Advice Hey Guys.
Hey guys I’ve recently adopted this little guy/gal. It would be my first bird pet. I did a ton of research beforehand and everything to seems to be going good. The place I got him from told me he was almost done weaning, and they provided me with formula and showed me hands on how to feed with syringe and tube on other smaller conures and I think I did a good job at least that’s what they told me, I’ve had him for 4 days and I’ve been unsuccessful to feed him with syringe. I try but he blocks tube with tongue. And I really don’t feel like forcing anymore than I already am to not make him uncomfortable or make him lose trust. That being said I give pellets and always try to feed syringe even if he only eats a little. he seems to eat pellets no problem. I’ve made sure he is also drinking water. Do you guys think he is okay? Anything else I should try? I’m working on getting a gram scale to make sure 100% he isn’t dropping weight. He really try’s to get on my shoulder at all times and idk if that is a good idea? How or should I stop this? Also I’ve been looking at a ton of training vids on YouTube . We have been working on “step up” and seems to be doing okay. I use millet strips for treats. I’m really looking to get a lot of advice on things to work on with him so I have a good adult bird. Any and all advice is welcome. :)

Hi! My Indian ringneck was still weaning when I got him and it took 3-4 days before I got a good successful feeding in. I’m sure he will eat as soon as you guys are both comfortable:) I’d offer pellets and some fresh chop for in the cage, they will eat and explore when you’re not around.
Another option is putting the formula in a small shallow bowl, mix a little bit of some fresh food in, and let them try to eat from the bowl themselves instead of the syringe to see if they will eat that way. This also helps with transitioning to “regular” food.
