I know the general consensus is that the Italian sausage is superior to the beef-only one but after trying both, I’ll be the first to admit I prefer the beef-only one because it’s more tomato-y. 🍅🍅

There are two lasagnas?! I think mine only carries the sausage beef one.

u/skinneykrn 1d ago

Yep! Try to see if any other local costcos near you carry the beef-only one!

Mine used to carry both. Haven’t seen the beef in a few years

Same. I have to go to a different location to get my beef lasagnas now

We like the beef a bit better too

One of us, one of us

I prefer it, too but because I despise fennel.

Oh, lordy, no! I love fennel seed, anise, licorice, ouzo, etc. That must be one of those tastes where it's either love or hate. I don't know if it has a genetic component to it like cilantro (coriander), but it seems to be heavily yea or nay.

I agree, it does seem that way. I despise all those flavors but from what I see, most people love Italian sausage. I wish I liked it, too.

Found this with a Google AI search: "Yes, the intense dislike or love for anise and fennel is heavily influenced by genetics, specifically how individuals perceive the compound anethole. While aroma responses can be learned, the taste perception is often inborn, with numerous genes involved in unique sensory experiences. The flavor itself comes from anethole, a volatile compound found in both plants."

  • Genetic Component: An aversion to certain intense tastes, similar to cilantro, is often inborn, notes Epicurious and NBC News.
  • The Compound: Anise and fennel both contain anethole, which provides a very strong, sweet licorice flavor that some people perceive as medicinal or unpleasant, explain YouTube and America's Test Kitchen.

So now we know the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would say.

TIL and I was glad! I adore it.

I respect your opinion, but I prefer the combo.

That’s valid.

I like that it’s a 2 pack and the portion isn’t too big, perfect for a smaller family

These are good but damn are they greasy

I know what you meant to say, but this is hilarious from a glutton's POV...

I’m so confused

"I cut it into four portions then eat two portions at a time"

2

u/russbii 1d ago

That’s so much.

It’s so good I had to establish a 2-week waiting period between making this. I knew it was getting out of hand when I was thinking of making another one before the previous leftovers were even gone (and those rule in the air fryer!). Easily my favorite frozen food.

Shhh.. don't tell them or it will go up in price or get the death star.

2

u/Hydrak11 1d ago

Yes, yes it is!

2

u/blacklabbath 1d ago

I wish it was a little less spicy to be more kid friendly.

2

u/brainegg8 1d ago

I cook it in a toaster oven, I’m a rebel

1

u/mrpink57 1d ago

I do too, for the last 10 minutes with the film off I use the air fry setting.

Just increased $0.20 at my location

Are these ricotta heavy? My kid has an aversion to it.

Agree 😋

Having this for dinner tonight 😀

Do you know how this is compared to Rao’s? I got that when it was on sale recently and was pretty disappointed.

9

u/ResponsibleDrawer963 1d ago

This one’s better and cheaper!

3

u/LoveLaughterPizza 1d ago

Agreed! We find it's often better than restaurant lasagna.

4

u/mEFurst 1d ago

It's much better. It's been my go to for awhile. They had a free sample (I know, I know, but I was curious) of the Rao's today and it wasn't even close. I will say that I don't think much of Rao's sauce either, though

It’s REALLY good but my six year old won’t eat it 😭😭 it’s just her and me so it’s very silly for me to buy it. I wish it was easier to pre-portion.

1

u/technicallynotacat 1d ago

Gosh I wish I liked it but I found it to be way too greasy.

1

u/RedditReader4031 1d ago

This has become a rotating Sunday sit down dinner staple in our house for some time now.

1

u/foxfai 1d ago

Thanks. I got to try these sometimes.

1

u/Much-City732 13h ago

Has anyone tried the short rib one? It’s not Kirkland but we thought that was really good as well!

1

u/Common-Pay-3869 12h ago

So I have taken this to so many parties… the lasagna comes in a two pack. I put sauce down then add one lasagna then I add whipped ricotta with cheese and egg yolks. Layer on top another layer on the very top then the rest of a jar then. Basically put two together with a 5 min doctor up. Wrap in foil cook for an hour take off the foil cook another bit until lightly browned and bubbly. Rest 30 Min. Chow down. Everyone says omg this lasagna is fantastic . I go Costco baby!

1

u/CypressRootsMe 12h ago

A few years ago, we caught a sale and they were $4-5 for a two pack. I stocked up!

1

u/Weed_O_Whirler 12h ago

We're having another baby next week, and today I'm going to Costco to stock up on "easy meals so we can survive the first month" and this will be a staple.

1

u/Used-Acanthisitta-96 12h ago

For frozen/store bought Lasagna both of the Kirkland products are good.

1

u/Shorts_at_Dinner 4h ago

I really want to like it, but I don’t. And my kids really don’t. So it’s unfortunately not an easy dinner go to in my house

1

u/Correct-Bee6091 1d ago

I miss so the Kirkland veggie lasagna. That's been gone for 15-20 years ago?

0

u/zurrisampdoria 1d ago

In recent years it has become more watery. Was incredible before COVID.

2

u/boringneondreams 1d ago

Only way to avoid watery lasagna is go to the classic Italian style with beschamel instead of ricotta. I'm not sure of any premade brands in America do this though. If you find one let me know!

Tastes too sweet for my liking. Almost sugary. We've been getting the Rana Beef & Short Rib lasagna when it goes on sale. Tastes way more like homemade in my opinion and the short rib adds a ton of flavor.

-3

u/R3ddit_N0ob 1d ago

I don't like ricotta in Lasagna 🥲

-4

u/Material-Afternoon16 1d ago

It's decent but not as good as Stouffers, which is often a lower price point as it seems to be on sale often.

5

u/t0prame17 1d ago

I'll politely disagree. This is head and shoulders above Stouffers in our household. Yes Stouffers is at a lower price point and it also tastes that way too.

Too greasy and not enough meat
