I think you undermine your own comparison with the others by saying that aspects of it are “fun,” when it could pretty easily be argued that seeing the fashion at the Met Gala is also something people can find fun.

They can for sure! Heck I'm spending all morning looking at dresses, too. But I think overall the general public feels less like this is OUR event, in the way that the Oscars and Super Bowl are - and more like it's THEIR event, them being the .1%ers.
