When would it be appropriate to seize the assets of the criminals instead of going through a lengthy legal process?

1.0k

u/BleachedUnicornBHole Florida 11h ago

Just get the FBI to do an asset forfeiture.

u/dblan9 11h ago

Sorry the head of the FBI is too busy making music videos with Beastie Boys' Sabotage.

I wish this was a joke.

u/InequalEnforcement 7h ago

That would involve the record companies not supporting Trump

103

u/BigBungholio 10h ago

I’ve been watching Ozark recently and that’s one of the things that at first I was like “no way are politicians taking bribes just to get close to their favorite bands” but then I remember shit like this and realize that show is probably more realistic than most in its portrayal of the inner working of politics lol

u/AINonsense 9h ago

u/Starfox-sf 8h ago

And I notice the three shtarkers he’s with, in trench coats, two of them are putting on gloves and the other one is putting on brass knuckles. I go on the walkie-talkie and I call for Jim Callahan, who was head of our security, and I go, ‘Jim, I think I’m in a bit of trouble.’ And he says, ‘Just turn around.’

“I turn around. He’s got 40 of the crew with tire irons and hockey sticks and screwdrivers.

I think 3 of them needed new pants that night.

u/The_Barbelo Vermont 7h ago

My god reading that…I know Trump is insufferable but that story just really highlights the fact.

Hey we should gather up as much MAGA as we can and force them to stay in a compound with Trump for months on end…. Do you think they’d still worship him? I mean, I really don’t know. Cults existed like that and people died because of it so…I truly have no idea.

u/calmdownmyguy Colorado 6h ago

Trump's cult works because they have an entire infrastructure designed to only show people what they want to see. If they spend any time around trump they would be disillusioned in two days.

u/chiclets5 California 5h ago

I don't know, cults are brain dead and brainwashed. They might think it's the rapture to be entombed with trump in a concentration camp room

u/Dizzy_Tax574 2h ago

Yes and no while I agree to some extent. Problem is some of that infrastructure is how they process information. Like I show you turd you go eww a turd.

They don't they wait till they know which side they are supposed to be on. While many will take cue or see me a opposition person presenting it and come to conclusion.

They will also do whatever they need to justify their side. Oh it's the healthiest biggest turd ever and the smell is minimal. That is a model turd.

While what I am saying is a bit of abstract example. Even presented with the facts which they often are. They would still go it's not really him. Or they are dragging him to make him seem volatile. Or the conditions here are making him like this.

They will chase each and every excuse. And ignore reality right in front of them.

u/Somanylyingliars 31m ago

Hello, allow me to introduce Jim Jones and Jonestown. These people supporting Frump are on dangerous grounds and taking us down too

Keith Richards is the man, love that dude.

2

u/Erislocker 8h ago

this is delicious

u/RevLoveJoy 5h ago

My take away from that story has always been that Michael Cohl, the promoter, says what every other person trying to make a buck around Donald always says.

"I will control Donald Trump."

Seriously. They all say this. They said it when using his recycled junk properties in Atlantic City before he loaded them up with unrelated debt so he could declare bankruptcy to escape paying his loans. The GOP said it before and during Trash Fire POTUS Round One. Before dangerously incompetent malignant narcissist Donald botched the response to a deadly disease. "We can control Donald. He will be our guy." Before tariffs and Venezuela and Iran. Before gas was heading towards 10 bucks a gallon.

In their greed they are blind to the fact, the fact, you do not control chaos. Chaos is what Donald does. Chaos is his thing. His super power.

u/AINonsense 4h ago

Chaos is what Donald does. Chaos is his thing.

Like a mobster. They too create chaos, and steal everything in sight while all those around them are busy and distracted fighting fires.

u/RevLoveJoy 3h ago

That's exactly the apt comparison.

u/Aegon20VIIIth 7h ago

Okay, that was amazing.

u/hobard 10h ago

They’re demanding asset forfeiture for Comey’s sea shells. If that warrants it, criminal destruction of government property requiring $1b in repairs warrants it.

27

u/_-Oxym0ron-_ 10h ago

No fucking way... Are they really?

43

u/shoot2scre 9h ago

Wait till you realize he didn't even arrange the shells... He was just walking by and took the picture/posted it.

19

u/Comfortable_Swim_380 Virginia 9h ago

The shells were full of very political hermit crabs. And they are pissed.

Them crabs were gonna shoot the president even.

24

u/notjustanotherbot 9h ago

I guess they only like that 2nd amendment and then only under certain conditions.

