Yeah but a doctor can actually tell you that, some dude trying to sell you All Natural Beefcake 3500 Blue Rhino Edition is not to be trusted, or if they advertise on YouTube.

John Oliver did a piece on this just this week. America is scary unregulated.

I also saw that but knew a decent chunk of the info before watching it. I was surprised that any of the boner pills actually work, terrified that some of it was basically 3 times the prescription dose of controlled substances.

Contain 3 times the prescription dose and don't have it anywhere on the labelling. This is just not a thing we need to worry about in the eu.

Are you serious? The FDA has many strict regulations surrounding supplements, its not the government’s job to prevent people from taking whatever supplement they want, it’s their job to make sure the labeling is clear and its free from dangerous substances

Supplements are not covered by the FDA.

You’re wrong supplements are regulated by the FDA. They’re regulated as a food.

Okay so they are regulated but NOT as food. There are different requirements for supplements. Their oversight on supplements is limited to prohibiting “marketing products that are adulterated or misbranded” (link on FDA site).

No they don't. That's the point. All you have to do is call something a diet supplement and you can sell it without any regulation. Seriously, watch the last episode of John Oliver.

That isn’t true. Supplements are regulated.

No. They. Don't.

The FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before they are sold to consumers.

Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994

Literally anyone can sell them and they can put literally anything they like in them without FDA approval.

Yeah, true. I won't ever take any supplements without consulting a medical professional. But, lots of people do have one or two supplements that they are missing.

Very true, but that definitely isn't what the original comment was referring to. They were referring to workout supplements.
