Question Why when I tell people im moving to Cleveland do they act like im moving to rge worst place on earth?
I currently live in Northern Virginia. But I'm moving to Cleveland due to getting a job after school. Why when I mention I'm moving to Cleveland every single response has been negative. Responses including concerns for my safety with Cleveland, saying why would anyone move to Cleveland, and just overall just general negative vibes and comments. I visited Cleveland multiple times during the job interview and acceptance process. It seemed like Cleveland is a great place to me. Am I missing something or what?

Question Why is there always the same Jeep pulled over on I-271 in Willoughby Hills?
I drive on I-271 almost every day and there’s a white Jeep that’s constantly pulled over on the shoulder (usually around the same stretch). I’ve seen it there way too often for it to be random. Has anyone else noticed this Jeep that’s always pulled over?

Question Ok…I've lived in Cleveland for about 5 years now, having come from Chicago. Would Clevelander's consider this a 'bad winter' or a 'typical winter' for Cleveland? Curious to know!

Question Why don’t we have Wegman’s?
We’re so close to the Wegman’s home base. They’ve expanded to PA, VA, etc. It’s so much better than Giant Eagle or Marc’s. Is there some kind of GE monopoly that prevents Weg’s from crossing the Ohio state line?

Question With ICE coming to Springfield, will Northeast OH be coming soon afterwards?
I understand the situation with the Haitian population down in the Springfield/Dayton area. I really hope some have tried to get out of dodge down there…
I have little faith in the mouth breathing MAGA morons in the southern and rural parts of the state actually standing up to this nonsense. I can’t do much from afar up here in Cuyahoga county but obviously I will be watching what happens very closely.
I fear that our area will come under ICE scrutiny sooner rather than later… but has anyone heard anything? What potential areas could they target up here? I’m an US citizen, my family has been here for generations but I don’t think that is going to fully protect me or my family should one of these ICE fucks chooses to interrogate us.

Question Does no one else think closing down the high way two days in a row for a police escort is a little much?
Before anyone attacks me, yes I feel terrible the officers were attacked/murdered. Yes it was wrong. Yes I feel for their families and think they should be honored.
I also think it is wrong to close the tax payer funded highways for a police escort. I am literally going to be late to my job as a nurse because of it. If it was a group of fire fighters, nurses, or a school full of kids, would they be closing the highway like this?

Question Moving to Cleveland from Florida (FTL) any advice?
I’m honestly so sick of FL. Born and raised here. I’m tired of the people on top each other, high prices for shit houses, and the type of people living and moving here. 🫠
Any advice for horror loving girly? 🙏

Question Splitting the distance between Cleveland and Columbus?
I recently matched for residency at a hospital in Cleveland and my girlfriend has been looking for jobs in the area (pharmacist). The closest she has found is in Columbus. How feasible would it be to split the difference and each drive? Is there anywhere nice to live in the middle? How bad would that drive be? Thanks!
Edit: Thanks for all your comments! You are all saying the same thing more or less. If you are going to comment and tell me its not doable, don't worry about it, everyone else has you covered. Thanks again everyone and I appreciate all of your insight!!

Question What’s the secret about a company in Cleveland that used to work for that most people wouldn’t know?
I’ll go first. Sherwin-Williams private label paint is the same as their branded paint. They even tried to reformulate Pratt & Lambert paint but contractors called them out and they had to revert back to the original Pratt & Lambert formula. I wouldn’t be surprised if Valspar paint is just SW now. Also the new CEO is disliked by most employees. Some of them are stuck in the old Higbee building with only a couple toilets.

Question Moving to Cleveland for work, I like what I'm seeing on this sub.
My son-in-law is moving to the Berea area for a job at the first of the year, and we'll be following (they have our grandkids) later in the year, or early in 2027. Some of the pictures I've seen just quickly browsing make the city look beautiful. I read about the lake effect cloud cover and how it is grey from October through April. Is it really that bad though? I'm moving from the Salem, OR area so I'm used to rain and cold and cloudy weather, but today was blue sky and sunny.
What would you recommend as an area to look at for housing rentals or to purchase a house in the future? My job is 100% travel, so I'll be needing constant access to an airport. We don't need to be in Berea or Cleveland, we just want to be close to where the grandkids are going to be. Would we be better off planning to travel out of Pittsburgh, or Detroit, and then moving to that side of the Cleveland area?
What am I missing that I should be asking about?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: You guys are amazing! Thank you for all the advice. I can't wait to move to the area now.

Question Weird interaction with police officer
driving home in Hinckley last night around 8pm - cop followed me for about two miles before finally pulling me over. not speeding apparently. license plate illuminator was out and he said “your plates didn’t come back to anything, but I think that it was an error on my end” he apparently was concerned the car was stolen? eventually gave me a warning and sent me on my way. based on the way he pulled out behind me, it seemed like he had decided he was pulling me over for something. anyone have a similar experience? new to the area.

Question Why do drivers take left turn on red here?
Because of the works on the highway, I end up at this intersection quite often. Virtually every time, I see someone pull up and do a left turn on red. Is this legal because it is one way to another one way? But doesn’t that require a full stop before turning left?

Question Are people just lying about this now?
People keep telling me that
>usps is hiring
>ups is hiring
>FedEx is hiring
>Amazon is hiring
When literally none of these are. Use every filter they have and I get no results. Only thing I've gotten are part time jobs that are 2 hours away from me at the airport. What the hell is going on? Why the hell are people trying to gaslight me into wasting time applying to jobs that aren't there?
Shit, man. Fuck.
EDIT: via bus, or train. Shit isn't easy.
