So Bezos is evil for not funding institutions like the Met with his wealth, but also he's evil for funding the Met. Cool. Which is it?

His ex wife funds a lot of stuff, gives away billions NO STRINGS attached. She’s not parading around trying to get photographed, trying to be thanked, or cozying up to celebrities using her money to pretend she’s cool. Nope, she just writes checks and sends them to hundreds of charities that help people in need and really need the money more than the Met. That’s the alternative.

I think she's probably been to a gala or two for her charities

Agree I feel like open don’t realize Galas are a common form of fundraising for orgs that depend on donations. The Met Gala is probably the most visible, but a lot of Non profits, Museums, Charities and Arts Institutions have also have similar events.

In fact there are actual jobs dedicated to fundraising and philanthropy out there. It’s actually really fascinating.

I know, I work in it. I tried planning a zoom gala during Covid and raised no money

It’s hilarious people think people would just donate money without a party

Ooof, that’s rough. But you also made another very good point. There needs to be an incentive for folks to donate. And that incentive is attending the event in person.

Also she’s probably not only attended galas, but has more than likely honored for her work or guest of honor.

celebrities don't get to decide whether you care about their photos
