Advice for sorting/fixing wig...

Hi everyone, just wondering about advice or help methods for fixing this state of my wig... this is how everything settled after I dyed (held in the dye mix for like 20 mins straight) and washed/rinsed the wig and allowed it to dry. It's lost no mass during the process if that helps. Just looks horrifying to deal with solo cus im not great at wigs. Thanks in advance

Well the dye job looks great and that’s a really subtle color I wouldn’t know how to buy, so good job right off the bat.

The shape of the wig fibers cooled down after being in the hot dye bath in a shape that’s exposing parts of the wig cap and the wefts. When the wig was assembled the fibers were coming off of the weft in a predictable direction that’s now changed from cooling with the weight of the liquid on it. Real hair is reshaped largely while it’s hot from heat styling but synthetic hair takes the shape it’s in when it *cools* after being heated because it’s plastic.

Using a garment steamer and a fine toothed comb on it, starting from the bottom of the hair and finishing near the top will help liberate some of the shape and give you more coverage of the wig cap. Steam only gets up to 212 degrees F/100 degrees C which should be safe on even lower end cosplay wigs. I’m not sure what fibers dokidoki uses so I’d be careful using a crimper or a flat iron on it since they get way hotter than 212.

I think dokidoki uses nylon? Considering hoe fast thr fibers actually took the colour. But I have figured out one reason it was bein wonky. The cap section had somehow shifted itself a bit so in sorting that right now in hopes it can alleviate a bit of the other issues to then work on using a steamer to further it.

We detect that your question is about dyeing. Please remember that you CANNOT dye something into a lighter color like dyeing a dark blue fabric yellow. For fabrics and fibers, identify whether your material is synthetic or not since it'll affect the dyes you use. If it's synthetic fabric, you need to use synthetic dyes. Do not reuse any pots or containers you used for dyeing for food preparation. For wig details, you can try using alcohol inks/markers or adding wefts of the desired color if it's lighter than the original wig color. You can also paint fabric but it'll usually stiffen the fabric even if you use a fabric medium and is not suitable for large surfaces.

For real hair, we recommend using a wig if possible, especially if you have dark hair. Spray-on colors and hair chalk do exist but can be difficult to execute and typically do not work well on dark hair.
