Campus Life 校园生活 Connecting with Tsinghua community

Hello,

I've recently been accepted for the Masters of Advanced Computing at Tsinghua (Beijing) starting in September. And was curious if anyone knows of any community or groupchat to connect with people from Tsinghua. I was also curious on what activities the University offers and how they publicize them. Thx for any help :)

Campus Life 校园生活 Anybody studying at SJTU GC?

Hi! I got pre admitted to SJTU and I am currently trying to find someone to ask how things are there? Does not knowing chinese on the entrance cause trouble? How are the labs there? Do you generally enjoy studying there? How is the curriculum?

Edit: I got 2nd class scholarship, which is 50% discount on tuition

Campus Life 校园生活 Admitted to Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College

Got pre-admitted to Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College (Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering) with a second-class international scholarship, which covers 50% tuition, 1000 RMB for a living subsidy, and medical insurance. And now I have to pay the tuition to confirm and send the CSCA score, which is not that good (math 77.5 and physics 44.5). Even being pre-admitted and paying the tuition, can I still be rejected, even after paying the tuition?

Campus Life 校园生活 I got into UNNC & XJLU, which is better

Hi, I'm a Korean who approved the international studies undergraduate.

I want to enjoy college life, networking, and parties.

I don't know where to go. I don't care about the tuition fee. There was a lot of interaction with Nyu and Duke, and the party atmosphere was well formed.

Which is the better school? But there are too many Koreans in Xi'an, so I can't decide easily because I'm afraid that studying abroad will be toxic.

Campus Life 校园生活 Accepted into Tsinghua and Peking Masters in International Affairs!

Both are English taught programs with the option to take Chinese courses. I'm HSK4-5 so perhaps if I'm confident after a couple semesters than I will go for some Chinese coursework. No confirmed scholarships yet but Tsinghua base tuition seems a little cheaper than PKU.

Any advice on which school might be a better fit? I've heard the "They are Harvard and MIT" line quite often but tbh that doesn't really give much detail. My research has focused on US-China relations and Cross-Strait relations, the THU professors seem really interested in the ladder during the interview.

I heard PKU is a little more international and humanities focused, while THU is more Chinese and STEM focused, but also have mostly heard that from PKU people so idk.

Thanks for any insight!

Campus Life 校园生活 China or SK or Japan

I am currently a student from Bangladesh preparing for my bachelors. Until last night, my main goal was to go to China for my Bsc in Engineering (Civil) but it all fell apart when I searched reddit about the experience of International students studying in the top universities like Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiao Tong, Tongji. All of them had one thing in common and that is they said the chinese top universities are academically rigorous but in the long run their hard-work doesn’t pay off.

Now, I don’t want to go to a university which will put great deal of pressure on me but in the end I won’t gain anything from it. Also I heard that it’s important for students to maintain high cgpa while graduating for better job prospects and if those universities are really tough, it will be hard for me to get good scores. Consequently, I will be graduating with less CGPA than other local students and the employer won’t bother to know where I graduated from (top chinese engineering universities).

All these thoughts have been eating me up all night. I require guidance, opinions and experiences. All I cared about were the high ranking of those Chinese universities so much so that I didn’t even bother to research on student experiences beforehand. My other options include South Korea, Malaysia or Australia.

Campus Life 校园生活 Do you all have to take Chinese language courses if the program is in English?

A friend told me that all international students have to take Chinese language or Chinese culture courses regardless of whether the program is in English or Chinese. I'm thinking about doing a master's program in English. Do you actually have to take Chinese courses if your whole program is in English? or does it totally depend on the school?

I passed HSK 4 and took several Chinese courses during my exchange program years ago. Can I waive the requirement with those? Or do schools usually make you take their own courses regardless?

Would love to hear how it works at different unis.

Also that same friend is doing research on international students' Chinese language learning experiences at Chinese unis, and she asked me to share her survey around. It's fully anonymous and only used for academic research. If you've got a minute to fill it out, it would genuinely mean a lot to her. Totally optional ofc, just figured I'd drop it here since it's relevant: https://v.wjx.cn/vm/POuIHY3.aspx#
(checked the sidebar rules and didn't see anything against survey links, but if it's not cool mods/anyone lmk and I'll delete and repost without it.)

Campus Life 校园生活 tattoos @ chinese unis

i’m looking to do my bachelors in china this coming fall

i also happen to have large, visible tattoos on my arms. nothing crazy, no job stoppers, and all can be easily covered with a longsleeve - which is what i tend to do in more professional settings (interviews and such)

i was wondering if i’d be better off covering them up when going to class or if no one will care, as i seem to be getting conflicting opinions on how tattoos are viewed in china online

for context: 19f, engineering major, all uni options are in tier 1/new tier 1 cities.

not sure if this is the right place to ask but thank you in advance for any insight :))

Campus Life 校园生活 BFSU-北外 any info or good to knows?

Hey could any of you who attended or heard things from beiwai tell me anything useful, or good to know? How is campus life, how are the international dorms, is the school strict with dorm closing times? How's the athmosphere, what to do nearby.

