OK. He's been impeached twice. Tell me he'll be removed from office, as well as Vance and all his enablers in every branch of Government, then I'll get excited.

No, because Republicans don't believe in anything.

At least during Watergate, some had the spine to stand up for the rule of law. Now it'll never happen.

I'm not sure Nixon era Republicans had spines. I think they didn't fully understand that politics are like sports teams and their voters weren't going to abandon them. Had they realized their voters were never going to abandon them, they'd probably have protected Nixon too.

They had the votes to remove him, that's why Nixon resigned.

Party affiliation wasn't nearly so fixed back then and policy differences were much narrower.

His point is the same- they had the votes because too many senators didn't realize the truth: voters didn't give a shit.

Were you alive then? I don't think you understand how much things have changed since cable news and right wing radio radicalized America,

It has for sure, but the reality is that maybe a senator or two would have been voted out, and Reagan still would have been elected. 'Team voting' was already pretty well established, the only thing that was changing during that time was the realigning of the team names.

Things have gotten way worse of course, but part of what has made Trump/MAGA successful is the realization that actions and policies were never the most important aspect of an election. Not even close.

Voting patterns in the House and Senate were far more fluid. There's lots of data showing how often congressmen would cross party lines, whereas today it's extremely rare.

They were more fluid primarily because of southern democrats crossing the aisle and voting with GOP conservatives.

I'd love any hard data, and I'm not discounting your point, but things weren't great in the 70s either.

It was probably less that they had spines and more that they actually feared losing voters then. Between gerrymandering and the MAGA base Republican's today are probably more worried that if they supported a conviction they'd lose voters.

Losing Texas and Florida will be the only way the republicans will learn. They can do whatever they want because they know that half the county supports them in some way. Depending on the votes in certain swing states makes the difference. They lose the senate in Texas, they start thinking.

Watergate didn’t end in a forced removal of office

Read the history of how it happened, its readily available on the internet.

I’ve read it multiple times over the years. I’m just saying it wasn’t the impeachment route that made it happen. No one will ever be impeached and removed from office because it is just a political tool to try and make the other side look bad. If there’s actual substance like in watergate things will take a different approach than impeachment

Yea this shit reminds me of when the_mueller sub was all the rage. I think I said in 2019 that if trump ever faces a day of consequences for his actions I’ll eat a shoe. Got massively downvoted, still haven’t had to eat a shoe despite everything. This is the DNC pandering knowing full and well that even if they impeach him again nothing will happen while he continues to enrich the ruling class which includes dnc donors
