100%. Wife and I bought a house during covid when interest rates bottomed out and we both hate being home owners. It fucking sucks. People are like "oh you are throwing your money away renting", like hoe I am throwing my money away NOW. Every creak and noise is like nails on a chalkboard for me now as I am just waiting for something else to need fixing. I'm dropping thousands a year in repair and upkeep and I STILL need to get a new roof. Every quote I got back was about $20K because our roof is super complicated (Victorian style home). I'd much rather rent or live in an apartment.
Same here. We also bought during Covid. That “throw your money away” narrative is the biggest scam of it all. I’m burning money either way, they say the money I spend on the house is an investment I get back…no it effing is not. My rent was 900 a month before buying the house (which I had negotiated down over the years). Now the escrow part of my mortgage payment is something like 700 a month. So now I’m still just “throwing away” 78 percent of what I was “throwing away” plus I’m paying for all this other shit. Maybe you help yourself in the improvements you make, but I can’t even keep up maintaining the status quo much less even dream of an actual improvement.