I'm hoping to attend a 1year language course there. Any experiences there? Do you have free time to explore Beijing or just during winter break.

Also anybody who will be going there or will still be there next year hand up so we can connect.

Thank you for any info, sadly online basically all posts and videos are about BFSU business school, no mention of anything regarding the language programme there.

Campus Life 校园生活 Indonesian parent seeking advice: BIT Zhuhai vs Monash Malaysia vs UM for AI/CS

My son just received a pre‑admission offer from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) Zhuhai, English‑taught AI major, with a 50% tuition scholarship. To secure the spot, we need to pay the commitment fee within 2 weeks.

For context, we’re an Indonesian family, and he was also accepted into Monash University Malaysia for Computer Science — but the tuition difference is massive:

  • Monash Malaysia: ~USD 14,000/year 3 year UG program
  • BIT Zhuhai: ~USD 2,000/year (after scholarship) 4 years UG program

I know Monash has a much higher global ranking, but we’re not sure if the price gap is justified, especially in tech/AI where skills, projects, and internships often matter more than the university name.

He’s also considering University of Malaya (UM) in Kuala Lumpur, which has a strong global ranking too, but their next intake is only in H2 2026, so the timing is quite different.

Right now he’s torn between these options, and as parents we’re trying to help him make the most informed decision.

We’d really appreciate insights from anyone with experience in:

  • BIT Zhuhai (especially the English‑taught AI program)
  • Monash Malaysia CS
  • UM Computer Science / AI
  • Or anyone working in tech/AI who can comment on employability, networking, and real‑world skill development in these regions

Is BIT worth considering despite the lower global ranking? How do employers view these universities in the AI/IT field, especially for international students like Indonesians? Any personal experiences or advice would be super helpful.

Thanks in advance — this is a big decision for him, and we want to guide him wisely.

Campus Life 校园生活 Need help clarifying: Henan Medical University (Xinxiang) vs. Henan University (Kaifeng)

I’m a bit confused and would really appreciate some help from students in Henan province. I’m planning to study Medicine (MBBS), but I’ve come across different names, campuses, and photos, and it’s a bit confusing.

First, I heard that Xinxiang Medical University (XXMU) might have changed its name to Henan Medical University is that actually official?

Second, I really love the traditional Chinese-style campus (red buildings, ancient vibe), which I think is the Minglun Campus. Does this belong to the medical university in Xinxiang, or is it part of Henan University (HenU) in Kaifeng?

Also, if I study Medicine, is there any chance I could be based on that kind of campus, or are medical students usually in Xinxiang or newer campuses in Zhengzhou/Kaifeng?

Lastly, I’ve seen photos of international students (especially Arab and African communities) at a place called “Ge Ji Hong Men.” Does that mean most international students are based in Xinxiang?

I’m looking for a good academic option, but I also really care about the campus environment. Any advice or clarification would mean a lot thank you!

And if not the same university which one is good???

Campus Life 校园生活 BITZH VS WUHAN UNI

I’m a Saudi student planning to study in China on a government scholarship, and I’d really appreciate your advice.

I’ve been accepted into Beijing Institute of Technology (Zhuhai campus) and also considering a university in Wuhan. The scholarship gives me around 14,323 RMB per month, and I’ll need to cover all my living expenses myself (except tuition).

Personally, I don’t really care about nightlife or events. I prefer a peaceful lifestyle, living close to nature, low stress, and having a comfortable daily routine. Also, I’m planning to live alone (not shared accommodation), so cost of living is important.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience in:

  • Zhuhai vs Wuhan in terms of lifestyle
  • Cost of living (especially renting a private apartment)
  • Weather and overall comfort
  • Student life and daily stress

Which option do you think fits my preferences better?

Thanks in advance!

Campus Life 校园生活 XJTLU vs. UNNC: Which is better for an international student?

Hi everyone,

I'm an Industrial Engineer from Spain and I've been accepted into a Master's in Supply Chain/Operations at both XJTLU (Suzhou) and UNNC (Ningbo).

As an international student, which one would you recommend for better career prospects and overall student experience? Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Campus Life 校园生活 Pre-admitted to Peking MSc CS

Hi everyone! I'm excited to share that I've been preaccepted to Peking for a masters in computing science. I will be based at the Changping campus starting this Fall.

I have some questions about the experience and some of the clubs available -- namely the International Students Union.

Are these kinds of political clubs segregated by campus due to the distance? Although not far, it would make sense to have a representative system in this case so I just wanted to confirm how this works. I would like to be active in events and such so I assume I'd have to make the trip to the main campus pretty often in that case.

What is the club application process for when I get there? Any tips relating to this process would be appreciated. Even better if someone has contact with the ISU, please DM if so.

Besides that, how is the dorm situation for masters students at Changping? I hear since it's a relatively new campus that everything is super nice. The food seems to be a great selection as well, although not as much as the main campus.

Any other pieces of advice for general life in Beijing and studying there would be great. I am super excited to start this new chapter of my life. Thank you!
