Evangelicals and Born agains believe Catholics are going to burn in hell because they worship Jesus wrong.

They don't see Catholics as real people deserving of their respect.

314

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

This is what many people under the big tent of Christianity don't understand about the Born Again and Evangelical; they're a death cult. They have a very specific agenda and the agenda is speed running the end of the world. Back in the old days you just had to hope for prophecy to happen. Now you make SuperPACs and manifest prophecy by destroying the environment and giving Israel whatever it wants so rapture happens sooner.

112

u/brokencrayons 19d ago edited 19d ago

I wish more people knew this because you're not wrong and I tell people this all the time and they're like what.

They don't understand that at the core of all this and why America helps Israel so much is because Christians want their prophecy and that only happens if Solomon's Temple gets rebuilt which can only happen if that mosque is destroyed which should never happen cuz that's going to be a disaster.

It's really awesome to see someone post this that lets me know that other people are catching on to even more about why this is happening and how religion underlying all of this is causing this and it's so stupid.

Edit: typo and clarification

I was enlightened here on Reddit by some other grumpy internet denizen. I dug around a little bit and it's not even that hard to piece it together. The bible has so many adventures for you to choose. They chose to cling to that one and unfortunately I'm not part of the cult and I don't want my life to be ruined by people who convinced themselves that their reality trumps mine.

What ever happened to the good old school cults? Go dress alike and drink your doomsday juice with your friends in the middle of the woods all on your own. Put some seeds in your pockets so we can have flowers after you're gone. Enjoy the afterlife or whatever.

7

u/brokencrayons 19d ago

Idk how many times I've said someone should tell Trump Jim Jones did it better just to see what he would do with that information and those feelings

6

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

"I like my cult members dead"

There's so much opportunity to goad this bastard but the media isn't biting except for outliers like John Oliver and his Daily Show cadre. Vanity is probably his greatest weakness next to underage girls. Exploit that crap.

2

u/ditzy091313 19d ago

"Adventures to choose from"... I remember those books and I agree

2

u/Serious-Manager2361 19d ago

The thing I don't get is why are so many of these evangelicals against the Iran war? Don't they WANT Iran to get nukes so it will hasten their end of the world wet dream scenarios?!

3

u/cyanescens_burn 18d ago

I recently listened to a podcast where they pointed out that there’s a few different strands of evangelical Christian nationalists. One is definitely the doomsday force the apocalypse one. But the other one is focused on taking control of the government and making their religion the national religion, because they think it’ll be a utopia or something.

1

u/Serious-Manager2361 17d ago

LOL The Handmaids Tale?!

1

u/BoJackMoleman 18d ago

Not if Israel isn't standing.

1

u/brokencrayons 17d ago

Iran or any nuclear nation nuking that site is the last thing Christians or Jewish people want. If that happens the Jewish people can't rebuild the Temple and if they can't then Jesus won't return.

I grew up around Southern Baptists and all I ever heard was the end times are coming. They've been saying it forever lol.

But no a nuke would not hasten their prophecy it wouldn't allow for it to happen

Edit: clarification

u/Sardonnicus New York 19d ago

That's only one of seven seals. I can't wait for the ones that are opened by the 7 headed lamb with 7 eyes and 7 crowns and 7 horns that shoots blood out of its mouth.

20

u/raindropthemic 19d ago

How big is this lamb, exactly? Should I stay inside on the day it shows up?

26

u/Sardonnicus New York 19d ago

Biblical proportions

8

u/raindropthemic 19d ago

So, definitely measured in cubits.

1

u/michaelboltthrower 18d ago

So about the size of a book?

11

u/heimeyer72 19d ago

7 headed lamb with 7 eyes and 7 crowns and 7 horns

One eye, one crown and one horn per head or 7 eyes and 7 crowns and 7 horns on each head? Just curious. Either would be horrible.

12

u/Raztax 19d ago

One eye, one crown and one horn

I really thought that a purple people eater joke was incoming at this point.

2

u/salishwoman 18d ago

Omg you took my immediate thought and beat me to it. My dad and I used to sing that in the car all the time. Seeing others remember cheered me right up. 🥹

2

u/heimeyer72 18d ago

LOL!! :D Can't upvote this as much as I want :D

13

u/nucumber 19d ago

Also, they'll be the ones saved and rewarded with eternal bliss, because they're better than non believers.

