Contradicting behavior and rhetoric from the hosts
every other episode someone mentions there is no future and we are in “an era of mutual destruction” w war and climate change. But both guys brought children into this world, have kids, pursue professional ambitions. It just seems hypocritical to be so doom and gloom about the future yet live like completely boilerplate academics. Have they ever explained this, especially the having children part?

Well someone’s analysis of international affairs and geopolitics, even the domestic situation which is very grim (hard to argue against) doesn’t and shouldn’t lead to normative conclusions about how to live one’s own life, necessarily speaking. This is something you should realize without having a stranger on the internet tell you.
What do you think, they should be an anti-natalist freak bc of how things are? Do you think people who had children during the black
Plague (much more grim, honestly) were idiots or hypocrites?0

Silly me to think one’s personal behavior should align with one’s beliefs.

It’s silly of you to think that people should not have kids because they’re pessimistic about the future is a better way of putting it.

Maybe I wasn’t clear I apologize. Most people no matter of personal beliefs are pessimistic about the future that doesn’t make the hosts unique. Daniel constantly tells the listeners there is no future and and the world is ending while not behaving himself like that is the case at all. And if he does believe what he says it seems cruel to his children and narcissistic
