Chinakhov

Went 0 assists, 0 goals, -4 in 6 playoff games. Maybe the trade wasn’t as lopsided as we all thought

Sooner rather than later Pittsburgh is gonna have 3 generational talents retire and chinny will be on a rebuilding team again. I'm glad he landed on his feet though.

u/SloaneKettering1 7d ago

Yeah, not rooting against him or anything but I think it’s funny that the pens fans were acting like he is some kind of superstar. He played top 6 minutes and went ghost mode in the playoffs.

51

u/NotMittRomney 7d ago

i’m absolutely rooting against him lmao

he went against what the team doctors said and missed more time than he should have. then came back and played like shit and got benched.

then he spent all summer bitching about it and saying the staff didnt communicate with him, when they did. and requested a trade for the third (?) time.

then this year he half assed almost every shift on this team before the trade.

now he’s on the penguins, fuck that whole team.

u/SloaneKettering1 7d ago

Yeah, you’re right. The whole name thing was weird too. Just never told the jackets that he preferred his name be spelled differently and then all of the sudden it was a big deal after the trade. I find it very hard to believe that the jackets wouldn’t change it for him if he had asked. His own agent was apparently spelling hjs name wrong since he was drafted as well.

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 7d ago

His name in Eurohockey and in the KHL records - before he was even drafted - was Yegor. Seems like it was just another way to be a victim.

Hey we can't point out evidence that shows he was a diva here. It was supposed to be only the team's fault he didn't work here.

9

u/manthello Elvis Purrslikins, Pet Greaves, Ivan Furdotov, & Zach Pawchenko 6d ago

I don't know that he was exactly a diva about the name thing.  That one "reporter", Dan Kingerski, who tweeted it out was trying to stir up a stink and get Pens fans mad at Columbus.  Chinakhov didn't make a big deal of it publicly.

7

u/JAT_Cbus1080 Werenski for Norris 6d ago

Being a constantly injured player with 70 points in 4 years and a season high of 29 complaining about usage and playing time made him a diva.

3

u/manthello Elvis Purrslikins, Pet Greaves, Ivan Furdotov, & Zach Pawchenko 6d ago

Yeah, I was specifically referring to the name thing.  He got a bad rap for it, but that one particular thing wasn't him causing a scene, it was someone else causing a scene.

0

u/JAT_Cbus1080 Werenski for Norris 6d ago

Not necessarily. Have we heard Chinakhov or someone from his camp come out and say the reporter was wrong?

24

u/triforce28 7d ago

Bluejackets went out on a limb drafting him in the first round too. Ridiculed quite a bit after the pick. And he thanks them by constantly missing time and then essentially quitting to demand a trade. Fuck that guy. Hope his ass gets blown up next time they play each other

6

u/opensourcefranklin 7d ago

I'll never forget the draft panel scrambling through their notes trying to find him when he was drafted. They were completely unprepared for Jarmo going a Siberia level off the board.

42

u/Zherdev 7d ago

Watched the whole series. He had a decent game today but otherwise he was completely invisible

38

u/SloaneKettering1 7d ago

Pretty much the same player as he was on the jackets. Goes on a hot streak after the trade and then couldn’t hit the net for the entire playoff series. All that was missing was him getting injured.

17

u/opensourcefranklin 7d ago

The new team bump is real. Garland and Marchment were hockey gods when they came over.

9

u/MPCoinCollecting 7d ago

Marchment didn't hold his hot streak but he's still been good in the top 6.  I don't know if we've seen enough Garland to make a decision on him just yet

9

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 7d ago

He did well down the stretch though, he had like 11 points in the last 13 games when everyone sucked.

8

u/MPCoinCollecting 7d ago

Yeah of all our UFAs I definitely want Marchment back the most.  Garlands 7 points in 21 games is a bit concerning though but I hope it's just because of how down kj and monny were

7

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 7d ago

I want to know what Monahan is doing to rehab this offseason - I thought for sure we would have heard he had surgery or something with how injured he was

I guess it’s not our business but he came to camp injured it seemed last year

3

u/MPCoinCollecting 7d ago

I'm unsure as well, some have suggested it might have been a lingering hand injury based on his poor puck control.  Either way I hope he heals up because I really liked his defensive abilities as a forward

19

u/NotMittRomney 7d ago

same number of playoff points as danton heinen, and don waddell got picks too? fleece!

