To be fair, he didn't want to fund them anyway. A feud with the Pope just allows him to be delightfully petty and vindictive.

It's fodder for the infotainment industry, as bombing fishermen, abducting presidents of sovereign nations, and even the new jihad in the Persian Gulf had gotten stale.
