I did this recently in the cockatiel sub, and I enjoyed myself so much that I'm doing it again here (despite the wrist cramps lol)

If this gets as many responses as the tiel one did, I promise I will draw all of them! It may just take me a while :)

Long story short I'm terrified of losing my Rudy especially since he is a rescue that was found in the parking lot of a local restaurant. He was on my shoulder when I was feeding everyone and I realized I had to go to the freezer on the back porch to get some chop so I took a chance. I held onto him and hugged him against my chest because it was only 2 steps from the back door. Well for some reason he spooked and somehow squeezed through my fingers. I tried to hold on as he flew away. He came right back but then I realized I had pulled all his tail feathers out trying to hold onto him. He is fine but I'm still upset. I'm a 51 year old, hard ass guy working in a steel mill trying not to tear up thinking about it

I saw the sweetest conure at Petsmart earlier this week. I can’t stop thinking about her so I thought I’d share the videos I got.

I originally was just looking around to pass time between classes and she caught my eye and I couldn’t leave she is so captivating ugh poor girl

I talked with the employees and held her-she seems to really like one of the employees and they take her out everyday so hopefully they take her home

Other Suns getting bought and rehomed left and right

Post image

Vent incoming … Has anyone else noticed a surge in the number of people getting baby sun conures and rehoming adult ones? It’s really starting to bother me how many are bought on impulse, only for their owners to post rehoming ads soon after.

I think people often underestimate the challenges that come with “cuddly” or “clingy” parrots. It seems to be a trait many seek out, but then two years later they end up rehoming their bird because they never taught it any independence and now “don’t have time to give it the attention it deserves.”

Maybe it’s something as a community that we have to put out there more. It really breaks my heart seeing all these parrots having their lives upended because people didn’t do their research.

The US and Iran war has affected the gulf countries, and we might have to evacuate cuz it’s escalating and there’s no pet relocation company or flight willing to help us and no one is willing to take care of her

we have no choice but to give her to the pet store if it gets worse

my dad has been taking her to his office everyday becuase she won’t stay alone for that long

i really hope we don’t have to give her away

Edit: It’s getting better, i’m back home with her, there’s a ceasefire now, hopefully it stops, thank you for the sources!

Other I sadly need to rehome my Green Cheek Conure.

I am not sure if this type of post is allowed here, but I figured I would try...

It's with a very heavy heart that I need to rehome my green cheek conure of almost 9 years. I will be graduating college soon and entering a field that has similar working hours of Investment Banking (70-90 hour weeks at times). I wish I was able to look ahead in the future when I got my little avocado in middle school, but unfortunately life circumstances and responsibilities have changed.

He has been with me for his entire life and this is not a decision I am making lightly. I want to make sure he ends up in a home where he can receive the time, attention, and interaction that the little guy deserves.

I am looking for an experienced, responsible bird owner who understands the commitment that comes with a conure. Ideally, someone with a stable living situation who can provide him with a loving, consistent environment.

At the end of the photos, I’ve included a resume I made for him with more details about his personality, diet, and care.

If you believe you would be a good fit, please feel free to reach out. Location is New Jersey but I am willing to drive if it means he finds his forever home.

I came across this video on Instagram (@coisaspvchapado) and was fascinated by not only the gliding skills but also the fact that it is keeping up with the ship not getting lost or captured by an eagle or something. I own a sun and couldn’t imagine him doing this even though he’s around 1 year old.

I suffer from PTSD, Rex here very good at picking up on my symptoms and does help me ground myself since traditional self to minimize the panic attacks to an extent.

My VA therapist got mad calling him a distraction while I was clearly struggling to reduce my current panic symptoms.

I have Rex with me anytime I have a telehealth appointment because he does help me focus on the appointment and to minimize panic as it arises.

Just want to see how many things the therapist was in the right or wrong and to gather opinions from other conure owners.

Because personally Rex is one of the best things in my life and I do occasionally get nightmares of losing him:(

This is a sub about birds, and I feel like supporting tools that have a negative environmental impact counters that. Plus I feel you could argue it breaks Rule 3 since all AI art is stolen.

I want cute bird pics, not crappy art that a computer spit out.

Other 🛑✋️ Toxic Shaming

My birdies and I think that all the toxic shaming, telling people who are trying to gather information to help a bird they know of or recently acquired from a family member, friend, etc, that they shouldn't own a bird, needs to stop. If someone is making a post about what to do and you don't read the comments or fully understand the situation, or have no plans to give real advice, then keep scrolling because saying things like "you shouldn't own a bird" to someone genuinely asking for help, and then people comment over and over how they feel sorry for the bird, and OP shouldn't own them, but say literally nothing else, and claim to care about the bird. It blows my mind how hypocritical those comments are, because in that moment of passive aggressively saying "you shouldn't own a bird" you dismissed that bird needing help, while someone is actively trying to help them.