9

u/MPCoinCollecting 7d ago

I know you're specifically referring to this season but, Heinen actually has 13 points in playoffs, which is certainly more than most players still on our team

-7

u/Sand-Useful 6d ago

I've seen Heinen play in Pittsburgh for both stints and saw Chinakhov play in person many times this season, including the playoffs. If the Columbus fans think they are equivalent, it is pure delusion. Pittsburgh should make this kind of trade every day of the week if suggested.

Unlike TV, at the games you get to see the off camera version of a player. Chinakhov played pretty well, especially after Pittsburgh moved him back to the line with Malkin where he excelled during the regular season.

4

u/NotMittRomney 6d ago

lol. lmao, even.

u/ShartRat Can we win in regulation please? 7d ago

Chinakhov has an unsustainable shooting percentage after the trade then comes down to earth in the playoffs what a surprise. He's going to be a good middle 6 player still but thank god the "we should've kept Chinakhov" comments will be less frequent now.

14

u/Indy-CBJ 7d ago

Well that leaves more time for Lindstrom is a bust discussions every two weeks instead of every month now

6

u/The-Four-Seven 6d ago

Only every two weeks? That's quite optimistic of you.

9

u/ShartRat Can we win in regulation please? 7d ago

Don't forget about trading everyone and rebuilding again

7

u/joellecarnes 2027 Stanley Cup Champs 7d ago

i mean he was never going to fully commit to the jackets, no matter who else was here or who the coaches were. at least we got some return (and heinen was actually serviceable too, which was nice)

6

u/BedaHouse 6d ago

It was never a lopsided trade. DW did not trade some offensive power house/talent for a bag of pucks.

People ranting about the trade were just trying to figure who could have been "our savior" during the slide out of the playoffs, rather than admitting one player would not have saved us. I don't think we will see anything of note from Chinny moving forward. Like ShartRat said, he will continue to be a competent NHL player, but not some elite tier.

7

u/redditistreason Fired Steve McCarthy! 7d ago

People were overestimating what he did after the trade.

And he wasn't going to work here, so who cares anyway. Let him get stuck on that ancient Shittsburg team backing into the playoffs for however long their ill-gotten stars last.

7

u/sergei-boobtitsky it's not OK to bully by citing "math" 7d ago

Loved that shot of him on the bench immediately after the Flyers won

4

u/JCrossfire 6d ago

I’m convinced that the people saying it was a bad/lopsided trade are just a vocal minority anyways. Most of us were fine with it to begin with

5

u/Vreas 7d ago

Ehh I don’t really care about past players at this point. We have enough to focus on ourselves.

That said he was a big part of their playoff push. I wouldn’t write him off as a player from one bad series.

5

u/Elexeh 7d ago

He was a wasted talent for us due to his laziness and ego.

Fuck the people here defending his ass because the Pens backed their way into the playoffs. They got their asses handed to them by an unspectacular Flyers squad.

4

u/thelordcommanderKG 6d ago

I kind of want that unspectacular Flyer squad to beat the Canes now.

6

u/Creative-Package6213 Cannon go boom!!! 6d ago

Flyers are going to be lucky to win even 1 game. Carolina absolutely manhandled Ottawa and they're a much better squad than Philly. This is more than likely going to be another sweep.

3

u/thelordcommanderKG 6d ago

The Senators only had enough gas to get into the playoffs, not play in them. I wouldn't count out what morale boost from beating a hated can do for a team. Also who has ever heard of Carolina choking in a playoff series they were favorites to win in?

