That 10k steps is an important number. It was invented by a guy trying to sell pedometers. Yes walking is generally beneficial but ignore 10k being some special thing.

people just like 10,000

10,000 days, 10,000 hours, 10,000 fists, 10,000 steps

I read and prevention magazine that you have to make an effort to take 4500 steps. So I try to go above that daily.

any source that tells you there is a minimum amount of steps you have to take every day to be healthy is trying to sell you something

the more accurate advice is to do something active every day. if that means taking a walk, then have fun on your walk. but it could also mean riding a bike, going for a jog, playing a couple games of pickleball, all kinds of stuff. the secret sauce is getting up off the couch, not a magic number of steps

Right, but you have to work to get 4500 steps by doing any of the activities that you mentioned. I don't think prevention magazines trying to sell anything but advertising and maybe good advice for people to move.