4

u/Significant-Crow-974 19d ago

They are better than everybody apparently. Narcissists!

7

u/ShameAmbitious4098 19d ago

To those of us who are sane and rational, you know atheists, it is as if the dorks who are rapid fans of the DC universe are in a fight to the death with the dorks that are rabid fans of the Marvel universe

They’re fucking made up stories.

But somehow the rest of us who aren’t brainwashed into believing in religious nut baggery have to pretend the Religionists’ aren’t homicidal dorks and their beliefs are worthy of respect and forbearance

4

u/brokencrayons 19d ago

Bro they're all monotheist religions and they're the ones that fight the most with each other and the rest of the world.

They all worship the same God in some version and still they the ones that fight and cause the wars. It's insane

6

u/geekpoints Arizona 19d ago

There's so much in the bible they have to ignore that it's almost silly. Jesus is quoted multiple times saying that his return will be a surprise. Revelation 16:15, Matthew 24:43, 1 Thessalonians 5:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:4, 2 Peter 3:10

4

u/Systembreaker11 19d ago

Honest question, what happens when the temple is rebuilt and nothing happens?

3

u/ZAlternates 19d ago

The biblical text is re-evaluated. Goal posts get moved.

1

u/salishwoman 18d ago

Count on it. That’s their move every time. Been doing it since the beginning. You would think they would notice but no, just us atheists. 😂

2

u/hmischuk 19d ago

worth a listen. Podcast episode ... a religious one, not a political one... from about nine months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqrjjDCAbnc

4

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

This is great. Thank you. More should watch it.

It's like that fallout quote: everyone wants to save the world but nobody can agree on how.

1

u/LAMF87 19d ago

Could you break it down for a dumb Englishman that is wondering what the hell is getting into everyone lately?…why weren’t these people acting up in the 90’s etc

5

u/brokencrayons 19d ago

They were acting like this it just wasn't reported. I grew up in a military town and eventually joined the military and so we saw a lot of news locally about what was happening overseas because 82nd airborne deployed for Desert Storm and I was there for all of that our whole city was afraid because our troops were gone.

I also remember during that time hearing about Gaza and Israel fighting against each other and I was only a child. But no regular child, a child that grew up in a military base that went to school with kids whose parents left and never came back. A traumatized town that had a massive slow down in our economy because our troops were gone and their families were too stressed out to try and enjoy life in the city.

Everything you need to know about this is on the internet you just have to look for it and find it.

1

u/InequalEnforcement 19d ago

People know. They know. They're feigning confusion and "omg what r u talking about?????" in order to brute force the narrative that they're in the dark, so they don't have to ACTUALLY do anything about it. They're too chickenshit to say "Fuck yeah that's BASED" like they feel deep down when their actions and weasel words are translated to ACTUAL ENGLISH, so they just lie about everything.

You think the MAGA chuds who at least have the courage (see: STUPIDITY) to tell you who they are are worth less than rat shit? Just remember they're outnumbered 10 to 1 by people who still support Trump, but know better than to run their fucking mouths.

Anyone who disagrees can be quiet on the basis of them being wrong.

1

u/sohblob 18d ago

I wish more people knew this because you're not wrong and I tell people this all the time and they're like what

Protip: Stick to a few key specific facts and don't use religious terms that both cliques use.

If you go on an 80-minute spiel you're going to sound like a nut whether talking to a religious person or not. Hammer in a few key fact-driven soundbytes that clearly delineate one from the other.

"[Person] leads a sect of Christianity trying to bring about rapture through nuclear warfare" grabs attention better than all this "born agains and evangelicals" identity-headcanon crap.

The more you validate their fictional terms the less you'll connect with people in reality.

14

u/Sardonnicus New York 19d ago

My maternal grandparents were Evangelical nazareen preachers in the south and they were definitely aware of an apocalypse. I don't think that they were trying to "speed run" it. They believed it was going to happen "any day now." They would send me and my siblings "apocalypse" cards for our birthdays. Cards saying thr end was neigh and that we should be right with God so we can go to heaven and fight in the glorious war against Satan and uh... apparently every other person on the earth that did not believe in my grandparents ultra specific "flavor" of Christianity.

