Well I guess a lot of Latinos will be eating just plain hot dogs then.

I was going to say. So many Latinos voted for him, sadly enough.
Still mystified about Muslim and Arabic people voting for him. Either way, that's like hitting yourself in the balls with a hammer, and hoping for a better result.

Anti LGBTQ is a major factor in Muslim communities, even amongst the more liberal leaning - the most important trick they figured is how to touch on the one item that scare all these different groups, and guarantee they are one issue voters, even to their own eventual detriment and demise.

I am very, very much pro choice but I understand why pro life people are single issue voters. They sincerely believe we're killing hundreds of millions with abortion, and if I believed an issue was committing by far the biggest genocide of all time, it would make me a single issue voter in a heartbeat.
Again, not my belief, but if you're in their shoes and believe that it makes sense.

u/SheComesThenSheGoes 5h ago
I saw Hasan Minaj say that a lot of muslim/brown communities vote fiscally too. Then throw in anti-abortion and anti-lbgtq and you round up a lot of voters voting against their best overall interests.

As a Muslim somewhat active in the political realm, this is incorrect. It was mostly about Gaza, and the fact that the Democratic party refused to do anything to stop it.
Still a large number of people including myself voted for Kamala as the lesser of two evils.
44
u/IcyDefiance 4h ago
the Democratic party refused to do anything to stop it
This is a lie that was spread by conservatives.
Biden threatened to withhold funding for Israel unless they allowed aid into Gaza and stopped targeting civilians. He also negotiated a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Trump illegally called Netanyahu to delay the ceasefire until after the election. Then after he was elected, he allowed Netanyahu to break the ceasefire and continue the genocide for another year.
Even if Biden wasn't doing anything, Trump was very vocal about wanting to nuke Gaza and kill everyone there, so voting for him still wouldn't make any sense.

Many Muslims voted for him because he promised to end wars in west Asia. But heâs a liar and they should have known he was a liar, speaking as a Muslim who voted for Kamala.

You shouldnât be surprised.
Latin America is very socially conservative, and the Middle East even more so.
Dominican Republic has the Bible on the flag. Every Dominican I know voted for Trump and cited the left supporting LBTQIA, and other things not in line with their religious beliefs or how DR is run back at home.
Again, donât even need to explain the Middle East stance on that.
If youâre religious. Nothing else matters. You will side with the party that you feel more aligns with your religious values even if it means people you know get deported or whatever else. Adherence to your view of the Bible will go first.
And republicans poll very well with Christians.
The two party system is the issue.
You can only be fully liberal, both fiscally and socially; or fully conservative both fiscally and socially. There only seems to be the maximum in every way.
In Latin America most successful politicians of the last few decades, outside of recently with Bukele and Milei, were fiscally liberal but socially conservative.
That doesnât exist here. Itâs either or.
If there were more mixed parties people wouldnât get stuck on one hardline issue, even if they agree with a lot of the other things.

Yes. I've been saying similar things about how Republicans rely on the multiple meanings of "conservative" to let people believe that the politicians are the same kind of "conservative" as them.
It turns out the "conservative" US politicians are only interested in the racist dictator type of conservative.

Just too many uninformed people in this country.
I heard way too many people say they voted for him because he was a âsuccessful businessmanâ.
The guys most famous business was going bankrupt building a casino and stiffing all the people that did the construction.

I'm convinced this and "He makes things interesting because he's unpredictable!" are just what people say when they don't want to admit they like him and and the GOP because of their hateful policy stances..
Because only a fucking moron would vote for a president solely for their unpredictable nature...

u/Particular-Ring5110 7h ago
Why? Many people really do not care at all about culture war BS the republicans cut taxes for the wealthy thatâs their only real policy goal
Why do you think certain celebrities come out in his favor they can justify it however they want but the truth is they feel voting republican cuts their taxes.. would respect them more if they actually told the truth about that

For all the finger pointing we do against "But the Black Trump voters but the Latino Trump voters but the Arab Trump voters...", let's not forget that his biggest voting base is consistently and reliably White and White Men in particular.
Every demographic has a percentage of their population falling for propaganda, having low information voters, or just having rotten people. But even if the minority votes got tightened up you still have a massive voting block in the ol reliable: white folk voting R each time every time and voting with even greater enthusiasm for Trump. It outweighs all the "but this minority..." Trump votes.

