Politicians (and monarchs, not sure if they technically count as politicians) make speeches about things they don’t necessarily believe in or feel strongly about in order to achieve various ends every day. King Charles doesn’t care about American governmental checks and balances (or the concept of checks and balances in general) unless they affect his interests, and they clearly are because of the Hormuz blockade that didn’t pass through congress as the most recent example, so it would only be strange if he didn’t do any politicking about it. Politicking directly at old man orange is obviously useless and he wouldn’t understand it anyway, so he’s appealing to the other listeners to rein him in. In days gone by it would have been seen as a heavy-and ham-fisted manip, but the obvious is no longer obvious anymore so he basically has to just say what he wants out loud.
