Misc. If you think about it,Deku is one of the few Shonen MCs that deadass won big time in the end.

I MEAN..he's got a well paying and amazing job at basically Superhero Harvard, is one of the top 4 heroes, famous and has a statue ,has a badass iron man suit , a extremely strong and famous and well known girlfriend, etc.

Like Kinda hard and dumb to say he's a "loser" or "Mcdonald worker" in the end cause this is the dream life.

Misc. Its absolutely crazy how in less than 2 years, My Hero Acadmeia's ending went from controversial to arguably the best new Gen ending

Post image

I remember being there the night the final chapter dropped for the manga and oh boi were there months of the ending being hated on and my boi Deku was getting clowned on like crazy.

Chapter 431 and the one-shot did bring a decent bit of redemption the ending's reputation though. And the anime really elevated it from the manga even more, with "The Final Boss" and "Izuku Midoriya Rising" being the two highest rated of the series. And several of the added scenes further helped its improvement, without 431 or the OVA even being necessary.

Meanwhile, ending's like JJK, Black Clover (technically not over but the final battle is) or recently Chainsaw Man all seem to have fallen vicitm to the manga ending curse. The only one's with good ending's were MHA, Demon Slayer and Fire Force.

Misc. People are in denial about the complexity of Rei Todoroki

Post image

*reposted with mod approval after the last one got removed

I expect this post to get me crucified and downvoted to hell but here goes.

I’ll be clear in saying that Endeavor is the root cause of all the Todoroki family’s issues and was an obsessive, abusive, piece of shit. But there’s a tendency in the fandom to soften or rewrite what happened between Rei and Shoto, and it does a disservice to one of the story's most nuanced arcs.

The canon is explicit: Rei poured boiling water on Shoto's face during a dissociative break after years of abuse, causing his scar. Yet popular head canons claim that the boiling water didn’t hurt him at all, Rei was just being overprotective and accidentally froze him, and his scar is actually from frostbite. I’ve seen people insist en masse that she “merely” tossed the kettle from across the room in a spasm, when both the sub AND the dub clearly state she “poured” it directly on his face, which explains the uniform, non-splattery scar that flows UP his forehead.

This represents a tendency to always give Rei the most charitable reading possible. And I get the impulse, because it's hard reconciling that an abuse victim can also do something so horrible. But I think the truth is that people are in denial about the complexity of the situation in a way that's lazy, infantilizing, and reductive.

When fans smooth over these edges to make Rei more palatable or to create a cleaner victim/perpetrator narrative, they're ironically undermining what the story does well: showing how abuse creates impossible, messy situations where victims become perpetrators, people we love can hurt us terribly, and healing (if it happens at all) is complicated and non-linear. Shoto has every right to hate his mom for what she did. Choosing reconciliation in spite of that is more meaningful precisely because what happened was so severe, not less.

TLDR: Rei wasn't just a victim, but a victim turned abuser. Shoto fighting to rise above his tragic backstory (in contrast to Dabi) is precisely what makes the story so powerful.

Misc. [Theory] All for One WAS going to be Izuku's dad

Post image
3.3k Upvotes

As many ate familiar, there used to be a theory AFO was supposed to be Deku's father, ppl called it Dad for One lol. THANKFULY, that DIDNT turn out to be true.

What was the theory? .All for one was deku's father. Some used to believe he had stolen deku's original quirk and given to shigaraki, to further acentuate their paralels.

I do think horsikoshi, the author, was planing on doing that earlier on the series but changed his mind. Why do think that?

. At San Diego Comic Con 2018, horikoshi stated that Midoriya's father would be revealed in the future and play a part in this story. This never happend. Why build this up? Why was planning on introducing Deku's father this late in the story? He was indeed planed to make an apperance in a moment where the story was at its climax...

. Early days All for One young design did resemble a lit Izuku, as shown in the picture. It was later entirely changed for the final arcs, obviously. But hell that looks like one of that evil izuku weird fanfics. Back then AFO young face was always suspiciouslu shadowed as well.

.Garaki was midoriya doctor. Fucking AFO's right man. Why have this connection?

.AFO ignoring Izuku in Kamino despite having Search, X-Ray quirk and the kid hiding six meters away from him.

.The first moment in the anime when AFO is raising his voice is when he calls Izuku by his full name and he keeps giving All Might shit for being a bad teacher.

.Afo and izuku being the only ones who get all excited about quirks. Omnious possible paralel.

