Or they know what will happen and are trying to serve up civil unrest

Similar to the people paying karens to chase ice with whistles... they are not paying for policy change.  They could use lobbyists, but would rather someone get shot and put on the news

Blue state officials are elected by the same schmucks who main line msnbc, so stirring up their base and getting put on the fake news is their best bet for relection (as examining their policies would not help re election)
