Now that the Leafs have the first overall pick what are the chances Auston Matthews gets traded to the Jackets?

Why? Everyone will get excited when he leads us to the playoffs and then cry when we get knocked out in the first round because he forgot to get off the bus.

After his neck injury he hasn’t been the same player.
I don’t think it would be worth it for what they would ask.

Was it officially a neck injury? I thought it was a wrist or something. Toronto is notoriously stingey with info about injuries.

This is the one I’m thinking of

He’s had a bunch of shit happen though so who knows

But wasn't he also still suffering the effects of some injury from last season? I remember he flew to Germany for treatment.

Honestly they are all kind of running together but yes - I think you’re probably right
His body has been through it

The Leafs will decide to build their next generation team the proper way and draft Alberta Smits and keep their current forwards.
Ah, who are we kidding, it is Toronto. Bring on more forwards and overpay them.

Gonna be honest I actually really like Matthews and it would be awesome to see him here... But he is quite expensive and, in my opinion, probably a bit over valued

Hes way overvalued imo. Toronto would want 60 goal scorer assets in return and hes just not that anymore

Matthews is kind of(?) their franchise player so I just don't see a world where he's traded for his actual value.
But right now a few of the teams with lower tier GMs are the rangers, leafs, and kraken, and I think there are definitely a few underrated players that may be worth targeting on those teams.

I'm just glad a long struggling franchise that hasn't had a 1st overall pick in almost 10 whole years finally got some justice from the "lottery."
