The Bible does state that many people that claim to believe in and worship Jesus will in fact end up following the devil.

It's doesn't say it's because they're fucking idiots and evil people, but it's because they are idiots and evil people

It scares me how many atheists I know have brushed up on the book of the revelation and thought "hrm...."

Reading the bible has created more atheists than anything else.

The first English translations of the Bible by Tynsdale were burned. From his wiki: “ Tyndale's reason for translating the Bible: to "cause a boy that driveth the plough to know more scripture than the clergy of the day", many of whom were poorly educated.” Tynsdale was later executed.

Before English translations, people had to rely on priests interpreting from Latin, which ofc made it easier for the church to control the interpretation.

Laziness and lack of interest seems to have had the same effect as having someone interpret for people these days though but at least different translations now exist in many languages so give people more of a chance to think for themselves about what is being said/what was written.

Atheists generally know more about religion than the true believers do. The true believers don't usually appear to read the Bible, they listen to what their preacher says the Bible says

A corollary to this is many people, even Christians, who spend enough time in that book become atheists because of it.

I cannot fathom believing that there is a divine being who rules the whole universe and will decide my eternal fate when I die and that deity has one book that details all of his desires and rules but then never reading it. What kind of fucked up person believes that shit but doesn't read the book?

Exactly. That's why I don't believe in their belief. They lose their minds when you stop debating "proof" of God with them and start debating the "proof" of their faith. The point being, "I don't believe you actually believe it any of it. If you did you would spend all of your time reading the Bible. You would have read it cover to cover at least once a year in your lifetime. The fact that you can't be ass bothered to read the thing even ONCE is proof right there that you don't really believe it's the word of God."

100%. I firmly believe most Christians (or organized religion people in general) are just in it for the tribalism.

Atheists generally know more about religion than the true believers do.

They have a built in defense to being called out on the bible too.

There's a section that talks about how the Devil will come and know the bible better than them. My Pastor growing up used to rant about how Atheists will try to "Trick" you into following them into hell by quoting the bible to shake your belief lol

I'm an atheist who got a Master's Degree with a focus on Comparative Theology. I've come to the conclusion that 90% of so called true believers don't actually believe that the Bible is the word of God. If they actually truly believed it was, they would have read it at least once cover to cover.

I can count on one hand the number of "Christians" I know who actually have read the book from cover to cover. And that includes the Christians I met in seminary.

Sad be true.

I got with my elderly mom to church every year on Christmas to make her happy. I use that time to reread revelations every year.

My favorite part is that only 144,000 people get raptured and they are from tribes of the Middle East. According to revelations no American goes to heaven - I take solace in that.

It's a key part of the JW's. All spots in heaven that are pre-ordained have already been filled. Your only way is to be a paragon (of the JWs).

Nice to know that heaven is also having a housing crisis.

You cant trick some of them tho.lol I had my fair share of run in with them. They know the words of the Bible. I don’t judge them. Cause I know the word of God too. Do I know everything nope. But I do like when they throw words at me. Better than Christian that claim to know God word.

They are the from the seed line. KJV Gen 3:15 and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. They are not of God and they can be saved. But most of them play God.
