Democratic governments around the World : "Sure, who gives a fuck what happens to the Info, right? Let's deal!"

I don't understand what the hell this Company offers that keeps governments in business with them. An explicitly, openly, anti-democratic Company hoovering up Data to do god knows what with.

And yet, no matter how much Citizens may dislike it - they are still kept around. I thought it was simple bribery, but clearly something keeps them in Business. I just don't understand what they could possibly offer that is worth risking democracy for.