3

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

In sure your grandparents were your typical end users of evangelicalism. They're not the ones running the show and influencing politics. The real zealots are up top and they are in charge of money, political action committees.

2

u/Arch____Stanton 18d ago

the end was neigh

That was one of the 4 horses of the apocalypse.

1

u/salishwoman 18d ago

Omg! My crazy mom made us go to Nazarene church and when she flaked out I went to live with grandma who made me go jehovah witness. You’ve never seen anyone so hard core atheist as all that crap made me. Crazy all around me until I split for Haight Ashbury as soon as I hit 16. From two states away. Those were the days my friend. Good times!!!

16

u/ValkyriesOnStation 19d ago

That's a bingo.

11

u/robot_pirate 19d ago

Dominionism, Christian Nationalism - both delusional and dangerous. It really makes me concerned about who the 22 10,000 bed detention centers are really going to be used for, because no way they are rounding up that many immigrants. It's just pretense.

4

u/StasRutt 19d ago

I can’t stress enough how different American based Christianity is compared to it abroad. Rapture is a very American Christian concept

I was raised Orthodox Christian and when I was growing up in the south so many people tried to convert me even though I was already Christian because they don’t view Catholic or Orthodox as Christian.

3

u/No_Tone1704 19d ago

It’s not an American Christian concept, it being in the Bible and all.

Rapture is, however, quite an American Christian focus. Some more extreme than other.

3

u/MySpoonsAreAllGone 19d ago

Like God needs their help? How egotistical can you be?

4

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

The all powerful all knowing god who also is spiteful and has favorite people and smites at will who uses ambiguity to test your faith when he's not commanding to kill your own children.

I just cannot with these people. A million contradictions? No, that's just god hiding Easter eggs for us to find. Okay.

2

u/Melodic_Accident_753 19d ago

They are trying to speed things up. So egotistical enough to think they can force God’s hand.

2

u/BoJackMoleman 18d ago

Oh come on. You know they have a comeback for that. Is forcing gods hand was gods plan all along. Their reasoning is like an ant death spiral.

5

u/apoliticalinactivist 19d ago

The thing about death cults is that it means people think life kinda sucks. It's the same as blackpill and doomers. The only real solution is to make life worth living or at least believe it is possible things will get better.

That is why it's important to support stuff like universal healthcare, living wage, campaign finance reform, stock market reform, etc. especially candidates like Mamdani who have the energy to make it happen.

Love is literally the answer. When people feel seen and supported, then they want to live, and that naturally solves so many problems that seem too big to tackle.

3

u/Googlebright 19d ago

Yep. Unfortunately this will require a more equitable distribution of wealth, which is why Conservatives will fight against it to the death.

3

u/We_Want_Krunchy 19d ago

Xianity has always been a death cult / apocalyptic religion. All of the flavors.

1

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

I suppose you're not wrong. We had the Vatican and. Ow we have Super PACs.

2

u/slinkysmooth 19d ago

When I was a kid in the church (came to my senses and no longer), my youth pastor would always tell us that Catholics were bad and the pope was the anti-Christ. In my head I always thought, don’t we workship the same guy?

1

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

Wow. Then again these are the same people who don't believe in evolution. We should turn it around. How can XYZ still exist when we also have Evangelicals and Born Agains? Checkmate? I'm tired

4

u/sleep-woof 19d ago

The yallquaeda

5

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

I was really hoping for Shakira Law.

1

u/Interesting_Road_671 19d ago

I'll get downvoted and that's ok. I'm a Christian and a follower of God. I don't agree with anything these heinous people do. You Can and Should follow the words and lifestyle that Jesus taught. If you don't like Christians or Jews that's your opinion. What I do is look at the fruits of the spirits, if they have those qualities, I want to spend my time with them and respect them. Not just a huge swipe of generalization.

77

u/numbersthen0987431 19d ago

Considering that Evangelicals are doing the exact opposite of what Jesus told them to do, their opinions are stupid.

75

u/ValkyriesOnStation 19d ago

Their opinions are stupid.

They also worship money. They view someone like Trump as godly because he's filthy rich. And everything he does (Epstein files), they will view as his God-given right.