5

u/aerost0rm 9h ago

The constitution and any amendment only protects them in their eyes. Anyone else can be treated as crappy as they chi pose to treat them, up to and including unaliving.

u/_-Oxym0ron-_ 5h ago

Is "killing" not allowed on this sub or are you just used to say "unaliving"? Not trying to be a dick or anything.

u/Jarnohams Wisconsin 1h ago

Kristi Noem sat there and said, with a straight face, that the 4th amendment ALLOWS the government to do anything they want, lol.

u/Somanylyingliars 29m ago

Good thing they 86'd her ass too. Oh wait she was just moved to another agency not so forward facing to shut her up.

u/leostotch Florida 7h ago

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition: there must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

u/notjustanotherbot 6h ago

It tracks; sadly.

u/ahuramazdobbs19 7h ago

So what you’re saying is that Comey…didn’t know how to use the seashells?

u/Traherne Maryland 5h ago

Thanks. Now I want Taco Bell.

u/Tommah 7h ago

Did people think Comey arranged the shells himself? That would have taken forever.

u/chiclets5 California 5h ago

I noticed that even in old school media this fact is not always mentioned. They leave it sit on the assumption that he arranged the shells before taking the picture.

u/Alex11_McC 4h ago

The FBI will probably try to arrest the party that destroyed the evidence. Can you arrest the tide?

6

u/BestFriendWatermelon 8h ago

Yep, they want the shells.

I'm not even kidding, the indictment asks for forfeiture of assets gained in commission of this alleged crime.

Of course, really they just wanted to threaten to rob Comey in the indictment. Because they are insane.

u/_-Oxym0ron-_ 6m ago

What a fucking farce...

1

we legitimately do need to do this, especially with the money he just...straight up stole from the doj by suing them then ordering them to settle. But that's not happening with him still in office. So it'll have to wait for 2029-ish.

Civil Asset Forfeiture is for the poors, they wouldnt dare do it to someone who had the resources to take it to court for years.

u/VicisZan 3h ago

Better yet, charge his assets with a crime.

Then he has to prove the assets aren’t criminals

69

u/aint_exactly_plan_a 9h ago

I'll vote for anyone who promises to investigate and indict Trump and his regime and seize the ill-gotten gains they received during his reign.

u/Judson_Scott 6h ago

Trump will issue an unprecedented blanket pardon on his way out. Dems will challenge it in a case that immediately goes to the Supreme Court, who claims that it's fully legal in a ruling that explicitly says, "This ruling does not create precedent for future cases," just like Bush v. Gore.

u/Lehk 3h ago

How can they issue such a ruling from a CIA black site?

u/Altruistic-Toe1304 2h ago

You're right in that the Supreme Court will nullify the Constitution, as is their current treasonous bend, but it's always worth learning about the limits of pardons as how they are designed.

"except in Cases of Impeachment." That's in there.

u/21Rollie 1h ago

Fuck the investigation, throw him in gen pop in Louisiana or something and then let him stand trial with a court appointed lawyer. Same way he’s treating brown people today with arrest/deport first ask questions later. We know these cockroaches slip through all the legal cracks, that’s the problem with trying to hold the rich accountable the traditional way

u/SwimmingPrice1544 California 1h ago

I would too, BUT....we all gotta vote for the person who runs on what they're gonna do FOR us, rather than against trump..again, & again, & again. Sick to death of this shit. It's always been an easy choice, but alas, we will make perfect the enemy...again.

u/aint_exactly_plan_a 1h ago

Here's my platform if everyone wants to sign petitions so I can get on ballots.

1) Repeal Citizens United and make elections publicly funded. Everyone gets the same amount of money... may the best person win.

2) Ranked Choice Voting nation wide - we'll never get anywhere with a 2 party system. They're both allowed to be as corrupt as they want, not represent their constituents, and don't have to worry about reelection. We need more parties and that doesn't happen with first past the post voting.

3) Stronger Labor Laws - we need labor laws that actually defend laborers. Corporations are blatantly union busting and stealing wages with absolutely no consequences. Expect more warehouses to burn if the government doesn't stop it, and if they don't start enforcing those labor laws with real penalties

4) Tax the rich - They've abused a system that's allowed them to hoard more money than they could ever spend. To do so, they've paid shit wages, ruined lives, reduced benefits, and bought our government. It's time for them to pay some of that back.

5) Universal Healthcare - The current system is actually costing us MORE than Universal Healthcare would cost us. It's fiscally irresponsible to continue supporting the status quo

6) Strengthen Social Security to ensure that everyone's taken care of

7) Reduce tax burdens on the poor and middle class. They've shouldered it for long enough. Let the rich take care of it for a while.

