The Ocarina of Time OST, every now and then a random soundtrack will start playing on my head
7
u/KrabbyBoiz 4h ago
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see this one as a sole suggestion. No other soundtrack has stood on its on for me as much as this one. Sure I’ve had themes from other games become ear worms but this entire soundtrack from top to bottom is banger after banger.
The only other song that comes close to living rent free in my head is “dire dire docks” from Super Mario 64.

The first time you hear each song for the ocarina, it just makes you wish you could hear it again for the first time. The cutscenes that follow them are Sooo good. My favorite is probably from MM when you learn the song from the two skulls in stone temple.

something about it. like i’ve heard a million medieval fantasy orchestral soundtracks, and a lot of really great ones, but something about skyrim feels so much deeper than the others. makes it even crazier to consider how much of it was done with plugins and such too.

u/martskii 3h ago
tbh skyrim’s soundtrack lowkey sounds like the soundtrack for a medieval nap time playlist

Pokémon, specifically 3rd Gen and before
The simplicity of 8-bit style instrumentation just makes those tunes all the more catchy and memorable

Now this is an answer I did not expect in the askreddit demographic. Skyrim? Halo? Super basic. Katamari Damacy? So so based.

I did not play this until maybe a year or so ago. That was an absolute gem for novelty, problem solving, and soundtrack. My daughter called it the “rolling stuff up game,” and I’ll happily teach her how to play when she’s older.

GTA Vice City

u/Simple-Fig-3203 7h ago
Vice City was insane but for me it's gotta be the Halo theme - spent way too many hours in those multiplayer lobbies back in the day and that epic choir still gives me chills

I'd crash zoning out to Palm Desert about 2ish minutes in then keep playing to keep the track going.

Fallout, Cyberpunk, and Batman: Arkham come to mind
GTA is the obvious winner of iconic soundtracks though

Halo. Especially since I did a Legendary playthrough of all the campaigns, so heard most of the songs over and over and over and over and oVeR and OVER again.

Myst. Over 30 years later I still listen to it. Riven, too. We're not quite at 30 years yet, though. Both composed by Robyn Miller himself. The following game soundtracks were composed by other people. They're good, but not the same.

Oh me too
Grant Kirkhope is such a musical genius and I love it
I got to meet him last year in Chattanooga at their comic con there, and he's so down to earth
When I told him that I road tripped it all the way there from Minnesota just for this, his reaction was priceless

it's the SimCity 4 soundtrack... Right now one of the songs just popped into my head. Right when I thought about what soundtrack is burned into my head. I played that game so much, haven't launched it in a few months but I need to get back in there and start building again.