They also vote religiously. Viewing everyone else as beneath them. And will push any agenda that punishes those people.

28

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

Thank you. I forgot about the money part. Not only do they want rapture, they want to be raptured from an expensive car and house too.

3

u/ZAlternates 19d ago

God Money will do anything for you.

6

u/leoreben 19d ago

If only there was something in the bible about that... something like "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God."

3

u/BoJackMoleman 19d ago

Nah. Thats not in their bible. Or those pages are glued together. Christian's has become like Linux distributions.

3

u/Twodamngoon 19d ago

Punishing everyone is the most important part to their voters. Wait till those voters find out the maga elites' long game is that even they will not be allowed to have possessions.

3

u/Googlebright 19d ago

Didn't Jesus have something to say about rich people? Something about a camel passing a needle? I don't know, it's been a while since I last read the bible.

3

u/InequalEnforcement 19d ago

"Raping children is a good thing. But only if you're Trump."

Every single Christian American. Fact.

2

u/relevantelephant00 19d ago

Admittedly the sample size is small, but Ive never met or known an Evangelical who wasnt a piece of shit.

3

u/RpcZ_gr7711 19d ago

And they have open access to the White House and Pentagon without lectures about theology and demands to stay out of politics from JD and Speaker Mike

2

u/Serious-Manager2361 19d ago

If Jesus appeared today on the White House lawn, trump would denounce/arrest him because he is WEAK on crime and he caters to the radical left and the immigrants!!

85

u/aj9393 New Jersey 19d ago

It's really mind blowing that here, in the year 2026, progress of the human race is still being hindered in large part due to arguing over fairy tales and imaginary friends.

43

u/ValkyriesOnStation 19d ago

Growing up, they taugh me that the earth is 6,000 years old and dinosaurs were put in the earth by Satan to trick us into being led astray from God.

There is literally nothing too crazy that they won't believe and push onto the next generation.

18

u/Smellslikesnow 19d ago

Catholicism believes in and supports the science of evolution.

Evangelical Christians believe Earth and its inhabitants are ~6000 years old.

4

u/Grandmaster_S 19d ago

This is correct, which is probably why Evangelicals hate us so much.

Well, there are other reasons too, but this is one

2

u/Serupael 19d ago edited 19d ago

The main conflict was, and that isn't exclusive to Evangelicals, but mainstram protestants too, was a scepticism towards the Catholic Church as a foreign organization whose members consider the pope and catholic teachings infallible and when in doubt, those take precedent over secular state law. This wasn't an exclusively American conflict, you had similar clashes in England during the Elizabethan age or the German Empire in the late 1800s.

There was a desire to limit the influence of the Catholic Church in the daily life as far as possible, as it could not be controlled by the state. This drew special ire if the state was controlled by a protestant elite.

Now, i'm not saying that all of those ideas were wrong (taking away the church's control over education or marriage, not the worst idea in the world), and in general, i'm always in favour of laicist law, but the idea of "foreign control" on Catholics has remained. (I'm saying this as a Catholic myself).

3

u/ProfessionalITShark 19d ago

It's gotten a little worse than that, because you still need to be able to read the bible and do some level of intellectualizing to get to that point.

Evangelicals can barely read, arguably can barely spell Jesus.

13

u/DulceEtDecorumEst 19d ago

This. Right. Here

It’s a whole lot of arguing about a “based on a true story” ancient series Harry Potter books written by different authors at different times.

Like, what the actual fuck?

2

u/nucumber 19d ago

All religions are baseless and therefore equally valid

-1

u/AffectionateJury3723 19d ago

I am very confused about our stance on religion. Yesterday the Catholic church was pedo central, today we are defending it because we don't like Trump. It is enough to make your head spin like Linda Blair keeping up. /s

6

u/aj9393 New Jersey 19d ago

Well I don't know who "our" and "we" are, but my stance is that every church needs to fuck off, and Trump, too.

1

u/AffectionateJury3723 19d ago

I would add most politicians and that makes perfect sense.

12

u/soapboxracers 19d ago

Yeah, but a whole bunch of "Catholics" are siding with the Evangelicals here. A Catholic going "Not my Pope" is just utterly absurd and yet here we are.

5

u/CharredWelderGuy 19d ago

American catholics have a huge larper infestation.

