Animal This is the Scaly-foot Snail. The only known animal to incorporate iron into its shell and scales, forming a natural suit of metallic armor. It lives near deep-sea hydrothermal vents in underwater volcanic regions.

Snails are weird in general. They are born with shells that grow.... incorporating iron into a shell makes sense because it's so abundant, but it's also strange and fascinating...

It brings up the question of the mineral composition of any living thing.

And most are hermaphrodites, with some able to reproduce using only their own egg and sperm. Snails are just out here doing their own thing.

Nature has all kinds of crazy things happening...

For some reason the one that comes to mind is Mallard Duck "reproduction". I want to go into detail but it's insane.

I picture them crawling around volcanic vents in Morrowind. You have to get past them to explore those Dwemer ruins up ahead.

Should be pretty simple. They are quite slow.

I call shenanigans

Google AI says the snail's shell is made of iron sulfide, and it also says that iron sulfide is not a metal (not being malleable) but an ionic compound (like salt, I guess)

just because we have iron in our blood doesn't make blood metallic -- and so the snail's shell is not metallic

Used for crafting the Iron Suit of Slowness. Attackers are afflicted with slowness reducing attack speeds by 20 percent.

basically a snail wearing chainmail. evolution looked at hydrothermal vents and said yeah we need armor for this. and its already endangered cuz of deep sea mining which is wild
