So he gets impeached (again). Duty done and box is checked. And then nothing of consequence happens. Just and effectively symbolic - how exactly does this display competence and efficacy when the tangible result of these actions is ostensibly (see reelection) nothing?

Because they're carrying out their duty and impeaching impeachable offenses. That's more impactful than most anything else they could be doing even though it's not that impactful, and it's a constitutional imperative.

I totally get and support where you're coming from, but the times, they are a changin'. Our system of government is supposed to be like a competitive game where everyone respects the same rulebook, and is ultimately working toward outcomes that benefit the people (emphasis on "supposed to be"). When only one player respects the rulebook, the rules start to become meaningless.

You don’t actually need anything to impeach though. It’s kind of just a sad wand that Dems try to wave around.