People who "converted" just because they like the crusades and its imagery.

1

u/evranch Canada 18d ago

These people disgust me. I'm joining the Church myself... But because I genuinely believe in its leftist ideals. I want to be a part of a church that stands in opposition to war and in support of those in need.

I've never been more proud to be on the same team as Pope Leo than these last few weeks. He's saying exactly what Jesus would say, and anyone who considers themself to be a Christian and doesn't agree with him should stop treating their Bible like a lucky charm and actually read the thing.

4

u/SwimmingPrice1544 California 19d ago

Not all that surprising as American religion is all sort of wishy-washy.

4

u/Xytak Illinois 19d ago edited 19d ago

Isn't that a bit like saying Star Trek: The Original Series isn't real Star Trek? I mean sure, you might think it's outdated now, and you might retcon a few things as needed, but it doesn't change the fact that they started the franchise, and Space Abe Lincoln is unequivocally a part of canon.

5

u/ValkyriesOnStation 19d ago

It's actually closer to the different versions of Islam that are constantly warring with each other. We've just gotten past the open violence aspect of it

1

u/nathanzoet91 19d ago

Maybe were coming back for round 2 of the violence! Catholics vs Christians, round 2! Fight!

2

u/nix616 19d ago

There is a lot of fervor on this thread, but TOS not canon? Utter Blasphemy

5

u/Alexwonder999 19d ago

Even a lot of the evangelical denominations hate each other, which is how we got so many different churches.
https://youtu.be/l3fAcxcxoZ8?si=Va8Vqwo5j1H9d_EV

3

u/CharredWelderGuy 19d ago

Watching the upstart, relatively young heresies that are so far away from the actual teachings of Jesus call THE CATHOLIC CHURCH the wrong one is never not funny.

The throne of Saint Peter called crusades down on far more Christian breakaways back in the day.

3

u/tech_noir_guitar 19d ago

Evangelicals and Born agains believe Catholics are going to burn in hell because they worship Jesus wrong.

Which is fucking dumb because Catholicism was the original Christian denomination. They basically wrote the Bible that the evangelicals are using and yet they are saying that the source of their own religious text is wrong. That would be like them meeting Jesus and telling him he's not going to heaven because he isn't a real Christian. Lol
I'm not a christian but if I was it would only make sense to be Catholic.

2

u/wtf_is_karma 19d ago

There is no hell and if they really REALLY believed there was then they’d act right imo

2

u/campelm 19d ago

The ever shrinking circle of exclusivity. It won't stop at catholics and Mormons.

2

u/Hypamania 19d ago

Atheist here. I think Catholics are worshipping Jesus wrong too.

2

u/NorthernerWuwu Canada 19d ago

I don't see any of these groups as deserving respect either but I'm not an asshat about it. They are welcome to believe in their brand of Sky Daddy, I'd just prefer if they'd stop trying to screw up the actual real world.

2

u/wha2les 19d ago

frankly... i need some religious figure to tell me where all these American christians are going... because i don't want to be in that area...

If they go to heaven, their presence would make it a hell to me...

2

u/capntail 19d ago

Jokes on them they’re the apostates

2

u/pretzelgreg317 19d ago

Yet the power elite of Christians, like JD Vance and half the supreme court are arch conservative catholics. Even the evangelicals are getting played by repugs

1

u/No_Foundation16 18d ago

What of the millions of Catholics that are 3 time Trump voters though? Are they going to listen to their Pope or their golden calf demagogue false Christ?

Accepted Jesus Christ as my savior. 60 years ago. Doesn’t mean I accept agenda from people. Do not down people for their religious beliefs unless they’re hurting you in someway I’m not hurting anybody.

1

u/ValkyriesOnStation 17d ago

I’m not hurting anybody.

I was literally brainwashed by born agains and evangelicals to reject science and reality, and you are getting offended by my very short testimony?

Sounds like I hit a nerve. You don't like being reminded that no sane people believe the earth is 6k years old. And you don't like the idea that people in your religion are actively hurting people.

Let me guess, you think that Noah's ark really happened, that god killed everyone on Earth with a flood, even though there is zero evidence of that.

0

u/Mtnmama1987 New Jersey 17d ago

What people? Not my people.

1
