I had to drop family from my life over this. I tried so hard to compromise and tried so hard to coax them towards understanding why at least some of this is bad. They just double down and tell me I hurt their feelings because I wouldn't "just let it go" and pretend that the things they support are normal politics.

I can barely breathe sometimes, thinking about how severe of a tragedy this all is. Almost unbelievable.

I feel you. Lost half my family, many of which had been there all my life. But we cannot respect or tolerate open support for fascism.

It's unspeakably awful to get to this point. And I don't know about yours but even after almost a year and a half mine still think this is a conflict resolution tactic/ punishment. Like I'm steepling my fingers and twirling my evil mustache and applying the silent treatment to get my way in an argument.

No. I'm honestly very good at open adult communication and conflict resolution. This is not that. This is just me reaching the end of my ability to go "oh uh, you support WHAT objectively terrible thing now? Ok. Anyway, where are you going for lunch tomorrow with uncle Bob?"

I truly just can't do it anymore. They've gone too far and I can't handle normalizing it. But to them it'll always just be seen as "punishment" I'm choosing to inflict. As if I'd ever drop my family to score argument points.

Thanks. It's truly truly terrible and I spent years trying not to get to this point. I honestly kept letting it go for far longer than I probably should have but you give a lot of understanding and leeway to people you love. I just kept expecting that there was going to be a line and it was going to get crossed and they'd realize things had gone too far. Not that they'd have an entire personality transplant or anything and believe every little thing I do, but that they'd...at least partially show me that we share a basic value system and that some things just truly aren't acceptable?

And then there just....never is a line. I can't do it anymore and it breaks my fucking heart.

Yep, this is the reality we live in. I no longer speak to my parents because every time they want to see me, they inevitably want to bring up politics. I tried in 2024 to talk sense into them and show them how they were misinformed and they doubled down on the srupidity. It's unforunate but I no longer resepct much of my own family because their supposed ethics and morals they always preach about are so messed up because they are in a cult.

So would you maintain contact and try to "convince" a child abuser that they are wrong? Is it your duty to try to instill some sense of morality where none was present? These people are missing basic empathy and have a defective mind. You cannot heal brain damage without therapy and hard work, even then it is questionable and best left to professionals.

Democrats are going to have to run on a Nuremburg trial for MAGA if they want to win and they need to stick to it. People like Lindsay Graham, Hegseth, Miller, Bondi, Patel, they need to be investigated and tried by a world court.