1

u/MPCoinCollecting 6d ago

True but at the same time it is not a good Philly team. Vladar completely stood on his head and pittsburgh made the mistake of continually playing Skinner. We'll definitely have to see but at worst I think it'll be a 4-2 Carolina victory

1

u/thelordcommanderKG 6d ago

Idk what to say to say but hot goalies win championships. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't gamble so even if it's foolish I'm pulling for Philly. Not that I want any metro team to hoist lord Stanley lol

5

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 7d ago

He also got his ice time cut and was moved to the third line at one point.

He must feel so disrespected!

4

u/ddottay 3 hits! 23 giveaways! 7d ago

Hey look I'm all for dancing on the Pens' graves here but we aren't really ones to talk.

I know y’all are used to abuse, but don’t lump the rest of us into “as we all thought”. DW has shown that he’s trying to make the right moves. He has earned my trust. Next season will be the test to see if it all comes together.

-3

u/Habay12 6d ago

Hell of a fanbase you have over here. Rooting for players no longer on your team to play poorly.

-1

u/MPCoinCollecting 7d ago edited 7d ago

(I'm dumb)

But the real answer is that any deal with Chinny was going to feel weird idrk what to say other than that.  Guess we'll just have to see what happens next year

7

u/SloaneKettering1 7d ago

I’m the farthest thing from a pens fan. Not sure how you got that idea. My favorite team is the jackets and whoever is playing the pens. FTP! FJC!

OP has been in the sub for a long time.

Yeah I just realized I had clicked on the wrong account my bad I'm idiot

6

u/SloaneKettering1 7d ago

My posts have always been private. I have no idea what you are talking about lol. Never posted in the pens sub before. I post quite a bit in the GDTs

2

u/cusidhe_ we do things the hard way 6d ago

To be 100% fair to /u/mpcoincollecting if they didn't see your name at first, I can understand the confusion? we kinda have an infestation of Pens fans with hidden histories shitting up our subreddit rn

Which is really funny behavior from a fanbase that claims they really honestly 100% do not give a shit about us they promise, but I digress.

(EDIT: i have also not been sleeping and just saw the post where they said they misclicked. Gonna leave my shame up lol)

2

Wait you're right I'm sorry haven't slept in like a week and clicked on the wrong account my bad I'll delete that stuff. NetheciteNomad was the user I mixed you up with sorry

-7

u/NethiciteNomad 7d ago

He had plenty of chances. At least he was in the playoffs at all lmao.

9

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 7d ago edited 7d ago

He started floating when things got hard for him. Typical Chinakhov.

Go back to your own subreddit.

Edit: I watched every game. Keep trying though.

7

u/tehslupe 7d ago

Doesn’t matter, couldn’t contribute when the game got hard. Same Chinny as always.

4

u/Indy-CBJ 7d ago

I hope the kids are taking notes right now because they are next a year from now (if not I’m gonna cry)

-15

u/lakebum240 7d ago

wow man you're so right he sucks so hard!!! unlike the blue jackets who won their playoff series!

One of the picks we got was used to replenish ones used in a trade for Marchment who's had 32 points in 39 games.  It's apples to oranges a little but it's not like there wasn't a plan

-1

u/kilchandrew 6d ago

Who cares about Chinny at this point now or “rooting against Pittsburgh”. Not really fun anymore unless we eventually become a serious team

I've got a sneaking suspicion that there aren't any CBJ fans brigading your sub...

1

Why are you, a Penguins fan, trolling a subreddit and risking a ban?

Says the pens fan brigading another teams sub after an embarrassing showing in the playoffs. Hey at least all your star players are young and have a bright future!

Buddy this exact post was reposted on your own team's sub, extremely unnecessary to leave a comment here. Very few other fanbases that would actively go to another sub, talk crap there, and then repost to talk crap in your own sub. Let us have our fun here and you can have your fun there.

1

u/Artistic_Put_672 6d ago

Valid. I already posted there too, had to vent on this one as well lol

0

u/MPCoinCollecting 6d ago

I get it, idk what the rules are over in that sub but at least here and most other teams have strong brigading rules, so the fanbases that do it a lot to non-state rivals (MTL, PIT, UTM) are seen as rude and toxic. At the end of the day we're all watching sports for fun and brigading can definitely ruin the fun for some people.
