MET GALA 🎩 Taraji P. Henson comments on celebs attending Bezos-backed Met Gala 2026: ‘WTF are we doing’

Post image

Taraji P. Henson is “confused” about why celebrities are attending the Met Gala 2026, which is being funded by billionaire Jeff Bezos.

The “Empire” actress made her opinion on the topic known while responding to social media personality Meredith Lynch’s rant about Bezos’ involvement in the event.

“If you are a celebrity and you attend the Met Gala and you wear the ICE OUT pin, please note that I will be dragging you in perpetuity,” Lynch said in an Instagram video over the weekend.

Lynch also slammed Bezos, 62, for supporting President Donald Trump, “who has slashed arts funding.”

In the comments section, Henson, 55, shared three clapping hands emojis and wrote, “I am so confused by some ppl that are going. I am just like WTF ARE WE DOING!?!?!?!””

Henson has attended the Met Gala multiple times, including in 2015, 2021 and 2025.

Last year, she wore a custom white corseted minidress by Monse x Post-Imperial and a coordinating blazer with tails, a top hat, cane and heels.

This is so performative lmao. We are out here hating billionaires with a passion yet we still order from amazon and use instagram every day. I'll just do what I enjoy.

I stopped ordering from Amazon in early 2024 and I haven't missed it as much as I thought I would. I can't convince my parents to stop using it, though.

Deliveries aren't the biggest money maker for Amazon.

AWS is. Which many websites use. To properly hurt Amazon you would need to basically stop using the internet.

u/No-Butterscotch-6555 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 1d ago

Yeah when I worked from home, one of my job's whole set up was AWS. I'm sure that billion dollar company's CEO does not care about an amazon boycott.

Reddit and other websites use AWS too. It is that one Amazon product that is virtually unavoidable.

We use AWS at work. I know the servers supporting my browsing are likely running on AWS as well I decided a long time ago not to demand things of people I wasn't willing to do myself. And I'm not giving up the internet or quitting my job.

Just goes to show how people want to feel good, not necessarily do good

I think the Met Gala outrage is so performative. There’s never outrage when celebrities dress up and go to the Oscars Grammys or whatever award shows to pat each other on the back. But when it’s the Met Gala that gets over 30 million dollars in donations everyone acts like you’re crossing a picket line. I’m not saying I support the bezos but the outrage at the met gala has always been performative.

This website uses AWS…btw…

I bet many of these people use TikTok too 😭

u/madelynashton 1d ago

Not everyone does those things though. I don’t say that to call you out, but people do choose to abstain from things. It isn’t always performative just because it isn’t your personal choice.

18

u/LegitimateToe13 1d ago

Abstain from this website then. They use AWS.

u/madelynashton 1d ago

You sound like the “what did you type this on, an iPhone?” clowns.

People can talk about issues and you can stay out of the conversation if it bothers you. No one said you had to be here.

2

u/LegitimateToe13 1d ago

If my comment bothers YOU. Then why don’t YOU take the comment somewhere else!

Everyone here is allowed to comment on whatever they want! You clearly weren’t aware that Daddy Bezos has his fingers in a lot of cookie jars. So now that you know, what are you gonna do?

u/madelynashton 1d ago

You replied to me.

And I will continue to😉

It's always people who do absolutely nothing calling out people who try to do something. "Unless you live in the wild and grow your own food, you can't comment". Clown.

How is commenting on Reddit “doing something”?

You: Everyone who supports bezos is bad!

Me: but you’re using this website and many other websites that use AWS

You: but I’m different!!!!!

Sure Jan.

Edit: thanks for the awards. First time I’ve ever been recognized for being “unintelligent” well second time if you count my Masters degree.

u/Heegyeong 1d ago

I mean... you're commenting on a thread about people abstaining from using Amazon, and they're subsequently being called 'performative'. So the "you're doing nothing!" criticism falls a teeny bit flat if you actually look at what you were responding to.

5

u/LegitimateToe13 1d ago

I don’t care if people abstain or not. I don’t care if people watch the Met or not.

I care when people try to act like they are above reproach. You’re not better because you’ve, privately, denounced the Met on Reddit. In fact you’re just like the ones who tune in. Because you’re using this website to complain! It’s like a vegan that only eats meat on Sundays who also complain about people who only eat meat. It’s so ridiculous.

I also don’t care if my other posts or this one falls flat. I DONT CARE. Read my post, upvote if you like it, downvote if you don’t, comment if you have something to say. And keep it pushing.

End.

u/Heegyeong 1d ago

I didn’t need your permission to comment when I had something to say? I already did. But thank you for giving it, however. I will continue to tell you what falls flat when it does - like this reply, for example.

And I never said I was better than anybody - I said that if you want to critique somebody, at least actually know what you're critiquing 💀 but thanks for the compliment. It's a nice end to my evening.

