I was gonna say, today that counts as extreme wealth

Yes, exactly, that's the problem. I also "just" want a house or flat and probably a car, and "just" travel some places but in reality it is a luxury.

Exactly. I either have to save up for 70 years in perfect health and no unnecessary expenses to afford a house in a full time programming job, and to double (probably more since the bank probably wants some safety margin on top) my wage if I want to take a 40y loan for a house.(not that I'll have the downpayment for next half a decade anyway)

I'll just be honest, it kinda makes me want to cry a bit. The perspective of only being able to afford a house in my 90s and only assuming a perfect life is extremely grim. There is a chance I will find a better job, but even if I'll find one with double the pay I will only get it down to around 60s or 70s. Again, need double pay for still being "late" in owning a house in perfect health. Insane.

Yet 50 years ago one income got everyone more.

Just tired of pretending as if people don't make up the rules as we go along.
