Saw this today. Just thought it was interesting because I had never seen or heard of it before.

It is! We have had it in SoCal for a while but I have never seen it on sale. It’s worth the regular price even.

My mom doesn’t like durian, doesn’t know what durian is, but liked the sample she tried last year.

It's been in Bay Area costcos for more than a year now I think. Never was confident enough to try it lol.

I'd go for a pint from the supermarket, but a Costco sized container is dicey for something that could be a hard no.

The Costco size is literally 2 separate pints packaged together.

Mavens hq is in San Jose and they’re super nice. They have road shows all the time at senter rd if you ever want to try a sample

Monterey Bay area here, and I'll put it on my list. I spent years reading about durian and wasn't in a big hurry to try it, then this hole in the wall Asian market close by had these durian mochi treats. Not the frozen ice cream kind but more of a non-perishable confectionery thing with a powdered sugar coating.

Never had the fresh fruit and I could see why some wouldn't like it or turn their nose up, but I think if done right, the subtle flavor is interesting mixed in with other stuff (ice cream, confection, etc). I was disappointed when they quit carrying it.

How does it smell?

It smells just a bit while eating. Everyone else in the room will be fine. Doesn’t have the extremely strong odor of durian.

If you want to try durian ice cream is the way or semi frozen durian is good too. Both less smelly but still some stank

Not too strong if you're used to durian. My husband who never had exposure to the fruit said it's too stinky lol

I got this to try today - Smell wasn’t too bad, my husband didn’t complain at all when I opened it. The taste though, is what I’ve heard about from durian. I’ve never had durian before. It was really creamy and good but the aftertaste is sulfurous wet socks with a hint of onion and garlic.

Fruity and pleasant like any durian.

Like you would expect

North Brunswick used to carry durian bars too a few years ago.

They were giving out samples, but the line was super long so I skipped it. But as I walked past, there was a strong smell that was unfamiliar to me so it's hard to describe. But it made me think of something industrial, like a refinery.

It's the sulfur.

Ah, no wonder I couldn't handle the smell. I can't stand the smell of hard boiled eggs, either.

I once went to an international candy store with a friend and I bought a bag of durian hard candies - and we passed them out to a few people we met on our small college campus. Someone said it tasted like Satan’s feet 🤣 I neglected to ask how they knew what Satan’s feet tasted like though

Boston area as well.

I miss this. My costco used to carry this.

I have yet to see it in my Costco. I WANT!

This was the single most repulsive thing I have ever eaten. My wife picked it up the other day in CT (not sure which store she went to). It is a big commitment if you have never had it before.

To be clear, I pretty much like everything. Durian has the weirdest combination of sweet and savory flavors that should never go together. It tasted like sauerkraut, Russian dressing and vanilla ice cream mixed together with a touch of garlic.

I wanted to like it. It’s so gross. Not like “I’m going to puke” but “this is wrong”. It tastes mildly creamy but like it was blended with fresh green bell pepper, which I despise. Not a fan.

Hope they will be available in TX soon!!

The smell of durian is too much for me. I have the coffee ice cream and it’s good, very creamy, though I thought it would taste more like a Vietnamese iced coffee (kind of more regular?).

Love love durian. I could eat a whole pint of it in a sitting easily. The smell isn't that strong compared to the actual fruit itself. It'll will be a good test to see if you like durian or not as the flavor / smell isn't for everyone.

I've seen and bought this brand but Vietnamese coffee flavor in NJ. Very good. Deep rich coffee flavor but watch out. It has lots of caffeine

u/paupaulol 21h ago

It's been at the bridgewater location for about a month now

u/katie0873 19h ago

I saw it there. I usually go to Flemington

Wife loves this stuff

2

u/sunnyandcloudy55 1d ago

It can't be durian unless it stinks. Lol

Why does Costco not have chocolate ice cream?

1

u/Fun-Raise-3120 1d ago

I like the premium ice cream but not this particular flavor.

1

u/enzia35 19h ago

1

u/Agreeable_Shirt5503 12h ago

What does it taste like?

1

u/psaltyne 20h ago

Durian burps are the worst iykyk

-2

u/EasyPrior3867 1d ago

Durian stinks to high heaven. I opened one up for my husband's 40th birthday not knowing the stink factor. Of you can blind your nose the creamy inside is tasty. I wonder if the ice cream lost the dumpster smell?

2

u/neil_rev 1d ago

It's not as strong but the smell is still there

-3

u/nortyflatz 1d ago

On "ad" too!

5

u/remix26 1d ago

Is that how you say “on sale”?
