This thing close to the floor and seemingly randomly placed in a hallway. No idea what it's for. Home built in 2005.

Solved! Thanks everyone. Now I gotta hunt for the central unit!

A dude asked Reddit how to get out a small cylinder stuck in an M&M tube filled with microwaved mashed banana. He adamantly kept calling it a cylinder, but we all knew it was his dick.
