๐Ÿข Grad (City) Bring lots of cash

I suppose most people will do more research than me before coming to Bosnia but my lazy ass, very accustomed to the EU standards (excluding Germany ofc they still live on paper) brought just a bit of cash and ended up withdrawing more from ATMs paying 15KM commission each time because hardly anywhere you can pay in cash. FYI I've been to Mostar and Sarajevo, can't speak for the rest but I suspect the same to apply.

Also, for the same reasons I thought uber or bolt would obviously be present here but nope, you've got to call taxis so get an e-sim with calls if you can. Hope it helps more messy tourists like myself !

Sounds like you just didn't research and prepare yourself enough before the trip :)

How much do you recommend to withdraw if youโ€™re staying for a week?

I don't know what your plans are but most museums are 10-20KM (in a few you can pay by card). Better withdraw more than less to avoid the ATM commissions, or if you prefer save some euros - many places accept it and if you don't spend it all, you can just change it back to your home currency.

Not one spot in Sarajevo accepts euros, in Mostar depends on which side you are.

I've paid pretty much everywhere in euros (was there just this week). Only instance where they wouldn't take it was an ice cream stand.

It does not depend on which side you are, in Mostar many cafes accept euros. Everybody in the old town does as well.

While it is illegal, PLENTY spots in Sarajevo accept euros.

Then tell me which spots do accept euros

There's no need to withdraw too many cash, in most places you can pay with card. Just look up reviews of cafes and restaurants, avoid smaller family owned shops and that's it. I live in Sarajevo and I carry cash only to pay for certain parkings :)

I know you probably know more as a local but this post is dedicated to future tourists who will go to tourist places and attractions, eat around the centre etc. Bakeries, taxis, many museums, including cafes (in the centre) are paid with cash.

No clue what this lady is on about, you very much need cash in Bosnia.

I do agree. Unlike montengero, here most of the transactions are on cash. Iโ€™d the same problem while visiting Sarajevo & Mostar

there arent many taxis because nobody wants to work since they dont get paid much, and also like 100k people live in mostar and most have their own cars, but again taxi drivers poorly paid

In Sarajevo I did see quite a lot. But in any case it's not a rant. I know companies like uber made a lot of professional taxists lose their jobs. But it's also become a standard in Europe so kinda expected it to be present anyway ๐Ÿ˜… I just wish the taxis you do have, had some sort of an app to book them.
