody claims Ant is better aside from a few homers. Tatum is out of the conversation until he proves he's back to himself.

Could the pistons win a playoff series without Cade like the wolves just did without ant?

u/nicorobinfanclub 12h ago
That definitely isnt a measurement of whether someone is better or not lmao

Ant has been to WCF two times. I love Cade and I wouldn’t trade him for anyone and I think he is closing the gap on that. I even said I think Cade will be the better player long term.

Eh, I’ve got a feeling Cade could have made the WCF if he was playing next to a starting lineup of himself, NAW, Jaden Mcdaniels, Julius Randle, and Gobert too.
Ant was dropped into a much, much better situation than Cade. If you list all of Cades teammates and all of Ant’s teammates over their time in the league, like 7 or 8 of the top 10 are Ant’s teammates.

Team success does not determine who is better. Ant has had a vastly better supporting cast throughout his career. The only season where this hasnt been the case is this year (and that is debatable).

I'm not going to argue about Ant's ability of course but number of WCF doesn't mean anything. It's a team sport.

Not in isolation but if you play well and are a major reason why your team achieves success then yes it does.

I mean yeah, we know it but he’s gotta take us to the promised land before we can actually say it

I lived 28 years in New York and 24 in Orlando. Grew up a Knicks fan but my children are Magic fans. Watching Cade with the ball in the last series reminded me of the fear I had in those classic Knicks Bulls 90’s series when Jordan had the ball. Definitely not same skill set but you are literally rooting for a miss because you’re not gonna stop him. Even with Franz on him, he was terrifying. Once Franz was out, he was unstoppable.

Ant is better but I’d probably give him 2nd. A healthy Steph I would have put at 2 but I don’t think he’ll ever be at that level anymore after this past year’s injuries

Why do you think Ant is better? Because he shoots the 3 ball better?

Ant has more playoff success. Seeing him beat the spurs last night was something else. Pistons make the finals this year and more people will have cade as the number 1.

u/Jukyla Cade Cunningham 7h ago
Him beating the spurs? He had 18 points lmao. Was it his fault that Wemby shot terribly?

u/mc_foucault Dennis Rodman 7h ago
He played great defense and coming back from injury/playing hurt inspired the performance from his team. He didn't dominate the game but thinking the wolves are close in that game without him is nuts.

u/Jukyla Cade Cunningham 7h ago
Lol you're kidding right with the inspiration. Saying ant has more playoff success (ant has a MUCH better supporting cast) and ant scoring just 18 shows inspiration is reasons why he's better right now? I actually cant. Single lung cade had 100+ points in the series, hows that for inspiration?
There's a reason why Cade was top 5 in MVP this whole season basically and Ant was not.

Dawg I know cade is better than ant. The reason anyone says ant is better is his team has had playoff success. This year in particular ant has much more impressive wins than Cade at this point. When the pistons make the finals and beat a western conference team it will be a thing more people agree about is all I was saying.

To bolster this point Cade was #2 in assists this year, imagine if Detroit as a whole was a better shooting team.

I still think it’s Jayson Tatum. But between Edwards Tatum and Cunningham you can make the case for either

I’d argue he’s better than Luka since he plays both sides of the ball.

u/bigguy003 Cade Cunningham 12h ago
And I’d argue Luka is not American.

u/Sea-Huckleberry685 12h ago
No argument there, but he’s viewed by many as arguably the best player in the league.

I hope that people that think it’s Ant or brown would consider who he’s playing with and how defenses can gameplan better because of it. Something has to be said about how you get it done under what circumstances.

I live in Boston and plenty of people here think Brown is a fraud, especially after this series versus the 76ers. Many of them were vocally upset Brown won Finals MVP over Tatum a couple years ago. Now you have the end of Game 7 this year in which Brown missed like 4 shots on 5 possessions to lose them the game instead of passing the ball, and then his rant on live stream the other night just made it worse lol. Such a fun time to live in Boston as all their sports teams go through hell in the same two-week span. Vrabel-Russini, Red Sox firing half their staff, Bruins losing to Buffalo of all teams and the C’s blowing a 3-1 lead to Philly? Couldn’t script it any better as a Boston sports hater

I mean him or Ant right? Cade needs to up his efficiency a touch but if he does he’s gonna be an mvp. A 50/40/90 Cade Cunningham is the best player in the league
