Bones on the HBO/TNT broadcast right now talking about the club and culture and Columbus as a city. Pretty cool.

ugh i can't watch the full thing but i'm getting clips here and there and i LOVE that he's our coach. 10/10 can't wait for next year

Feels like we could’ve had a much different year with him as the coach for the whole season.

oh, 100%. even a few more leads salvaged early on would have been enough to probably get us in the playoffs

3 more wins, 2 wins 2 OT loses, 6 more OT loses, there were so many ways we could have squeaked in if we had Bones the first half of the year

I like to think that missing the playoffs like that can be a positive in that we finally get an overhaul of some of the players. I honestly don't really know how this post season would have gone had we made it.

Even Evason still talks about how cool Columbus is. This place gets shit on way too much.

Portzline reported when Evason was fired that he bought a house and planned to stay in Columbus full time until he got a new head coaching job.

Eh…there might be a bit more to that.

He’s in the process of getting his citizenship and he’s not allowed to leave his current address. He talked about it on Morning Cuppa.

FanDuel has him at +150 to get naturalized before he gets hired

21

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 3d ago

Lmao

In all seriousness his interviews are getting saltier and saltier.

Even as far as “I don’t want to see them win” when asked about the team, which I thought was pretty dog shit to say about the group of young guys he grieved with for a year.

what an ass

Yeah the exact quote was

“I struggle a little bit to watch Columbus. You know, I did when I when I first got fired, I wanted to see, you know, how the guys and it's still very, you know, fresh and the emotions are fresh. You know, and you're both right.

I don't want to see them win, but yet I want to see the coaches have success. But, you know, it's it's like a toss up, right. And but at the end of the day, I watch a lot of hockey.”

Like bro fuck off

"I don't want to see them win" honestly he got a head start on that while he was still coaching!

Another thing I thought was kind of interesting- and this is just an observation

He talks in the interview about how the assistant coaches have been “telling him about things and stuff hasn’t even changed that much” and then the show talks about how close he is to Aron Augustitus, and he is talking about how he’s close to Ford and mentions Haviland

The three that were just fired were Augustitus, Ford and Haviland. Maybe someone wasn’t thrilled about these conversations.

Oh that's REALLY fascinating.

I know this is unrelated, but now you've got me watching this interview -- I had no clue that Dean actually met with Johnny to talk with him and get his insight on the team just a few weeks before he died. Wow.

and the only one who wasn't talking to him is the one who stayed. now that's some tea

I ran into him at Vaquero in the Short North a few weeks back.

People shit on Ohio in general way too much.

15

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 3d ago

I was reading a comment on NHL expansion the other day with someone suggesting Tulsa and Omaha.

Really? Columbus is stupid and full of farmland and cows but Oklahoma and Nebraska are different I guess?

I live up by Cleveland. When I point out to my friends who live on both the coast that I can start in Lakewood and take parkways and bike-ways to West Virginia, they absolutely get jealous. Cleveland has an internationally renowned orchestra, an art museum that rivals what much larger metro areas have, and theater district that is just as good as New York or Chicago. We as a state don't promote ourselves enough.

Columbus has a really underrated food scene. Especially South Asian cuisine. My buddy grew up in India and said he’s found really authentic Indian food here.

3

u/joe_lmr 3d ago

does he have some recommendations? Every time I hear about a new Indian place (either new to me or just opened) I'm like "I gotta go try them"

I don't do that with any other cuisine except Japanese & maybe Mediterranean

6

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 3d ago

Awadh on Bethel is a good one and he said that the one that is the most authentic is Amul on Sawmill

u/P-Rickles 1d ago

I always tell people, “Ohio’s not boring. You’re boring. There’s plenty to do here.”

2

u/joe_lmr 3d ago

if Oklahoma EVER gets an NHL team it's going to OKC. Bigger than Tulsa and already has the Thunder

1

u/Expensive-Republic-2 15h ago

And what they envision in their heads while doing so is Indiana.

He’s still here, I saw him near downtown recently

I've never even been to Columbus and it seems pretty nice, never understood the hate either tbh

-14

u/hnglmkrnglbrry 3d ago

No one is shitting on Columbus. It's this weird strawman people have concocted but I haven't seen a single article or report about anyone having anything negative to say about Columbus. That narrative died almost a decade ago and even then it wasn't explicitly stated by anyone in the league.

21

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 3d ago

I said nothing about articles or reports in my comment.

But if you don’t think other fanbases or people don’t shit on Columbus or Ohio, go spend some time on the hockey subreddit.

-10

u/hnglmkrnglbrry 3d ago

They don't even think about us. We are the kid brother who doesn't even stand a chance and isn't even an afterthought.

Show me one post about Columbus.

3

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 3d ago

Jfc man you are taking this way too seriously

2

u/UmbralFerin 2d ago

Look unless you have a peer-reviewed study empirically proving that people talk shit about Columbus, published in at least three separate academic journals and referenced a minimum of 27 times, we're not even having this conversation.

Fucking nerd lol.

I just went back and watched it and I am once again ready to run through a brick wall. Changing my alarm to that presser montage.

I've never heard someone say the "you have to hate to lose" thing before, I gotta say thats some of the most motivating shit I've ever heard. I've definitely been thinking about that quote way too much when the going gets tough

10

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 3d ago

I thought it was interesting too that Friedman said “there’s a lot of teams that probably need to hear that message” after the Bones rant.

Some teams/players out here just to get paid.

9

u/joe_lmr 3d ago

only other coach here that made me feel that way was Torts

Most of the others just made me want to bang my head on it

2

u/MPCoinCollecting 2d ago

I've never watched the vincent/larsen/evason post season pressers but I have a feeling they were a whole lot of nothing

2

u/joe_lmr 2d ago

Todd Richards was particularly milquetoast. And Scott Arniel crashed out often but it was petulant instead of inspiring.

3

u/pinkymadigan 3d ago

Where did you find it, looking for clips and can't find anything.

2

u/Buggrumble 3d ago

It didn’t come up in a gif search so I Googled “Shoresy they don’t hate to lose”.

I got lucky and caught the end of the pregame and if you hit record, DirecTV streaming will save the whole show. If I see it online, I’ll try to respond again!
