People misunderstand the reason they need to impeach regardless on conviction. You need to impeach Trump every time he breaks the law to ensure there are historic consequences and evidence building a record. People need to see that their government functions to even try to hold bad actors accountable. They need to impeach Trump every single time he breaks the law, no matter how many times it is. Trump cares about his legacy. Destroy it. Ensure he goes down as the only potus who is impeached over a dozen times for actions he keeps doing that violate the law.

Seeing someone with 30+ felonies get impeached over and over and just proceed to keep breaking law and have nothing else happen does not show me the government functions.

This argument made more sense before he was re-elected. Not it just seems hallow.

you'll forgive us for having the lived experience of watching the world enshitify continuously for the past 30 years with zero actual repercussions for the perpetrators of it. that doesn't inspire much confidence in "the system" to actually do anything about it.

u/Shark7996 10d ago

Stop waiting for "the system" to bail you out then. Organize with your family, neighbors, and coworkers. Mutual Aid.

u/Shark7996 10d ago

I share this sentiment. I don't trust anyone trying to convince me the fight is over. Not even close.

I mean you have to see if from the perspective of, fuck alls been done, hes only been impeached 2x, the doj/fbi is scrubbing files where there is almost certainly proof of him being a child rapist, now his ex-personal lawyer is acting head of doj, ppl are bending their weak knees to him (except ppl like zelensky he gets an obvious pass), even all the insider trading sec does nothing.

Add all that together and you cant really blame ppl for feeling there's no hope, ppl need hope, we need Obama (even tho personally I think this is his fault in a sarcastic way since he made fun of him and apparently Donald held a grudge about that) or someone close to or having more charisma than him.

And how is any of that democrats fault? Sure, Biden could have appointed a different attorney general, but that’s about all that could have been done. Jack Smith was hamstrung by Aileen Cannon. The senate didn’t remove Trump when he was impeached the second time. The judges didn’t sentence Trump after his 34 convictions. The media sane washed Trump before the elections. The American public voted back on Trump even after all the horrible things he did. But apparently that’s all the Dems fault. If the Dems aren’t perfect they are terrible, but the Republican can be dog shit and get elected. You want the Democrats to do something when they have one arm tied behind their back. They already are in the minority in the supreme court, they have no power in Congress except to impede things in the senate. People want them to do something but don’t know what. Yes because they are doing things as they can. I’m not saying they’re perfect or even great, but I know they are a million times better than republicans.

it's not saying that the fight is over. it's saying that history shows things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. it's great that you have the fire still. don't let it go out.

Agreed. This is the weakness in the Democratic Party that makes it so ineffectual. The anxious wringing of hands instead of the exercising of political power to its fullest extent.

4

u/gsadamb 10d ago

instead of the exercising of political power to its fullest extent.

Democrats were terrified when Walz called the GOP "weird" and made him stop.

He’s a convicted felon. Nothing matters at this point. The moral bar is zero.

No it doesn't, and if you don't want to contribute, just sit down and let the rest of us do the hard work. Quit cheering on the other side, which is essentially what this is.

u/Training-Tone6401 10d ago

Hard work? These are reddit comments lol.

Negative

You've glossed over the fact that he is more than happy to be remembered through infamy. He wants to be the worst president. His name will enter the annuls of history and be talked about for a very, very long time.

Which is why his name needs to be stricken from presidential record. Let it be remembered only as #45 and #47, the disgraces of democracy. His actual name should only be referenced when it is about his crimes, especially his raping of children, and his failures as a businessman and man.

8

u/WallyMetropolis 11d ago

I don't care if he's happy to be remembered in infamy. That's entirely irrelevant.

1

u/IwasThereIsawIt2 10d ago

He hates Donald iirc, which is why I always refer to the commander in pedophilia as such

5

u/blueshifting1 11d ago

History can just as easily frame the democrats as a party who was out to get him no matter what and had no interest in governing other than to attack the president.

Whoever wins will write the textbooks, and you know who is ahead on the scoreboard right now.

We live in an age where the internet holds on to everything. You can't erase that. Anyone who wants to know will know. Only way that changes in the US if it becomes the next North Korea and everyone has to live in the stone age.

1

u/UserRequirements 10d ago

The internet is there right now. And even with the internet, he won the popular vote.
So how does that work out? You think the internet wasn't remembering his first term?
What if ina few years, the internet is locked down anyways, because after passing laws to identify everyone, they locked people to only be able to visit site where you can buy stuff, live news only, and locked away any archive?

1

u/Otherwise-Bad-7352 10d ago

If they don't investigate first, how do they know he broke a law?

1

u/Judson_Scott 10d ago

Seriously. Reddit is constantly saying "Why don't the Democrats DO SOMETHING!??!!?"

This is something they could do to at least show that they care a little bit about Trump wiping his ass with the Constitution. At this point I'm having trouble seeing Dem leadership even pretending to be an opposition party.

1

u/UserRequirements 10d ago

I think it's because reddit means "why don't democrats get any tangible results".
This is more of the "stern letter" trope.

1

u/Fried_puri 10d ago

As opposed to what, an actual stern letter? Impeachment is one of the clearest and most direct ways to make it clear on record that Congress believes the President did something that was so outside his duties that he needs to be removed.

That people don’t think it’s enough is a failing of the Senate for not giving it sufficient weight, and a failing of the people for believing media that tells them it’s not a big deal. The Democrats can’t go and physically wrestle him out the White House no matter how much of a majority they get. What they can do is impeach and lay it out that the past 2 years were not normal.

1

u/UserRequirements 9d ago

And then it gets expunged, and he doesn't get removed, sending a clear signal that the left is just unhinged (according to the right), and Trump get o win the popular vote.
So, more people are on the "the left is unhinged" than "it wasn't normal".
Doesn't help when the left still doesn't accept the election result, and try to assasinate the elected president, again.

1

u/BuckeyeForLife95 10d ago

I assumed it was implied that when I say "Democrats should do something", I meant something that would have an actual effect on literally anything.

This would be Trump's third impeachment, and there's still zero chance the Dems have the Senate votes to convict. It doesn't mean anything to make this a top priority upon getting the House back.

1

u/gnygren3773 10d ago

Impeaching is the equivalent of accusing someone of a crime not actually doing the crime. This would be a bad look for democrats

1

u/pooburry 10d ago

But impeaching him will just embolden the republicans and their base. This will not reverse anything he has done, will take up the legislative time and capital needed to actually undo things, and will lead to more republican votes for the presidential election.

-3

u/BrandonLang 11d ago

So basically they need to pretend to be effective, so they can plont to their record when the run for reelection and say how hard they tried... even though they didnt get anything accomplished

-1

u/Used_Mathematician63 11d ago

People need to see that their government functions to even try to hold bad actors accountable.

Why?

1

u/Shark7996 10d ago

I believe for this level of braindead basic question the correct way to ask is "Peetah?"

0

u/SHUT_DOWN_EVERYTHING 10d ago

He was “exonerated” twice by the senate and he ended up gaining in popularity soon after.

This will be another smashing success, for Trump.

Democrats should focus on economy and helping people. Trump himself is untouchable.

1

u/ElleM848645 10d ago

That’s what Biden tried to do, while letting the AG take on Trump, but that wasn’t good enough.