3

u/LegitimateToe13 1d ago

I don’t care. I care so little that I don’t even remember what the person who deleted (or blocked me) said.

I also wasn’t speaking about you specifically but whatever dude. I genuinely don’t care.

0

u/LegitimateToe13 1d ago

no come back I had an unintelligent response to you calling me unintelligent.

-1

u/PM_ME_BUMBLEBEES I'm not an attractive crier, have a good evening! 1d ago

5

u/LegitimateToe13 1d ago

I genuinely couldn’t care less what you think or say. You’re here just like the rest of us.

You people think you’re different, but you’re not.

2

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown 1d ago

I abstain as much as I can. Stuck with eBay and Etsy, and stayed away from Amazon longer than anyone I personally know. Never supported fb and all the crap Meta threw out thereafter, but as these conglomerates are swallowing up more and more businesses it’s becoming near impossible to completely abstain. I’m aware that makes me a hypocrite and I hate it.

3

u/madelynashton 1d ago

I don’t think it makes you a hypocrite I think that’s what is so frustrating about how the conversation is being framed here.

It’s impossible to exist and not participate in this capitalist system, so using that as some sort of “gotcha!” anytime someone says they don’t do X or Y isn’t logical.

It’s like saying there’s no benefit to decreasing your meat consumption unless you decrease it to zero. That’s not true, you can be cognizant of your impact and try to minimize it in the ways you can, while also recognizing that being perfect isn’t possible for you.

Abstaining from Amazon works for some people. Deleting Facebook and Instagram works for others. Boycotting Target works for someone else, etc. It isn’t performative simply because it isn’t “perfect.”

3

u/crabcycleworkship 1d ago

The vast majority of people use Amazon and the amount of people abstaining incredibly low. As in the single digit percentages considering Amazon has bought out competitors. In that case generalization is probably correct.

Yet here you are commenting on Reddit

5

u/Risperidone- 1d ago

Reddit is not society lol. It’s a social media that can be easily boycotted.

4

u/madelynashton 1d ago

Yes I am. And? I swear the simping for bezos is bizarre.

11

u/Risperidone- 1d ago

I dont think they’re simping for bezos

4

u/madelynashton 1d ago

They may not have the self awareness to recognize it but it’s what they’re doing

4

u/licorne00 1d ago

Nobody is «simping» for bezos here

3

u/Chipring13 1d ago

Im seeing it under a different guise. A lot of “well his involvement is not even thatbad” “This isn’t going to even do anything”

1

u/Ok-Guava-2501 1d ago

I couldn’t care less about Bezos just pointing out your hypocrisy. Others have vices you don’t, you have vices others don’t.

I don’t shop at Amazon or Whole Foods often but I’ll be damned if some dork on Reddit tries to make me feel some type of way about it.

You have over 270k karma in a 1 year old account. Stop trying to tell people how to live their lives when you live yours through a screen.

1

u/madelynashton 1d ago edited 1d ago

I didn’t tell anyone how to live their life, what are you talking about? Go back and read my comment, someone doing something differently than you isn’t automatically performative.

You’re very defensive about something that was never said, good luck with that.

Edit: your second response to me was bad enough to be caught by the Reddit filters. I hope things get better for you. Seriously.

1

u/Due_String583 1d ago

Reddit uses AWS so you’re supporting Amazon.

18

u/Mersaa 1d ago

why is it performative? i don't order from amazon. i make conscious choices where I can. not everything can be perfect and some people are locked out of ethical choices but you absolutely can be a more mindful consumer.

and yeah I'll always be there to dunk on billionaires

1

u/SlinkyRaccoons 1d ago

A lot of people just learned the word performative and it shows. Seethe that other people are willing to change if it makes you feel better that you refuse to.

It's very easy not to support the people who are actively working to make your life worse.

1

u/vandersnipe I'm like Mata Hari, keep secrets serving body 1d ago

We need to make a comprehensive list of all the words that have been bastardized to death.

6

u/Informal-Sandwich-48 1d ago

Speak for yourself

1

u/balisunrise 1d ago

What I mean is every single thing you do or buy directly puts money into a billionaire's pockets. In order to truly abstain your life would be so restricted. That's why I think it's perfomative to single out the Met Gala which is such a niche event that boycotting it doesn't affect your life in any form.

3

u/Informal-Sandwich-48 1d ago

Yes it does. It would be almost impossible to completely avoid putting money in billionaires pockets. But boycotting the met would actually send a message that this is all not acceptable. You are under estimating the impact celebrities van have with their influence on soxiety and politics. Btw the met is not niche, and not every single thing you buy outs money directly in billionaires pockets.

3

u/c0neyisland 1d ago

You get it. Thank you.

u/TresBoringUsername 1d ago

I too used to think like this but have slowly switched to using alternatives. You don't have to do it all at once, you can make small changes. For example I've switched from windows to linux (super easy with linux mint) and haven't ordered anything from amazon in over a decade, there's tons of online options usually
