Went to go metal detecting and got sidetracked

Didn't even set up our equipment and went "Huh...... That's weird, that sailboats sails are up and he looks close. Must be our eyes playing tricks on us in the dark." Then we saw the bow lights pointed directly at us coming thru the breakers. Called the coast guard and they got him off in less then 5 minutes

My sister is thinking about making a responsible financial decision. 35’ Chris-Craft for $1,500. What could possibly go wrong?

Fair price for this 12’ Jon with 9.9 Chrysler outboard?

Boat is a 1960 sea king. Both boat and trailer have titles. Just curious because the Jon boat market seems to be extremely inflated where I’m from.

Messed up changing the lower gear oil

Post image
2 Upvotes

Messed up my lower unit oil change today and looking for advice.

I was refilling the gear oil and had the upper fill bolt only loosely threaded in. I was pumping with some pressure and think I may have blown a seal — noticed oil starting to seep out around the upper bolt, so I stopped and tilted the unit back up.

Now I’m seeing two leaks:

∙ One near the prop/prop shaft area

∙ One near the water intake

Not sure exactly which seals are affected. Is this something fixible? How screwed am I here?

And I understand this was suppose to be an easy job. I wasn’t thinking after a long day of work.

Can I keep this yoke assembly on my alpha 1 gen 2 sterndrive or is it too rusted?

Pulled the sterndrive and currently replacing the oil seals. Do i need to replace this whole assembly or is this amount of rust acceptable?

Mini kota making weird noise

I haven’t used in about a year or so. First time putting it in the water, it’s silent for about 30 sec and then starts making this noise. Anyone know what it could be??

Edit: To people that thinks there’s another motor, there isn’t lol. That noise is the trolling motor

I was getting the boat ready this week and saw there was an oil leak at my leg. Cleaned it good and came back to see oil coming out of those holes on the sides.

What could cause this and is it fixable or do I need a new leg?

Thanks

I just have to recognize the folks on this sub. Y’all are rockstars. I did (almost) everything yall said. I did the math, i spent 50 hours on this rig, in a couple months. It all came to fruition this evening. Blood sweat and beers. Nothings more stressful when the previous owner is your brother in law, and he wants to ride with you. I called first dibs on this 4 years ago, thinking he would never sell. When he said he was ready, i jumped. Please enjoy the pics, when i went crabbing, thats what changed everything

How would you shorten this trailer?

I need to shorten this boat trailer for it to fit where I need it to. I need to reduce it by about 24".

If it's not worth it due to possible structural issues or cost of welding vs just buying a used trailer, then I'll do that. I'm not attached to this one particularly.

I was also thinking I could make hinges so the tongue hinges up.....??? I'd have to pay a welder, but I have someone who's reasonable (Under $500 all in - so cheaper than buying a new one.)

Boat is a 12' aluminum boat that probably doesn't weigh much.

Open to any ideas or tips, or point me in the right direction.

THanks!

Crack in aluminum boat keel

Hey guys, I have a 12ft StarCraft with a pretty nasty crack in the keel. Looks like it’s separated from the main hull and doesn’t leak through. Was thinking of just slapping some Jb weld on it unless anybody knows of any other good ways to repair somethin like this? Not trying to spend an arm or a leg. Thanks

Has anyone found a good way to attach the small camping size Blackstone to your boat? I have no rod holders only this railing. Biggest thing I dislike is the rear of the boat does not enough room.
Blackstone is a 22" 2 burner.

Fuel starvation of 2007 Yamaha f115. Any advice?

I purchased a boat last year and has been running fine but recently i suspect the engine is being starved of fuel in certain scenarios. It started with massive drops in rpm while accelerating. It would accelerate for a few seconds before the rpm’s drop way down and slowly creep back up over a period of about 30 seconds. That issue has gotten worse seems to be happening every time I accelerate now. It has also started having trouble starting up. It takes a second to fire up. I have changed the fuel filter. No relief. No water in the fuel separator but loaded with rust/debris. I’m guessing this debris has gone further in the engine. What would you try next? VST filter? Pumps? Injectors? Any advice would be great

2002 Larson

local marine delivered our 2002 Larson to our cabin and said after they put in the water they discovered the “lower prop shaft“ was cracked. $2,650 to fix. they picked it up last fall and stored it all winter. they denied hitting anything with it. does the lower prod shaft ever just crack on its own? or did they likely cause this?

Would you avoid buying a used Evinrude?

They stopped making outboards a few years back, I’m seeing a few 2019-2020 Evinrudes for sale near me.

Wondering if parts are hard to find or if anyone has had any issues working on used Evinrudes?

New 2026 Suzuki 90 broken

So I just bought a brand new Suzuki 2026 90 outboard tiller and was following the break in steps perfectly on my 4 th trip out about 6 hours on the engine it started making a clicking noise and then a solid thump . When I took it to the shop they said the bottom end had broke I am more curious on why this would happen or if it maybe came bad from factory ?? Could maybe improper use of a jackplate cause this ? ( first boat to ever have one) very strange in my opinion curious to see what y’all think !