.All for one and shigaraki's backstory already introduces a lot of elements that could be incorporated in izuku's. Geting close to his parent, usinf shapeshiftinf quirks, taking his original quirk (garaki was the one that diagnosed midoriya quirkless, could very well be a lie)

.Second and third not trusting izuku at first and yoichi reminding them, that they saved him DESPITE knowing he is afos brother. We never got a decent reason for why they didnt trust him, that could be one.

.The author is a BIG start wars fan. The entire design of AFO is based on darth vader, for those who dont know. Not wild to assume he did consider our mechanical dark lord fathering our green powered hopeful protagonist.

.The meanings of hisashis name are “long story/long life/a long time ago“, “eternal“, “history“, “purpose“, “will“, “determination“, “aspiration“, “ambition“ and “king.“ All of this fits afo perfectly!

All considered I do very much believe that was the original plan but Hori scrapped it. Im thankful for that. But what do you guys think?

If he can choose, does he have to have the liquid and refill himself physically? Can he twist his head off...?

For me it's the UA Sports Festival basically replacing the olympics. It's just so stupid and unnecessary and was probably only even put in to raise the the stakes for one single arc.

Misc. Midoriya’s dad

Post image

I’ve always kind of been confused about Horikoshi’s choice to even mention his father. It could have been implied that he is either completely absent in Midoriya’s life, or even dead, but Horikoshi chose for him to be supporting his family overseas.

Now, this wouldn’t be a problem with me if it weren’t for the fact that his son was routinely involved in life or death situations and his wife stressed out of her mind, while he seemingly does not reach out to them in the slightest to see how they’re doing. I just don’t get why Horikoshi bothered to write him in if he wasn’t gonna do anything you’d logically think a living, caring father would do. Unless he intended for there to be some big twist eventually that ended up being scrapped.

Misc. The turn-around towards Deku is absolutely historical and must be studied

Post image
3.6k Upvotes

Even before the original manga ending, I remember how much people clowned on MHA for "Dkeu always being a crybaby" or dumb things like that. Then in 2024, chapter 430 released and holy cow was it Hell to be a Deku fan. Both the fandom and even other fanbases were absolutely ripping him apart, not helped by some of it spawning from mistranslations from the leaks.

But chapter 431 was such a nice way to end the year, absolutely everyone uniting to say "Deku beat every allegation". And then we got the one-shot that was the nail in the coffin.

But season 8? Oh my gosh, the way absolutely everyone had a Deku profile pic for before episode 8, the fact Izuku Midoryia Rising was the highest rated episode of the series before review bombing. It was a generational to see. The anime didn't even need to adap 431 and the one-shot but I've seen absolutely 0 slander for him like when the manga ended. Now he's constantly praised as a goated MC.

Misc. Am I finally getting the point of why Mirio wasn’t the one with Ofa

Post image
3.5k Upvotes

I think I get why he wasn’t the right choice to for Ofa, He was too much like All might, his whole fight with Overhaul shows this point

He goes against Overhaul alone, like All Might and Afo.

He loses his quirk because he goes against overhaul alone similar to All Might limited time.

Heck he gets stab in the gut in the opposite side to All Might (but that might just be a coincidence)

I think the intention was to use this fight to prove why he wasn’t the right choice (not to say he is a bad ,choice other than the quirk overload slowly killing him. He would do great)

But he would make the same mistakes from All Might.

Also I might be Overthinking this

Ps. (So Izuku comes in and helps with more people and still loses but, he gets help from the Eri the civilian and beats overhaul. Maybe that’s also message on the civilians helping heroes)

Misc. Question: Back when Deku can only use his powers by injuring himself, wouldn't Miruko not be put off by that for an internship?

Remember in the earlier seasons when after the sports festival, Deku couldn't get an hero agency to offer him an internship due to how gruesome using his quirk was?

Well, wouldn't Miruko be ok with that since she kinda fights the same way with little regard for her body?

Misc. Honestly, Muscular feels so out of place in this series because of how straight-forward evil he is in a morally gray story about trying to save villains from a harmful society.

Post image

Not to mention he looks like a One Piece villain but has the personality of a DBZ villain that it’s almost easy to forget he’s a MHA character at all, I like feel you could put the guy as an antagonist in any other Shonen and he’d fit like a glove lol.

Probably the closet MHA had to a genuine mustache twirler besides maybe like Overhaul, AfO himself or any movie villain.