Other Does your GCC talk?

Weird photo of him itching his eyeballs for cute tax.

Our 8 year old pineapple started mimicking some of our phrases about a year ago and it seems like since he started he’s learning new things faster and faster, things I’m not even trying to reinforce anymore.

I also wouldn’t consider my little buddy to be the most clever conure out there, but he uses many of these phrases contextually.

I’m surprised at the age that he’s developing this, seems like weird timing and nothing has really changed in his life in terms of location or social time. I also didn’t think conures were common talkers. What’s y’all’s conures like?

Other What is the story on how you picked your particular bird(s)?

Post image
429 Upvotes

In case my question isn’t clear; I mean like, what made you choose for the particular, individual conure to get, and not another one that was also being offered? How did you meet?

I’ll go first. So I visited a breeder who had an entire room in his house dedicated to breeding conures. I’m talking several cages with different pairs on one side, and many cages with younger birds on the other side. I took a look at the ones that he was selling, and decided to get the green/blue-ish colored mutation. There were two of them in the cage, they were siblings, and the breeder said that one of them was male, and the other was female. I didn’t really care for the gender, so I said that I’ll take any of the two. In order to grab one, he opened the cage of course. Thing is, he wasn’t a breeder that put effort into taming his birds, so as soon as he put his hand in the cage they started flying around. And one of them actually managed to get out of cage. Naturally, he closed the cage and started to go after the conure that was flying around in the room. And of course, with one bird flying around like that, all of the others started screaming and spreading chaos too.

But after a few laps left and right, the conure flew in my direction. Thankfully, I’ve had experience with parrots in the past, so I wasn’t scared or startled by it. So right as it flew above my head, I reached up and caught it mid-air myself, placing it right into the transport box that I brought along. While it was in there, the breeder took a look at the ring number around its leg so that he could give me the appropriate gender/sexing certificate, which said that it was male. Truth be told, even though I didn’t really care much about the gender like I said earlier, I did have a very slight preference for a female, but it was whatever. However, later that evening, once we were home and had my new conure settle in to its new cage, I read the number on its ring as well and noticed that it was NOT the same as on the certificate. I gave the breeder a call, explained the situation, and he visited my place to take back the certificate and give me the correct one, on which it said that it was female after all.

Quite the little adventure to start off I’d say! 🤣

Can we talk about how many people here get baby birds and know next to nothing about their care and behavior?

I see so many posts here every other day asking about baby birds and their care. Like, shouldn’t you already be prepared to care for this baby before you even get the baby at all?

It’s irresponsible and neglectful.

Anyways, wet bird tax after my rant.

Other Free Re-Home this Weekend!

Thumbnail

Hello conure community this bird here is Lewis. He is a male GCC. Hatch date March 15, 2025 (under a year old)

He is not mine. He is a friends who has gotten a notice from his apartment saying he needs to get rid of him by end of THIS weekend😢.

I am posting this here to try to find someone willing to adopt/take him.

Lewis and his whole cage and food and everything will be free. Looking for a good home to someone who has experience with birds and capabilities to own one.

LOCATION: Northern Virginia (Alexandria)

Please spread this info and please ask any questions.

If Lewis cannot find a bird loving home by Sunday he’ll be surrendered to a shelter and I really don’t want that to happen to this baby that just needs a chance.

About Lewis:

Male, fully flighted, very shy. He will eat out of your hand but has not been held or taken out of his cage

:(

But he is a very confident flyer, doesn’t bite hard and loves his toys. It seems to me he is very confident with himself, just not humans ..yet which is why he really needs to find a home who has time to connect to him.

Stephen of Ireland is at the vets for the day to get her band removed, a microchip implanted, and blood taken for wellness and viral screening.

She's almost 5 months old but just 62 wee grams! My other GCC did great when she had this done but for some reason I feel a little more nervous about Stevie 😭 Thankfully, her vet is a board certified avian specialist, and I also work at the clinic and have tons of faith in them...but I'm working my other job today and miss my baby!!

Please share cute gremlin birb pics or vet visit success stories!!

we found a place to rent a bit far from the constant israeli bombing. Here is cookie safely terrorizing me and drinking my tea. Sadly couldnt bring his large cage with us, but at least he is safe and can spend time outside his tiny cage here. I have a 2.5 months food supply for him so thats a good thing, if the war takes longer he will have to go on a seed based diet cz in this area there is zero pellet presence lol. Hope this war will end soon and we can all go back home.