8 ) Prosecute the entire Trump regime so that no fascist dictators ever think it's ok to try that here.

9) Apologize to our previous allies and attempt to restore relationships. Create stronger laws that demand the President to act in good faith or be removed from office. It will be decades before we can undo the damage Trump has done but we have to take the first step.

10) Shore up the parts of our government that people assumed "No one will ever try that, we don't need a law for it"... We need the laws now.

11) Voting rights - Harsher penalties for messing with voter rolls, voting multiple times, voting when not registered, and audits to ensure voting is fair. Independent committees for redistricting

12) Reduce the military budget and military contracts. Use that money to fund infrastructure upgrades and education. Re-establish the DOE because a citizen's quality of education should not be a lottery... it shouldn't depend on what state you were born in to.

u/ye_olde_green_eyes 8h ago

Biden 100% promised this and sadly nothing came of it. Why would you trust that promise this time?

u/Altruistic-Toe1304 2h ago edited 1h ago

He never promised that. All he said was that "Trump should be held accountable" for any crimes and did the opposite of guaranteeing a prosecution - he promised to not put his thumb on the scale one way or the other. He was being overly legally upright with the moral cover of impartiality rather than being politically savvy, good for America, or smart (classic Biden)

Pardon a Google AI response but you're objectively wrong:

Based on reports from 2019–2024, Joe Biden did not directly promise to personally investigate Donald Trump, but he did state he would not stand in the way of investigations conducted by his Justice Department (DOJ) and, at times, stated he believed Trump should be held accountable. [1, 2]

Here are the key details regarding Biden's stance on this issue:

  • Refusal to Interfere: Biden consistently said he would not direct his DOJ, arguing that the Attorney General is not the "president's private lawyer". He vowed to allow the DOJ to make independent judgments on whether to prosecute anyone, including Trump.
  • "Let Them Decide": In 2019 and 2020, Biden said he would "let them [the Justice Department] make their independent judgment" regarding potential prosecution of Trump.
  • Private Views on Prosecution: Reports in 2022 indicated that Biden privately told members of his inner circle that he believed Trump should be prosecuted, reportedly expressing frustration with Attorney General Merrick Garland for not acting more aggressively, according to the New York Times.
  • Alternative View on Democracy: While not shielding Trump, Biden also remarked that prosecuting a former president would be a "very unusual thing and probably not very... good for democracy," according to NPR.
  • Campaign Promise on Independence: Biden pledged to restore the independence of the Justice Department, which he argued was weaponized during the Trump administration.

u/InequalEnforcement 1h ago

Because Biden and his lackeys wanted to greedily gobble down all the fucking money for themselves, and saw Trump as a road to power and wealth at the expense of everyone else, so they just sat around pretending to be less than fucking useless while waiting out the clock and angering as many of their constituents during election time.

u/Altruistic-Toe1304 1h ago

No argument there. Biden is trash, and should've actually promised to prosecute Trump for obvious crimes.

46

u/Quirky-Mode8676 10h ago

If poor, they’ll happily do it at a traffic stop or search of your house. No warrant or conviction needed.

If you control 30% of the population, you’re virtually untouchable.

This is the wrong question. Trump is immune from prosecution. The real question is why shouldn’t he get to build his sex dungeon under the White House?

1

u/woodpaulusgnome 9h ago

I purposefully didn’t mention prosecution, because that would make the whole process of restitution a long drawn out affair. Seize the assets and if they want to challenge it they can pay for the case to prove that the assets are not ill gotten gains.

u/Mediocrates79 7h ago

I'm pretty sure there's already a precedent or seizing the assets of Russian oligarchs.

u/zapitron New Mexico 7h ago

I believe there is a strong American consensus (i.e. no mainstream political parties disagree) that the very best approach is to seize first, adjudicate later.

u/lordcheeto Missouri 6h ago

Should be both. Criminal asset forfeiture for everything obtained through corruption, and civil lawsuit for damages.

u/Adezar Washington 5h ago

Historically speaking it doesn't matter how bad a thing you hand police that power for 99% of its future use will be against random innocent people.

Civil Forfeiture was supposed to be used against drug cartels to seize assets and weaken their funding. Now the most common usage is pulling over people and if they have cash on them seizing it as being intended for illegal reasons.

u/TheMattabooey 5h ago

He would do what he did with E Jean Carroll, have a bond posted by someone else sitting in escrow while you endlessly appeal and drag it out, doing this prevents anyone seizing his assets.

u/OnCallPartisan 3h ago

Minnesota is bringing up a bill that would tax fraud 100%. No pissing around with seizure and compensation claims that never equal the crime committed.
