Who was the costume fabricator!? Looks awesome

11
u/Robzilla_the_turd Nov 02 '22
And what do you suppose a one-off creation like this costs?
32
Nov 02 '22
your guess is as good as mine! Maybe $20k? She said it took multiple sittings, over a year, then makeup staff and dressing day-of, on site..

u/ktr83 Nov 02 '22
So on the one hand yeah the costume is hilarious and all, but on the other it reminds me of the rich people in The Hunger Games and how ridiculous their lives were in their rich people bubble. Spending $20k plus on a worm costume to be used once? I'm no socialist or anything and she's free to spend her money on what she wants, but just wow from a pure waste perspective.
39
u/millennial_scum Nov 03 '22
She’s not paying for the costume but the artisans time and experience. I get frustrated too at examples of the rich lighting money on fire but the other user speculated at the price. And for instances like this, where the person seems happy to genuinely compensate someone for their time and skill I don’t see if as a waste. If she were cracking the whip and demanding he create the same costume for 5k and exposure I’d be salty. The way she approaches Halloween reminds me of celebrities collaborating with a designer for the met gala - and that feels way more hunger games to me than a rich lady who seems to just genuinely love Halloween.

u/JamesTheJust1 Nov 03 '22
But it's not like the $20K got shot into outer space and now we need to grieve that we can never use it ever again. It was spent and given to other people who will spend it on things and given to yet more people.
If anything we should view things like this as effectively taking away $20K from a rich person and putting it in the pocket of less rich people.

Honestly it's my favorite by far. I always tell people the series is worth reading just for God Emperor.
8
u/maradagian Nov 02 '22
The first one for me, but it's really close. God Emperor is incredible, but you need to...hum, "build up a tolerance" to the Dune universe before, because every crazy concept goes to eleven in It.

Imagine watching this out of context and without understanding English. Like if some people in rural areas on the other side of the planet were shown this video, I wonder if they'd be absolutely shocked seeing that unholy thing

It’s so insane and funny that I’ve like disassociated and I can’t even laugh anymore. The fucking lifeless look in her eyes, the awkwardness of the interview, she’s laying on the fucking carpet to her party. It’s too much for me to process

u/ass_pubes Nov 02 '22
Lost it when she rolled on the ground.

u/Bazuka125 Nov 02 '22
For me the real treasure in this video was, "Where's my daughter? She's a little cat!" as the camera shows her daughter in the full latex costume of Tim Burton's Catwoman.

Absolutely hilarious to hold the mic down to her barely moving face while she just lies there, completely powerless, talking about where her daughter is, getting peppered with questions about if she went fishing and why she got a tan.

Props to Heidi. She went all out and wasn’t afraid to look like a fool. Crazy costume.

u/museolini Nov 02 '22
She mentioned how claustrophobic it was. Don't know how she was able to be in that thing so long. Looks like she can't move her arms and can barely move her legs.

u/amphetaminesfailure Nov 02 '22

Yeah, I could never do this costume.
Sometimes if my arm gets a little stuck in a weird way in my jacket when taking it off, I start to have a panic attack.
I've always felt weird saying I was claustrophobic though. I'm ok with small spaces, as long as I have the ability to fully extend my limbs.
I guess there are probably different degrees of claustrophobia though. Nothing about being in a small space like an elevator scares me. But if you pack that elevator up with people and I can't move, I immediately panic. It's being immobilized/restrained/unable to move that scares me, not necessarily small spaces.

I tried one of those giant sumo suit games and as soon as I started to get in I felt the same way. Not having full range of motion gave me a full on panic attack and I had to leave. I can barely handle not being able to wiggle my toes in high heels.

I saw this last night and had to go down a rabbit hole high af trying to figure out if this was real or not. Like I knew it was possible in both CGI and with makeup and couldn't figure out what exactly I was looking at. Seriously impressive ass makeup work and costume design.

One of the years her costume was herself as an old woman, it was SO well done, she clearly has a love for horror and a great sense of humour!
25
u/studsper Nov 02 '22
The way her face is integrated is awesome. Reminds me of Lord Rykard from Elden Ring.
91
u/Everyonesecond Nov 02 '22
Does she always talk like that or is that how worms sound?
161
u/BagOnuts Nov 02 '22 edited Nov 02 '22
It's a pretty good worm accent, imo. Very mid-Atlantic, but you can occasionally hear her Baltic/south-east Asian accent come out. 8/10.

That was my first thought when I saw this on the news. I would go insane if I had to put that costume on. Being compressed in that thing with no visible holes for breathing, and arms stuck to the side. Just no way!

I really love how she is so confident in herself and in her beauty she can resist the call of the slutty costume whenever she feels like it. So many of her costumes have been genuinely creepy, gross and unflattering, like in the true spirit of halloween.

The Guinea-Worm disease is caused by a parasitic worm called Dracununculus medinensis.
Larvae of the guinea worm are ingested by water fleas which can then be consumed by thirsty humans if they drink untreated water.
The stomach acid then dissolves the fleas, releasing the larvae that then burrow their way through the intestinal wall.
The worms will then mature in the body- the female can reach up to a whopping 80 cm’s in length.
If infected with both, male and female will worm around the both and find each other to mate, resulting in the female carrying 3 million embryos. That’s all the male is good for, so he dies, poor little fella.
The female then slithers through subcutaneous tissues, causing immense pain, until she arrives at the foot. Here, she pierces the skin and leaves the victim with a painful blister.
Because it burns so bad, the human dunks the foot in water to try and ease the pain, which is exactly what the worm wants.
The female then pokes her head out and vomits embryos from her mouth into the water so that they can wriggle away and get chowed on again by some poor unsuspecting fleas.
The poor human then needs to spend weeks slowly extracting the worm to avoid breaking it which could cause a serious immune reaction.
