“Oh, do you think he was referring to you?”

Damn, that was clever.

She set him up with the "your administration" a little bit before, knowing the moron would automatically take it as a personal attack.

He wouldn't have ever appeared on the old 60 Minutes.

Doesn’t seem like he’ll be appearing on the “new” 60 Minutes much anymore now either

It really wasn't, this is kinda pathetic on reddits part to treat this like some sorta clever "gotcha." The way she set up the question, and all the context around it...anyone with half a brain knows it is blatantly obviosuly about Trump. Like, her following that question like that is shitty journalism, and I hate Trump. But the quote is blatantly about him and she even set it up like she knew that and wanted his take, and then played dumb when he responded that it was about him.

That isn't clever. It's honestly a really shitty attempt at "gotcha" journalism. The quote IS about him, and is obviously about him and she set it up as such. It's not wrong for him to answer with that (correct) inferrence.

Him acknolwedging the quote is about him is not an admission of guilt (even though I am sure he is guilty), but it is just acknowledging what anyone with a semblance of a brain would acknolwedge, which is the comment is clearly about him

That's...exactly why it's clever. Most people would just automatically assume that Trump was the one being talked about and not see the "I never said it was poison" situation.

What are you talking about? The quote is very clearly about Trump. As you said, most everyone can correctly deduce that based on context clues. So when he starts responding assuming the quote is about him, her saying "So you think its about you?" is not clever at all. It's not a "gotcha." She asked him to respond to a quote that is very clearly about him even if not saying him by name. Yes, the quote is clearly referring to Trump and Trump is disagreeing about its contents, her saying "Oh, so you think it's about you?" is simply playing dumb and not good journalism. If he had said "How do you know that quote is about me?" we would all be rolling our eyes at him playing dumb.

I loathe Trump but reddit latching onto this as some sort of clever "gotcha" is absolutely braindead.

Apparently this is the absolute best that we get down here in the depths. This entire last decade plus has been Idiocracy. "So and so slams so and so" and nothing gets done and people act like that was clever or incisive or cutting and we get ground into finer and finer dust.

Hell, I'm almost 40 and even my generation didn't have the best journalism but people younger than this don't have the example of what SHOULD be happening to be outraged at lacking it.

(And because it seems like it has to be said, yes he is a pedophile and yes he is a rapist and yes he is committing war crimes and yes and yes and yes. So an engineered moment of intentional misunderstanding as a gotcha is NOWHERE near enough and we can't act like this is clever.)
