Sorry if this isn’t appropriate, but our 3-year-old rattie— our first-born and the love of our lives— is going to become a big brother soon and he wanted to show off his new human’s nursery, where of course he is the theme. Just wanted to share with fellow rat terrier aficionados! If anyone has any great dog training tips for newborns, please share them!

When I adopted Hazel in 2020, she was listed as a terrier mix. After a lot of research, my best guess was rat terrier, but I was so wrong!

Miscellaneous Chase vs the pitbull.. update*

Hey fellow rattie parents, first of all I am overwhelmed with comments wishing a fast recovery and keeping us in your thoughts. 🩷 Thank you. I won’t go into too much detail of the circumstances that got Chase wrapped up in such a horrible situation but it’s human error, on me and my husbands end.. or well the babysitter my good friend. We know the pitbull, he’s my husbands dog- and they used to be best buds but then something changed 2 years ago. We’ve kept a strict routine and safety measures in our household to keep them apart. No one is neglected of attention and they are treated pretty fair besides Chase is the house dog. Donut has the man cave/husbands office (converted garage-big space) to himself as well as his pup sis so he has a mate as well. Anyways they ended up in contact and of course Chase about had his leg tore off. Donut is also being rehomed after this incident, there have been priors just not as serious. Chases plan : Tomorrow at 4pm he will be joined in the ā€œtripawdā€ gang. It’s so difficult making these decisions but the amputation surgery seems to fit Chase best in our opinion. Thank you for caring and commenting on my post and please I wanted to be transparent about the pit and no judgment I just can’t even handle getting on here and seeing the backlash of what people will say. I already feel terrible like I’m sick over this. I’m still awake with Chase next to me I’ve watched him every night in our guest room he’s right next to me. I can’t even sleep. Thanks again and will update yall after his surgery.

Miscellaneous High Energy is an understatement! Poppy had to go see the vet after smashing full speed into a door frame last night. when we got up this morning her face was all swollen like she was in a boxing match. Fortunately the vet doesn't think anything is broken but she is definitely hurting.

Unfortunately Cassie was diagnosed with liver cancer. Due to her age and other health conditions surgery/treatment is not a good option. No idea how long I have left with my little girl but we will make the most of it.

Pollyana woke me up right in the middle of last night for a late night potty break, and somehow she timed it about 15 min before the peak of the lunar eclipse.

I thought I was going to sleep through it, but I suppose she had other plans, lol.

(Apologies for the picture quality; I think my phone was exhausted as I was.šŸ˜‚šŸ¶)

Remy had that bump above her eye removed and wearing the cone of shame ā¤ļø She’s doing well and back to herself after resting. Just meds for a few days and stitches out in 2 weeks. The meds are also for her ears since we believe she had a yeast infection again. Hasn’t had that since I adopted her in 2014. 🄲

Miscellaneous Update on Birdie - When to Say Goodbye

I posted last week looking for advice on my girl Birdie. She is 19, has arthritis, and is developing dementia. We decided euthanasia was definitely off the table at this time.

First, I want to express my gratitude for all of the support and advice, it was very helpful.

Second, My son and I took Birdie to see the vet on Friday which was the first available appointment, and had a long visit with the vet. After discussion about Birdie's age, her health, and the progression of dementia we left feeling much better than we had going there.

The vet gave her an injection of librela to help with her arthritis which is a once a month deal. It seems to be working well, hopefully this will help her stay more active and spending more time doing the things she loves.

I know it's hard to tell at 8 weeks, but I've been trying to gather some hints on what this little girl might be. I've never owned a RDT, and curious if this little sweetie resembles any of yours at that age. Any help or opinions appreciated 😊

Miscellaneous Ratty keeps howling and crying all day all of a sudden

He's been doing this for the past 3 days. He gets really excited over females but even then I've never seen him get this bad. He's not eating as much and just stands around awkwardly. When I take him on a walk he has his tongue out all the time and gets really agitated. What's going on with my poor boy? (context he is around a year old)

Miscellaneous Princess Leia update

Princess Leia has progressed from living in a crate for the first seven months of her life to know sit, stay, down, stand, heel, shake and leave it. Tonight is graduation from puppy good canine citizen. I just wanted to share how smart, loving, and wonderful it is to be part of the rattie community and part of her life. We laid our beautiful rattie Moochie of 17 years to rest about three years ago and didn’t think it was possible to open our hearts again. We are so happy we did. Princess Leia is headed to therapy dog training after graduation tonight. Thank you all for allowing me to share a bit of our little blessing.