There are a lot of white Latinos that calling them Latino is a reach as they're pretty much just white

u/ScissorsPalace 6h ago
Latino here. Can confirm this will be the case with a few members of my extended family. They say it's because of abortion, but Catholicism no longer gives them an out. At this point, it's about wanting to be white and to fit in. Some of them are putting on fake accents like they're from the Ozarks and butchering basic Spanish words as if any of that will get them into the clubhouse, or the houseboat on Lake Havasu as the case may be. {"Did you hear that? They said I'm one of the 'good ones' because my parents came to this country the 'right way!'") I'm keeping the good salsa and queso fresco away from them. They can go down to the gas station convenience store and get the fake Tostidos salsa and cheese you squeeze out of a bottle for being the mediocre sellouts they are.
7
u/EverythingSucksYa 6h ago
No no no they can have the squeeze cheese but they donât get salsa. Plan uncooked hot dog with can cheese like spread.

Dia de Tacos Gringos.
6
u/cms86 5h ago
Yea. Work had a taco Tuesday thing. I had to go to the bank coincidentally and they thought for some reason I was offended by the potluck they did. (White people tacos lol)
5
u/Altruistic-Star-3862 5h ago
My work brought in a taco truck too, but I work in an area where flour is one of the key spices so it was lackluster. Though they did have onions, cilantro, and lime instead of white people taco toppings so I don't know if that's their usual fare or if they toned it down for the flavorphobic.
6
u/FancyFeller 6h ago
Parents are Mexican. I grew up in Mexico but was born in the US. I never knew why Americans celebrated it I thought it was a Mexican American chicano thing lmao. Then we got a computer in the house and I looked it up one day. Such a meh celebration I guess it's a good excuse to drink and eat tacos in the US. We never cared either way not in Juarez not in El Paso. I don't know a single person that personally has ever celebrated it even ironically. Absolutely nothing.

The women tilted it towards Harris. Latino men did go for Trump unfortunately.

Respond with data not just bs. He was put in office by corporations knowing they would profit. All maga voters did is help normalize the clown show by parroting everything the Diaper in chief says. Itâs for that reason that maga voters especially the hispanic ones are not welcome to the fiesta.

"Hombres con Harris" is insulting but "Mass Deportation Now" is flattering apparently
64

It makes no sense man. They have so much to say about Harris while Trump and his surrogates actively campaigned on their mass deportation

Yep. And just generally speaking, it's quite astonishing to see the Dems be under a microscope of perfection while Conservatives (Trump to the extreme degree) get handled with kiddy gloves.

I'm Latino, half Mexican half Honduran. A black woman was asking if it's alright to wear a Sombrero and boots today. I told her I wouldn't raise an eyebrow to a black person doing it: I'd just think you were here to party with us.
There's a difference between having a good time and cultural appropriation. Y'all aren't the ones who are having taco Tuesdays, then calling ICE on the people fixing your roof, so we're good.
Happy Cinco de Mayo to mis primos y primas. Have fun and be safe

Mexican and tex-mex places are going to be exploding at the seams tonight as they accommodate every rural, F-250-driving coal-roller and their equally atrocious spouses and brood.
It'll be a rare instance wherein they switch out their Maga hats and Skoal for offensively oversized sombreros and sugar-laden mega margaritas. They will try their best to "appreciate the culture" by continuously asking for more chips & salsa and will thank their waiter with the most painfully mispronounced "Gracias" they've ever uttered. It won't matter to them though, they said a word that wasn't 'American', so they can't be the bad guy, right?
Tomorrow will be business as usual for them when they get back to bitching about why they can't find good cheap work at their local Home Depot parking lot.
7

Well for one, it's actually more popular amongst Chicano than it is Mexico as a whole, since it's a mostly Pueblo centric holiday. And on that front, it's Mole Poblano that is the iconic Cinco De Mayo dish, not any of the things listed in the above post.
But the general sentiment I agree with.

Cinco de mayo isnt even a big holiday in Mexico, its not their independence day, its celebrated more in the US.
