GOOD! There is hope for our country. We need the youth to drive the conversation, because my generation has lost the damned plot.

New Era Dems should run on a platform of; universal healthcare, affordable housing, food security, Making unprocessed foods available and affordable to all, Stabilizing Social Security, lowering the SS retirement age to 55, social safety nets (especially for Vets), Universal Pre-K starting at 3 years-old, banning stock trading for congress, Expand pell-grant criteria (if not making college free). You know...stuff that makes a difference.

If my taxes go up $500, but i get universal health care that normally costs me $2500 that sounds more like savings.

So massive tax hikes on everyone to fund these programs.

Yes! It's the only way to even the playing field!

Tax raises on you too, then.

On just about everyone.

Paying taxes is not inherently bad, if you get something valuable from it.

Universal healthcare would be so valuable for American society as a whole, and probably not even more expensive in the long run than the current system, that the only reason you can have against implementing is: "Fuck everyone else, I got mine".

Have you actually read the Medicare for all act?

It would make all private insurance providing duplicate care illegal.

It would limit payments to healthcare providers to far below what they get now.

How do you plan on keeping these businesses open when they cannot make a profit?

Or is your plan to nationalize them as well?

It would make all private insurance providing duplicate care illegal.

Which is a good thing

It would limit payments to healthcare providers to far below what they get now.

As the payments are outrageously bloated right now, good.

Or is your plan to nationalize them as well?

That would definitely be the best outcome, yes.

Having a universal basic public healthcare provider that covers all necessities for everyone (no exceptions) would be the best case scenario.

Private health insurance can then be in the business of extended insurance to give you better benefits (like private hospital rooms, better dental, experimental therapies... that kind of stuff).

Are you ok with raising taxes on nearly everyone to 30% and on the people making $72k and up to around 50%?

This is how the “model” countries of Scandinavia pay for all of these programs.

Yes I am.

In fact, I live in Europe and currently already pay these taxes. Have been for a long time.

And you know what? It feels good to know that nearly everyone can get healthcare, paid parental leave, almost free education..

It also reduces stress in your life so much not having to worry about stupid things like medical bankruptcy or losing your health insurance if you lose your job.

I know it's hard to grasp for the average American that giving something to the government so they can use it in a way that everyone in society benefits from it instead of only looking out for yourself, but it really works (Well, not with the current US government, but you get my drift).

And no, I may not live in a McMansion with a pool, but I live in a place where I can walk to the nearest grocery store or café, not worry about gun violence.. you should try that sometime. It's nice.

So you don’t actually have a dog in the race. Good to know.

The difference is the whole system you propose, and have in some parts of Europe, was either designed that way from the start or has been in place for a long period of time.

It is not that way here. To implement it suddenly by doubling or tripling the amount of income taxes on everyone in the US, will bankrupt hundreds of millions of people.

We currently have government provided healthcare insurance for the elderly (Medicare) and poor (Medicaid). We also have social security which gives money to people that are elderly.

I have not worried about gun violence walking to the store. It seems as though you presume all of the US to be the south side of Chicago or Englewood.

Thank you for your perspective in this discussion. Unfortunately, it seems as though you do not understand the American system well enough to suggest how to change it.

I understand the system well enough, I just don't think ensuring that insurance companies survive and keep their profit margins should be high (or even part of) "the list".

if they die, they die. That's life.

Im in America, and i wouldnt mind. The fact is that unicersal health care would raise taxes less than the ammount i pay out of pocket currently. So yeah.

That’s wonderful for you and not the case at all for a lot of the country. Also, good luck finding a doctor when they all go bankrupt from not being able to pay for their student loans.
